Romo Situation: The Question Nobody Is Asking

I agree with almost every thing you said their but I disagree with going into OTAs with the QB position settled.

Competition is good for the team and Romo has never been a distraction. That's what his speech was all about last season. If he outplays Dak in TC the other players are going to respect that and there will be not locker room divisions. This is freaking Tony Romo not a new comer that would cause distractions. Romo showed in week 17 that he can score when Dak can not. For me the infatuation with the rookie will never out weigh the love affair with the veteran. To each his own. Romo still has it. I agree with you that Jerry will do the right thing but that means a different thing to me. If Romo isn't going to start then he will be traded. Releasing him would be a terrible business decision and Jerry won't do that... not even for Romo.

Romo is not going to want to complete for a job he never lost on the field and bringing him back and having him do so would not be a healthy situation entering OTA's and training camp. The distraction wouldn't be Romo, it would be the split in the locker room and amongst the fanbase with those who favor one QB over the other. Whoever becomes the starter, they'll be those who would rather have the other QB and it would create a season long controversy that would be a distraction. Despite how well Dak performed in 2016, there's still a spilt amongst the Romo homers who want him at QB. Why you and some still have a love affair for him is puzzling with him having a 2-4 playoff record and with his inability to stay healthy.

It's like some of you continue wanting to see the Cowboys spin their wheels year after year with Romo at QB, instead of going with what could be the next great NFL QB. You and I share very different views with yours being unrealistic. If no one makes a decent trade offer that benefits the team and Romo he'll be released because the team will have no choice due to his salary. The Cowboys have settled on Dak as their starting QB going forward and Romo makes too much money to be the backup and he won't be happy being the backup, therefore he must be traded or released and one of those two things will happen.

Romo has already had a face to face meeting with Jerry Jones asking for an open competition. They don't hit the QB at OTAs and Training Camp so there is no reason to think it would endanger his health.

The so-called "distraction" amongst the fanbase is here whether Romo is given a chance to compete or not. The locker room won't be split. These guys love Romo too and will respect the decision to make either QB the starter in 2017. Romo starting will insure we have a good backup in Dak and probably the only way will have a good backup because if Romo doesn't start he's out of here. Dak still has a bright future in Dallas, just not starting in 2017.

No matter who starts there will be detractors expressing their displeasure with the decision. Either way the players have to find a way to tune that out and stay focused on their goals.

You're right... you and I have different opinions. Romo is the best option moving forward. Dak needs to keep his nose in the playbook until he has it all memorized. He struggles far too much in the huddle to get plays called. Releasing Romo IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Trade him but no release. Jerry Jones is way too good of a businessman to just let go of such a valuable commodity.

They talked about it on Talkin' Cowboys. Jerry said no, not during the season but he would reconsider for 2017.

Talking about it on Talkin' Cowboys isn't confirmation that it actually happened. Romo isn't going to be back with the Cowboys in 2017...book it!

The guys on that show have the inside skinny on things at "The Star". Jerry is going to do right by Romo, you wait and see.

None of it has been "confirmed." Romo isn't going to be back and I'll be serving you another plate of crow the day he's traded or released.

It happened, you don't have to go by what I say. Ask the other folks on here. I'm sure they have heard the same stories I've heard coming out of the Star. He may very well be traded. I'm not eating crow if he's traded because I've never said he wouldn't be trade. It's an option. I'm telling you he won't be released.

You are so off base on this it's not even funny. Your love for Romo must have you wearing blinders if you saw a problem with Dak's grasp of the playbook, getting plays called and in the huddle. Romo barely would get plays off before the play clock ran out, we didn't see that issue this past season. You're going to once again be wiping pie off your face in the coming weeks.

"Tony Romo asked the Cowboys for the chance to compete with Dak Prescott to regain his starting job.

It was never seriously considered. Quarterback competitions take place in training camp. They don't take place during the season unless a team is flailing."

Dak admitted he was struggling in the huddle.

You're talking about during this past season, I'm talking about him not asking to complete this summer for the job in training camp. Let's clear that up.

Yup and the Cowboys policy is Quarterback competitions take place in training camp. Tony will be there.

Dak admitted he was struggling in the huddle.

Dak said a number of things because he knows he still has things to learn to get better at but I never saw any issue with him not knowing the playbook or struggling in the huddle. That discussion never came up on the board during the season.

His chance of being at training camp this summer is probably worse than Hardy's chance of being at training camp last summer. This is just more hopeful thinking on your part. You just love ending up wrong. lol

Not for me it isn't.
I could not care less how other QBs failed other teams.
This Romo walk-on from eastern Illinois padded his personal stats, made $50 million and in 11 years had 2 lousey CAREER PLAYOFF WINS for his adoring fan base.
Sorry. Danny White did the same or more but with $35 million less.
This cult of Romo is getting embarrassing for it's lack of playoffs results.
Don't be a stooge or an enabler.

BTW: Palmer is coming back to Ariz. Your Romo boy needs to get proactive because he is not getting any younger or less fragile and the market for this has-been prima dona is getting smaller by the day.

Tequila....Bad.

You must not see much of the interviews he does. I'm looking for the one I'm about to tell you about. He said all season long he struggled on Tuesdays to call plays in the huddle and relied on the veterans to get them called right.

Makes no difference if he said that it, it wasn't apparent during the season. No discussions on it.

Says you. There has been no decision about Romo and Jerry made that quit clear this week.

What Jerry says to the media makes no difference. He claimed during the season Romo would get his job back when he was healthy. lol
