Romo Pick Play Commentary?

I think too many fans expect their former player announcers to be “pro Cowboys” instead of being professional enough to be honest in their critique. If any team makes a great play they should say it and if any team makes a bad play say it as well.

If a fan wants to hear cheerleader points of view, listen to the Cowboys radio broadcast. And those guys are even more balanced than many home team announcers. The Philly broadcasters are so cheerleader-ish, it’s hilarious.

For years I’ve seen some Cowboys fans blast Troy Aikman for being “anti-Cowboys” which is completely unfair . Troy is a consummate professional. He tells it like he sees it, just as he did in his glory days as Cowboys QB. He had no problem calling out teammates who didn’t meet team standards.

Broadcasters are supposed to first be professional. I think Romo and Aikman do a good job, although Troy is way better IMO.
I enjoyed Romo more that first year, but I think Troy is back on top now. Romo's lost some of his charm. I actually kind of enjoy Greg Olsen.

OPI is so rarely called relative to how often it happens.

I thought it was a penalty. I saw it before the flag was even thrown and was calling for the flag immediately.
The refs have missed SO MANY blocking in the back calls against the Cowboys the past two weeks. It’s maddening.

Great post. Totally agree.

Romo said it wasn't a penalty, Steratore disagreed. So, what's the rule there? It looked like a pick to me in real-time, but Romo said the Chiefs player didn't make contact with the defender gaurding the receiver, but his own defender, so it shouldn't have been called.
To me in looked like a screen play but down field. That may not have been the intention but that was the result.

Romo was trying not to show Cowboys bias and failed miserably.

The league has placed an emphasis on the pick play and by that measure, the penalty on KC was justified. Whether it was on "his man" or not, as Romo said, the KC player prevented a Cowboys defender from getting over and covering the receiver.

Romo can be frustrating. I was particularly irritated when he said he shouldn't have run the ball before halftime. I clearly remember him throwing that pick-six just before the break against Buffalo. Seriously, Romo, don't you recall doing that?

I think that's what he was saying.. Don't run ANY play.. just kneel down. He even mentioned the turnover you referenced though I think it was a Beasely fumble not a pick six but I guess that could have been another game.

Romo is a Mahomes, KC fan it seems. He is always sucking up to Mahomes.

It was a pick play.
KC does that a lot, and disguises it well. So it does not get called as it should all the time.

GB and Philly do the same thing.
Clearly it was a pick play he talks too damn much, their was no real effort to run a route

Its a penalty but im shocked it was called. Its pretty common

Not sure why people are criticizing Romo. He flat out said it -- many times too -- if this team wins vs Detroit they are true Playoff contenders and will probably win out.
He did say that, which I thought was fairly bold for an announcer and maybe was the Cowboy in him.

I wih ŵould run more pick plays. Test the refs a but.

I like pickens doing some slight pushoffs. Do it until the call it.
Both Pickens and Lamb seem to be testing the limits of OPI. They both regularly shove DBs away. Often, the DBs react to it and get called for DPI, so I guess it's working.

Of course, I've seen plenty of instances where other teams' receivers do this as well. Brown's TD against Bland in the Eagles' game came because Brown pushed Bland to stop his momentum when he was making his cut. It created separation. If Bland had grabbed him in retaliation there's little doubt that DPI would have been called.

@Runwildboys See up above^^^. One of many examples of Romo's "unbiased" takes throughout the game, yesterday, where he was obviously pro-Chiefs and dead wrong on his play assessment(s), even when told he was wrong by retired ref Tessatore.

Not the first time Romo has done this when commentating a Cowboys game either.

He wasn't suggesting throwing (buffalo was a different scenario). He was saying with no time to really do anything, just take a knee as even a simple hand off risks bad things.

Have you always agreed with Steratore? Whether someone is right or wrong doesn't mean they're biased. I didn't read back here, to which play are you referring?
