With how much we're running and how successful we've been doing it, Romo has no chance of becoming the MVP. Murray will get it over him, and he can't currently compete with Manning, Luck, or Rivers, whose offenses are still going entirely through them.
That's okay though. I don't need Romo to win an MVP, I need him to win a Super Bowl ring, and he is doing everything that he needs to do in order to obtain that. In a shootout we've seen he can go toe to toe with Manning. This offense still has that capacity, and people have overlooked that, but until our defense starts getting pressure, we're better suited not engaging in shootouts.
Demarcus Lawrence and Okoye could really help get pressure on opposing QBs, if Melton and Crawford continue to improve, and Spencer continues to improve, we could be looking at a very very different defense. That is something the national media is overlooking. They don't care about our 2nd round draft pick, but what they've failed to realize is that we traded our 3rd to get him. A 2+3... means that we had a 1st round grade on this guy. That's a really important reinforcement.
If we can put together a pass rush, we'll be right there with Denver for best team in the league. We might already be. We have a running game that they don't possess. They aren't a balanced offense, and while they might not seem to need to be right now... later in the year that might not be the case.
Denver might be the 49ers for us this generation. They're the only team that I think can compete with us once we fire on all cylinders. If we can beat them this year though (obviously would be in the playoffs) they'll never be able to beat us. We'll be that much better next year.
