Romo's performance gave me hope we at least have a competent backup this season. I'm no longer too worried if Bledsoe goes down a few games.

Let's remember, though, the Seahawks weren't exactly gameplanning for Romo this game. I know, I know...we weren't gameplanning for Seattle, either. But I'd be curious if he could go 19-for-25 once teams know his tendencies.

Hopefully we've got a good backup and a candidate for quarterback-of-the-future. The Replace Bledsoe talk is fun, but premature at this point.

I esp. liked that Farve-esque, flick pass to Hurd for the 1st down on that 89-yard TD drive

Making the jump from preseason to full speed isn't an easy one. Romo is looking like he might at least be a good backup. I still suspect thats mostly what this game was about. I also suspect if TO had been healthy Romo would not have gotten the whole game.

I have been a football fan forever. You can say this was only a pre-season game, but Tony Romo has what it takes to be an NFL QB. I bet you my house that The Tuna and JJ are beaming right now. Tony has good feet, good judgement, a quick release and a cocky, I can do it attitude, all the tools you need. He will be the future for Dallas for many years, barring injury. Do I think he will start the season, of course not, its Drew's job, but Tony will be there waiting and will take over soon. He has the Favre moxy and you can tell his teamates believe in him.

I have been talking about Tony for the last two years and have taken quite a forum beating. I will get the last laugh.
I'll take Drew Bledsoe over Romo any day. At least until Bledsoe's casket is lowered into the ground anyway. If Romo gets extended playing time this year he will make Jason Garrett look like a Hall Of Fame canidate.

It might just be me but I would like to see Romo throw a pass that counts before he takes Bledsoe's job.

I am with you.

There are 2 things I am gettting real sick of hearing.

1. Blah Blah Blah it is 1 pre-season game.
2. And gimme a break he is nothing but a career backup based on his pedigree, playing Division II, and going undrafted.

First, Romo has had 8 previous Pre-Season games for many of us to watch.
Second who cares where he came from, I only care where he is going.

I have been high on Romo since last years Pre-Season, and he looked more polished last night.

I also have been watching Football all my life, and I do believe I know a good QB when I see one. I believe in Romo.

I will tell you what I know, I know about Romo.

The kid has great pocket presence.
He slides in the pocket very well.
His arm may not be a rocket but it is strong enough.
He has the ability to make a positive play out of a negative.
He is ACCURATE!
He has very nice touch on the ball.
He has the confidence and the attitude.

The thing he did not have down yet before was being decisive, and last night he was very decisive. I think this is exactly why Parcells thinks he is ready, or very close to being ready.

And my evaluation is not just based on last night. I know what I have been seeing for the last 3 years.

The only thing left IMO if he continuues to be decisive like last night is to see it in a regular season game.

I think ROMO has that it, the "it" a QB needs to succeed.

For you folks who dont see it, it sucks to be you right now, but Romo will make you come around before too much longer.

After watching the game again, I also got to admit that Romo got lucky on a few throws. There were some thrown into coverage that you could either say were about as accurate as they needed to be, or just lucky that the backup defensive backs didnt' sniff it out. Or maybe a bit of both. ;)

Damn maybe he is Favresque ;)

It would be nice if we found a diamond in the rough in Romo...but seriously...

if he would have thrown 7 TD's and 800 yards in one preseason game would only mean its one game and its only preseason...

show me a guy who can do well consistently... that guy is our man... right now its bledsoe

If Romo continues to show consistency and no ad lib Favre type plays (BP hates) the rest of the preseason, then with Romo's pocket presence and mobility plus he has a very quick release may just may be a reason enough for BP to go with him if and only if Bledsoe screws up like that int at Seattle close to our end zone.

As a fan, I'm happy to see Romo do well, too. I'd also like to see Henson play a quarter or two to see how he looks, and would be elated to see him play effectively like Romo vs. Seattle. I hope soon that we can dispense with this "trade for a vet QB" talk, or worse, spend a no. 1 or no. 2 pick in '07 or '08. For now though, Bledsoe's the journeyman, grizzled vet and more things will have to happen for him to be unseated in Dallas.

Even Favre can't pull those types of passes off with regularity. I just hope it was an accident and not a sign of his mentality.

I keep reading how "gunslinger" is somehow an admirable quality.

I don't care for the term because it suggests a touch of recklessness that only the truly talented can get away with. I don't believe Romo falls into that category.

I like Romo...and I was glad he did well, but I am not ready to turn things over to him just yet.

First off...he played against starters for what, a series or two? In preseason game number one. With no game plan against him. Preseason and regular season are day and night. I remember Carter having some good preseason outings...it doesn't necessarily translate to regular season.

I do think that we are getting an "old school" approach with Romo, and even with Henson. You sit, absorb the playbook, take as much from practice as you can, and when it's your time...you are ready to play. Romo looks like he is at that point.

Is this a compliment, or a dig?

It sure seems to me that Romo is a better QB than the Quincy Carter we saw in Parcells' first year.

Thankfully, Bledsoe is too.

Romo should be a better QB than Quincy Carter was that first year. He has been in the offense and learning for four years now...Carter was basically a raw kid in his second season when Parcells came in. He had been injured most of his rookie year, and then comes in to a new offense. All things considered, the Carter of 2003 wasn't that bad.

At this point, I think Romo is showing he is ready to be an NFL QB. If something happens to Bledsoe...I still think we have a chance.

And rag on him as much as some people do, but I haven't completely given up on Henson yet either. He is just a step or two behind Romo.

When I watched Bledsoe play last year, and Henson play during the summer, I noticed that those players have rocket arms, but miss 1 out of ever 5 passes by skipping the ball on the ground or throwing a wide pass or too high or something like that.

Romo's passes were always right at the receiver, and even the bad ones were right on target. Now I'm not crowning him accuracy of the year, but his accuracy is something this Club has not seen since the glory days.

I like the way Romo played. Quick decisions, quick release, no negative plays. (BP's pet peeve is negative plays.) Remember when the Quincy/Hutch debates were going on? BP said he chose Quincy because the oline was so bad his mobility was important. The Oline is still bad. Bledsoe would have probably been sacked several times in the Seattle game.
Like most people, I wouldn't change QBs at this point, but if the Oline doesn't play better as the preseason goes on, I honestly would not be surprised to see BP start Romo instead of Bledsoe. Bledsoe has a stronger, more acurate arm, but does sometimes cause too many negative plays. (i.e. 50 sacks and 17 inteceptions. Granted, not all his fault.)
I'm not saying Romo should replace Bledsoe, I'm just willing to entertain the notion that it is possible. I'm really curious about the QB position for the rest of training camp and preseason.

I agree. Even Favre couldnt/cant get away with it. I dont want a Favre-clone QB. Too much of a chance taker and he decides alot of game by his INT's.

If Romo is Favre-like with better decision making then thats good for us.

I think its pretty clear that Bledsoe starts every gameIbarring injury) regardless of sacks or anything... this is BP and Bledsoe's last hurrah.

Even if BP thought Romo was playing a little better than Bledsoe he would still want DB's experience in there...
