To the OP I think if I keep a LB I keep Carter, he is younger, has more upside and looks like he was coming on at the end. I like Durant but with Hitchens you already have versatile LB and keeping McClain MLB and moving Lee to WLB you have little more versatility in case of injury to McClain. My question then is who will return kicks and punts though.

Carter is my favorite player on this team, no secret. But i just think somebody pays him more and he walks. And right now IDK about kicks and punts. As of right now i would say Beasley kicks and Claiborne punts.

First of all good work. But i hope we get Beasly a bit cheaper :)

A bit of a correction. The length of Smiths contract does not matter because every signing bonus (and so the restuctured money) has to be prorated over the actual and the following 4 years. So you cant prorate it over his whole contract (If that was what you were trying to do).

That would mean we'd have 33,148,365 left after restructuring Smith (10/5 = 2 mils/yr with 2 mills added to 2015). Regardless thats enough money to follow your plan till the end.

For completeness here's the rule:

CBA, Article 16, Section 6, Paragraph 5: Proration: The total amount of any signing bonus shall be prorated over the term of the Player Contract (on a straight-line basis, unless subject to acceleration or some other treatment as provided in this Agreement), with a maximum proration of five years, in determining Team Salary and Salary.
I know this, but what i mean is they keep restructuring money which his deal is built for, there will be more guranteed money from yr 6 on. Thats why he got a small SB. Because Dallas new they would start pushing money back into them backend yrs.

Calvin Johnson signed a 7 year / $113,450,000 contract with the Detroit Lions, including a $16,000,000 signing bonus, $48,750,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $16,207,143.

thought i saw 33 lastnight on him. i was looking at avgs on top WRs not 33 but not 60 either. But Dallas isnt going to get nowhere near that guaranteed money.

Lets get rid of the headaches in this type of post. The cap the rollover and money from restructures and releases.
The cap im still going with 142.5 and rollover of 3,260,470 Adjusted 145,760,470
9.748,115 under the cap
Melton option not excercised
Dekota released
Weeden released
Free voided
Dallas goes to 19,148,365 cap space

They go to Carr and ask for a paycut, he agrees to a 6mil pay cut on his BASE SALARY.
Tyron takes a 10mil restructure
Dallas goes to 35,148,365 under the cap

Keep Carr on the roster this yr and let him have 1 last chance to win it in Dallas. And part ways in 2016 where his dead money is alot lower. Tyron's deal is just amazing that even taking his 10mil and pushing it back still does nothing to hurt you because there are so many years on it.

Resigning Dallas' own players
This has to start with Dez Bryant, Dallas cant lose him, so i think they need to work out a deal before FA starts. Dallas not working something out yet does kind of sound like they arent totally convinced in Bryants off the field life. Because it clearly cant be another on the field. But i think it gets done.
7yrs 90mil 25mil in Guranteed money(SB and Guaranteed Base)
First yr cap hit of 7mil(2mil base 5milPSB)
Remaining cap 28,148,365

Doug Free, you cant really put a price on leadership. He's in his prime right now.
3yr deal 15mil 6mil SB
First yr 3mil cap hit
25,148,365

Rolando McClain a contract that protects the team would be great in this situation. Sorta like the Lee deal
5 yr deal 20mil 5mil SB(incentives for play inserted)
First yr 2mil cap hit
23,148,365

Cole Beasley i think they need to get him tied up now.
4yr deal 12mil 6milSB
First yr cap hit 2mil
21,148,365

Justin Durant most versatile LBer
1yr deal 1mil all guaranteed
20,148,365

Sterlin Moore
3yr deal 4.5 mil 1.5 SB
First yr 1mil cap hit
19,148,365

Darrion Weems
2 yr 1.5mil 500kSB
500K first yr
18,648,365

CJ Spillman
1yr 510K
18,138,365

Ron Leary
1yr 585k
17,553,365

Free Agency

Think with the lack of DE's that arent tweeners in the draft hurts a little. The ones that are out of Dallas' reach(Lawrence and Dupree) The next tier arent locks to be starters. Lets win the superbowl.

Pernell McPhee 6'3 280lbs DE BAL
SDE if you have ever saw one. Plays in Baltimore as OLB and he's gotta have something to him if he's getting snaps and sacks with all the passrushers they have. tough on the run and can rush the passer. Hungry type of player, with an attitude.
5yr 25mil 10milSB
First yr 3mil cap hit
14,553,365

Corey Peters 6'3 305lbs DT ATL
Back from a ACL tear the previous yr and had a successful comeback. 1Tech who can play the run and give you some rush aswell. Before the ACL tear he was having a really nice yr in 2013. Should be back to full form in 2015. Only 26
4yr 12mil 4milSB
First yr 2mil cap hit
12,553,365

Colt McCoy 6'1 215lbs QB WASH
Would be a nice backup and Jerry seems to like the kid.
2yrs 4mil 1milSB
1mil first yr cap hit
11,553,365

Heading into the draft Dallas has its starting SDE and 1TECH spots locked up and already had its 3TECH and WDE locked up. Taking off a big burden of drafting for need.

RD1 Todd Gurley RB Georgia
He should be ready to go by the time the season starts. Might take a couple weeks to get his conditioning up But i dont see how you can pass him up at 27.

RD2 Cody Prewitt FS Ole Miss
Can start out playing in packages and take the next step in 2016

RD3 Cedric Ogbuehi OT Texas Tech
I know some wont like this here, but i would. Stash him for the yr on IR and come out and challenge Free in 2016.

RD4 Cedric Reed DE Texas
A guy who i think is going to challenge on somebodys team for snaps. I hopes its Dallas. Let him battle it out with Lawrence and Mincey.

RD5 Tony Washington LB Oregon
A LB asked to do what Dallas does with its SAM. play the run, rush at times and drop back into coverage.

RD7 Kyle Loomis P Portlant State
Dallas does need somebody to punt right?

RD7 Tyeler Davison DT
Develop like Bishop.

QB Tony Romo, Colt McCoy
RB Todd Gurley, Joseph Randle, Ryan Williams
FB Tyler Clutts
WR Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Chris Boyd, Devin Street
TE Jason Witten, Gavin Escobar, James Hanna
LT Tyron Smith, Darrion Weems
LG Ron Leary, Mackenzey Bernadeau
C Travis Fredrick, Mackenzey Bernadeau
RG Zack Martin, Andrew Hawkins
RT Doug Free, Darrion Weems

LDE Pernell McPhee, Ben Gardner
RDE Demarcus Lawrence, Cedric Reed, Jeremy Mincey
DT Tyrone Crawford, Terrell McClain, Chris Whaley
NT Corey Peters, Ken Bishop Josh Brent
SLB Sean Lee, Kyle Wilber, Tony Washington
MLB Rolando McClain, Anthony Hitchens
WLB Justin Durant, Anthony Hitchens
LCB Brandon Carr, Morris Clayborne, Tyler Patmon
RCB Orlando Scandrick, Sterlin Moore
FS JJ Wilcox, Cody Prewitt
SS Barry Church, Jeff Heath

Think the Defense would have improved its depth alot.

5m for Free and 3m for Beasley but you don't want to pay Murray. This love affair with Free is getting out of hand. Everyone wanted him gone 2 years ago and now we can't live without him. I think it has more to do with Fred, Martin and Leary than anything Free is contributing.

I would rather let Free and Parnell go and draft a RT than overpay Free for 3 more years. Or go with the younger, healthier Parnell. These guys don't need Free around for leadership, they have enough talent and experience on their own.

Beasley has a nice rapport with Romo, but let's not get crazy. Just give him the lowest tender and see how it goes for another season.

And not restructuring Romo is just scrapping the idea of being a Super Bowl contender for austerity's sake. Romo's dead money won't be crippling even with 2 more restructures. That 12m this year can go a long way to improving the DL and re-signing the LBs.

CJohnson was a special case because of his rookie contract. They had to go 16m a year because that's what it would cost to Franchise him and his agents knew it. Dez would cost around 12.5m to Franchise this year and 15m next year so 13.5-14m would be a better number per year with 27-30m guaranteed. I still think you are close with the 7/90m, although I would make it 88m for superstitious reasons.

Is Carr playing for 2M in 2015?

With a 5M SB and the 1st year base which is guaranteed for veterans, that quite a bit of guaranteed money for McClain.

As somebody said you can only stretch out Tyron's restructure for 5 years.

WLB is far more important in Marinelli's defense than SLB. Lee will be the WLB if McClain is retained.

Why pay Beasley more than the tender amount?

The problem with Gurley is that it is unknown when he can play. If he is out or limited at the beginning of the season then Randle/Williams will have to carry the load.

If teams know for certain that Gurley will be 100% to start the season then he will get drafted earlier.

Doug Free at 5M per year with a 6M SB is not realistic. Not long ago they refused to pay him more than 3.5M per and that was when he was 28 or 29. Now he is 31 and has had ankle surgery for 2 offseasons in a row.

Parnell would do I think but depending on a draft pick to replace a good starter on the offensive line is not just risky it's close too guaranteed problems. just say no.
Beasly is a keeper and worth fair money.

Keep building through the draft

Colt McCoy, you have such little faith In Dustin. I know Dalals sucks at the backup qb role because they ignore it and never let guys get a chance, but come on, if you cant get a future guy, at least leave it in Dustins hands to see if he can do anything with it.

Most is great, I dont get the Carter love, or the Beasley love. The draft doesnt have to instant starters this year, so your picks are realistic, but you usually have good mock drafts. So thats nothing new.

Good work overall. Again, nothing new.

I'm ok with the free agency part of it, the draft is mediocre in my opinion. Best pick is Reed. I don't like Gurley in round one at all, though I do like the player.

do his first two yrs count since he only played in 5 games each season. and i did read his yrs wrong. if this is his 8th yr the vet min for him would be 870k
http://www.spotrac.com/blog/nfl-minimum-salaries-for-2015-and-the-veteran-cap-benefit-rule/

It goes by how many games he was on the 53.

He played 5 games for the Chargers in 2010 but 11 games for the Niners that year. That's makes it 2010 though 2014 for certain (5 years).

He was most likely on the 53 in 2009 but inactive in some games. He was active week 9 and week 17 and 3 games in between so he was probably on the 53 but inactive in some of the other games.

Therefore he is going into either his 7th or 6th year depending on 2009 which is 870K or 745K.

Why don't you like Beasely? I too didn't like him that much first but really grew on me this season. He's very good in his niche.

Carrs total cap charge would be 6mil. prorated SB still applies to the cap. thats what i go by not by how much the player is making personally. Looking at it as anything different then the total cap charge is a stupid way to look at it when talking about the cap situation. I know you know what i mean when i talk about Carr specifically. IDK if its just trolling or what but whatever.

On McClain so Jerry would have to write him a check for 5mil for the SB. but a base of 1mil. 1mil base 1mil pro rated against the cap is alot?

Tyrons deal is meant to be restructured on a yearly basis if need. yes the money is trickled down for 5 yrs. But there are yrs where there is no prorated bonus right now because of the length. If thye keep restructuring him thats like having a whole new contract after the 5th yr without having to restructure a new one. This was genius by the cowboys and awsome by tyron to accept. He understood the terms and new Dallas would giving him more guaranteed money throughout the contract because of how they run the cap. wouldnt be suprised when its said and done about 40-45mil wouldnt been given to him up front instead of waiting for them weekley paychecks. Something Dez doesnt understand. Just because the SB was small in their offer didnt mean they werent going to restructure to get more to him. Im sure his agent told him what any agent would in they can cut you and you wouldnt see most of that money. But lets be honest Dallas isnt cutting Dez. that was a bad buisness decision by his agent. Dez fired him after too.

Actually theres plenty of reports around the net on his progress wich has been reported as very good. He himself has said he will be working ut and doing some things for scouts before the draft. And then still has 4months from the draft before the first game. But youre right we dont know. Still like him at 27.

The refused to pay Free with the way he was paying and their cap situation. Right now he is a different player and the situation is different. Why do you think that its automatically thinking its 5mil a yr? They can pay him 1mil in a base and 2 in his prorated bonus, leave it at 1mil in the 2nd yr or kick it up a little and have a 3-4mil cap hit in yr 2. and cut him in yr three and have a 2mil cap hit, but save 5-6mil on the cap in that 3rd yr.

Why pay Beasley 2.1mil for 1 yr when you can sign him for more yrs. I can bet you that he would get offered more as a UFA. Dallas has been doing this with their top RFA for yrs. They did this exact same thing with Barry Church in 2012. Whats the problem? They gave Church 8mil after a couple games then his injury. but still gave him the 8mil after the season ended.

Anything else.... Drop the attitude.
I read your post, and I was a little taken back, that you would present a draft, that a team, that would be a couple years away, or is a SB champion would take. IMO, the 1st 3 rounds are for starters.

I see no value, in taking a RB in the 1st round, let alone one that is injured, unless they are all world.
Also, taking essentially another Wilcox(not saying same player or skill set), who needs a year or two of development. I am not saying, he wont be good, just, Dallas' window is like this year, if not the next 2yrs.
Then, with the 3rd round pick, you say, take a guy, who will not play this year.

In 2014, Dallas got an NFL ready, dominant(IMO), RG. Then, they traded up, and got a good DE, although he got hurt. Then, in the 4th round, got a solid LB, who can play all 3 positions.

So, what is Dallas getting from the 2015 draft?

I feel, RBs are plug and play. You can make the case that Demarco is really good, but there are a few things that irk me about him. Contract year is the big one, another is improved Oline. Now, if he does this after signing his big contract, in 2015, I will eat crow, but I think I am right. I really think, after watching the transition Randle made from his rookie year, to this year, he can be a 1000 yard back behind this Oline. All Dallas needs to do with the running game, is control the clock.

I enjoy the amount of time, you take to make these posts, please do not the responses as attacking you.

What team consistently gets starters in the first 3 rounds? Does this mean that if we get a top DE in FA (there are plenty available to make that seem like a decent bet) that we shouldn't go DE in the first two days of the draft, because after all they won't start ahead of D-Law and let's just say Hughes. The simple fact is that if ANY team thinks _______ is capable of being a starter this year then they draft _______ in the first round, or early on in the second round. And before you go "Well the New England Patriots seem to do it" Jimmy Garopolo didn't see a whole lot of snaps this year neither did Dominique Easley for that matter. If you can get future starters in the first 3 rounds, that is what you want, **** this year, you likely won't get that anywhere out of the first.

Umm Seattle banged out their entire team more or less in 3 drafts.

Look at their roster most of the top players are later round picks. SEA was horrible when they first got this team started. Then they got popped for ped's. poof great defense.

I said the 1st 3 rds were for starters, not drafting developmental players. You can shoot for it, and last year, if you count hitches as one of dallas' top 3 picks, they got 3 starters. I know you can't hit on all 3, but you can try.

Just a small adjustment or two.
If you're going to re-structure Smith down 10 million.
And you're 11 million at draft time to sign.
I would have only taken part of the contract and let us get 6 milion CAP savings from it.
I would not have given Doug Free that large of a SB.
But other than that it all looks great.
Thank you.
