I get so sick of hearing that Romo should be working on being a QB every living second!! Do you in your current job live it 24/7?? Do you take vacations before a big meeting the next week?? Let the guy play and have fun doing it. Now that Favre is out of the league (maybe) Romo is the only QB that I can think of that looks like a kid in the candy store when he is on the field. Let the kid have fun and I can guarantee you the championships will come. It's not like he lost the games for us anyway ie. inconsistant pass rush, bad linebacking, DB's playing 10 yds off the ball...I could keep going!

Also, he has respect for all the old dogs...he is a big time historian of the game....he's always reading sports books.

One more thing....the quote from Troy that said when Haley got here we learned how to win.......what a bunch of bolagna!!! That team was stacked...and Haley was a stud. Haley wasn't a leader.....he always sat of practice, etc....that's not a leader! What he was was a stud DE! That's like saying we didn't know how to win until Lawrence Taylor got here????

I rewatched our playoff game the other day. I dont think Romos problem is heart or desire. I just think when his back is against the wall in big games he kind of clams up. He should work on that instead of his new offseason tricks.

Maybe a little... but his line let the D get in and he was pressured.

This could get interesting.

I could see a very entertaining internet battle between CrazyCowboy and Cowboyjoe.

:laugh2:

That would be entertaining.

right Panch, thats what im pointing too, romo was on nfl network yesterday, and he was implying that or least seems like to me, that the cowboys are getting better and improved and eventually they will get there;

What a heinous act. How dare he?

Some of you guys lack perspective.

In a half a year, Tony Romo gets this team to the playoffs. But for the conservative play calling of Bill Parcells, who doesn't have enough confidence to go after a secondary which includes a mail carrier :rolleyes: , this team advances to the divisional round of the playoffs.

In a full year, he guides this team to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed (a young team, I might add). His team gets beat by the eventual Super Bowl champions, which despite its quarterback, had a great enough defense and wide receivers who make impossible catches when the game is on the line (cough, cough, Crayton). The eventual Super Bowl champions also beat a Green Bay team that supposes to be the best in cold weather and the "Greatest Offense Ever" and the second "regular season" undefeated team.

And some of you guys are whining and implying that Tony Romo doesn't take this game seriously and isn't listening to his elders. :rolleyes:

One big reason I believe Zach was brought in this off season is to help with Veteran leadership on the team. Unlike so many high draft picks that under perform or choke when the heat is on....Zach consistently over performs, stays focused, and is very intense. I hope these qualities rub off on those around him to help us win later in the year, and in the playoffs.

And having the 90's glory team veterans giving advice to young players on the team is worth gold. They should not only listen but study and understand what they are told.

I'd be very surprised if Romo didn't listen and try to incorporate what he can into his game. The guy seems intent on getting better and appears to put the work into it. I'd be shocked. He has the intelligence and mindset to be a great QB and I think he will eventually.

The guy has less than 2 years as a starter in this league. This or next year will be his year. If he can't do it by then I suspect he'll get legitimate criticism from those in the know and with those in power to exact change in his behaviors. Until then I think this is off season spin.

I'm not sure I can even understand what the hell this post is even saying. But I'm pretty sure its misguided no matter what.

no skite, it says something about Emmitt, and then it lists requirements that players had and were/are teaching, I'm not sure psychology is a requirement Emmitt knows much about

and how that even relates to what Romo said...?

Im not sure I agree with that. .

why shouldn't you be?, Parcells told the media how he liked Romo alot because he was always asking questions about the NFL greats, and how he read so much about the history of the NFL

Romo "respects his elders"

Emmitt was a great running back, but he's a mental midget and has always been bitter since we let him go after he decided to play into his senior citizen years.

Someone just hasn't gotten enough attention lately, so they felt the need to stir the pot.

Now let's move on (again).

Don't get me wrong, I love Emmitt Smith, and have nothing but respect for the big role he player in giving us 3 Superbowl victories.

With that being said, Emmitt has been down on the Cowboys every since he left here for Arizona (but in all fairness, since TroyAikman was coerced out the door, he has been the same way). Irvin stands alone in the distinction of unconditional love for his old team (but then again, he retired mostly on his own free will).

Either way, Romo's "heart" has nothing to do with our lack of post season success. He's only been on the field for a season and a half... he just needs time to get the playoff butterfly syndrome taken care of. That happens to everyone who steps on the field in the post-season, but especially to a guy who is young in NFL playing experience.

I said he didnt take how hard it is to win seriously.

So every ex-Cowboy who doesnt kiss up to this team and gives an impartial opinion is bitter? Please. Emmitt said himself he's an analysist and it's his job to analyze. Not much of one, but still an analysist. With the way this team finished last year, they deserve to be criticized.

riight panch, thats what im saying, like burnett and carpenter said, the fans are entitled to their opinion, just because i say something or someone else disagrees or vice versa, doesnt make me right or wrong, its an opinion;

i will say this, way back there, when the cowboys didnt make playoffs in 2003 i said it was their lack of heart, desire, and no momentum in november and december;

now everyone has jumped on that bandwagon;

when T O came aboard, most people were against it, but i said, lets give T O the benefit of the doublt, and pray for him; again we have seen how that has turned out; and mostly everyone has jumped on T O's bandwagon

early in 1975, i was one that gave John Wooten a couple of pages out of Red HIckey's book on shotgun formation, 2-3 weeks later Landry installed the shotgun formation;

later that summer in preseason, we were missing field goals right and left, i saw charley waters not holding the football with top index finger before field goal was kicked, and his 4th finger off the ball too and Charley would look up at goalposts before kicker kicked the ball. I sat down and wrote Tex Schramn and Gil Brandt a letter on that. Got a thank you back from Tex Schramn thaking me, and we didnt miss hardly any more field goals that year, in fact we went to the superbowl.

lately i have been saying its time to put up or shut up;
No More Excuses!
The offensive line players like Flozell, Columbo, Gurode, Davis didnt do their cardivacular work during the bye week, etc. Well on the david smoak sports talk show, Erik a media guy and big E, Erik Williams that played for the Washington Commanders in 91-92 said same thing, the offensive linemen didnt do their work during the bye week and after, you could tell in the playoff game that the cowboys lost to the Giants;

well i have been backing up what Nate Newton said about the offensive linemen not staying in shape, and the ideal got suported by Erik Williams on the ktbb.com sports show.

So, I do know a little football, and I know what I see;

Thats why I have said, till the players grow up, we get some leaders on this team that knows what it takes to win a championship, and for Romo whom said, We are a new generation era of the Cowboys, we dont have to do it ilke the Cowboys did in the 90s. Well, again, if someone has been to a super bowl like Emmitt Smith and he says something about sensiing no heart, desire, then I would at least listen.

and when i mentioned this to Todd Archer on the david smoak show he said, there is something to that, Archer said he didnt know how much, but you do need experienced players that have played in a big game, know what it takes to win, the price you have to pay. Again, Archer said he didnt know how much of leadership from championship player was needed but there was something to that.

So, again listen. Now I did hear this from the players, Romo, Caprenter, Burnett, and Crayton, which is a start, in the right direction. They have that bad taste in their mouth, from losing in December and the playoffs, and they want to remember that to motivate themselves come December and January and not let it happen again.

Thats whiat I have been trying to say, before that , there was no sense of urgency or hurt or pain when the Cowboys lost in playoffs in 2003 or 2005-06. Now, there is, thats what you have to have, players that have that hurt attitude, showing a little heart and not wanting to let it happen again. And their new motto, FINISH!!!!!

and an old saying, Experience is the best teacher, but you can learn to from your elders if you will listen. Then learning the hard way.

Now, its time to put up or shut up, even for Romo, no more partying, celebing, but showing you want to win this year, no matter what. No More excuses, either. Show me now in December and January!!!!!!!!!

I really don't understand all of what's being discussed, but I'll say this:

Emmitt had the luxury of a team that was sculpted and designed to win by one of the best head coaches in the world.

The Cowboys of today were, too. But he was just too old to continue and finish out what he started.

But 13-3 isn't bad. And, Emmitt and the Cowboys played apathetically the next year after winning their first Super Bowl under Johnson; so much that they were on the verge of losing the second one to Buffalo.

Jimmy Johnson had to light a fire under them, and if it hadn't been for James Washington and the pass rush , they wouldn't have come back.

Emmitt got the MVP award, but it was the offensive line, defense, and James Washington who really broke the back of Buffalo after that terrible first half of the Cowboys second win under Johnson.

So, he really shouldn't look down on these guys- he should help them.

And, don't forget, it was Emmitt's fumble in the '94 championship game when everything else was going wrong that helped the 49'ers build an insurmountable lead that prevented our 3rd Super Bowl win in a row.
