Why let him play ANY preseason games at all? Hell, let’s wrap the whole team up in bubble wrap. Like Parcells said, football players play football. Fans played good money. The game is on national television. Give the fans a few snaps.

That might not be a good idea. He might throw "an ill timed interception".

Last year in the first preseason game in Oakland, Garrett said the starters would play 1 to 2 series.

Witten suffered a lacerated spleen on the 3rd series, and wasn't himself until October.

That was a freak injury. I have never heard of a player getting his spleen lacerated that I can think of, although I know it does happen.

Not sure why you'd take the HOF game if you have no intent on getting guys on the field. It's not like that early opening of camp isn't negated by having to get ready for, travel to, play in, and travel from the HOF game. If you have no intent on having those guys play, I would hope that you would use some of the time leading up to that game having your guys who aren't playing working on something. At least you'd be taking advantage of the earlier camp date that way.

Last years 1st preseason game will be this years 2nd game. So you don’t want Witten playing next week either? BTW, It was a freak injury. Last time the Cowboys played 5 preseason games, Romo played against the Bengals and moved the offense right down the field. What’s the different now?

The HOF game is as meaningless as the Pro Bowl game. I would rather see all the new guys play the game just to see what they are about. Remember, this is an extra pre-season game and why risk injury to starters when they will get their chances in the last remaining games.

Or, how about this that I saw on the news! RG3 comes out and says he's glad that he does not have to play in any pre-season games because they are meaningless? In other words, he thinks that he does not need the work and that he can just start the season in game one. The media is all over the guy for that! lol

Oh, and another thing! If Romo plays only the first series and somehow throws an INT and the Cowboys end up losing the game, he is still going to get all the blame!

Good. if it were up to me Romo would play 2-3 series in ONE preseason game and that'd be it. The guy is probably the only reason we weren't on of the worst teams in football the last two years so why risk it?

Romo needs to play in the pre-season. All starters need to play because they have to get acclimated to playing against someone other than their teammates. Romo will play a few series, then maybe a whole half in some games, and if he is getting the hell beat out of him, they can bench him without worrying about the results until the regular season starts.

(i just hope that if he does play he don't throw an ill-timed INT)

The last two times Dallas played in the HoF game the other teams(Bengals and Browns) blitzed like crazy and Dallas wasn't ready for it. This is not surprising since most teams tend to play very vanilla early on in the pre-season.

I don't have a problem with this and agree to an extent, just saying that if I were the coach I'd go with his resume and experience and not risk it. Romo doesn't need preseason to get acclimated IMO, especially considering he is running for his life and playing all out every game every year during the regular season.

We are a decent defense and just a presentable O-line away from being a serious contender because Romo is so good, so I would not personally risk it.

I hear you...but Romo, as good as he is, still needs the work. He's been injured again this off season with his back and what not so going against other teams in the pre-season to shake off the rust is not a bad thing.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has announced the team probably won't allow quarterback Tony Romo in the Hall of Fame Game on August 4 against the Miami Dolphins, according to NFL.com.

"It's one of those deals where I suppose he could play five plays or whatever, but we might lean to no plays," Garrett told KRLD-FM. "But the clock starts on our '1's' in Week 2 of the preseason. So (Week 1 is) not going to be Tony's game."

Romo had offseason surgery to remove a cyst from his back in April, perhaps part of the reason Garrett wants Romo to ease into the season. Another reason could simply be its the preseason, so why take unnecessary chances?

I don't think he actually said Romo isn't playing as the thread title suggests. Garrett said "we might lean to no plays" because the clock doesn't start on the starters until Week 2.

It appears likely that Romo won't play based on the comments, but Garrett's not ruling it out entirely.

Sure it does, but I have never heard of a Cowboy player with that kind of injury. Can you name one?
No, but then I don't see that it matters what part of the body was injured. I'm saying one of the points of limiting plays in preseason is to avoid exactly what happened to Witten when he played past the limit.

Watch Romo talk Garrett into playing because Romo has more input in the team, then throw an int! That would be so cool to see.
