That would be a bad move we have to have the QB position settled entering camp, we don't need any distractions/controversy entering the season. Romo isn't going to be happy having to compete for a job he never lost on the field and won't be happy as the backup. With his age and health issues it's time to move on from him.
I hear you, the hesitancy is admittedly from these last few games but also want to see Dak finish "well" considering he's a rookie and there will be rough spots as we've seen. We have 2 losses so not panicking on the kid. He's got about everything you want in a QB (arm, smarts, work ethic) but lacks the consistent mid-deep accuracy right now which can be improved with his footwork, but also love having Romo available coming this post-season. If it comes to a DEN situation based on Dak's play, Tony may just hang it up for good all things considered (SB Victory) :star:

It will always piss me off the Damn eagles got a 1st for Sam Bradford. A comp 4th for Romo? Smh.

Comparing Bradford's situation with Romo's is like comparing apples to oranges. Bradford is much younger than Romo and hasn't reached his ceiling. Bradford wasn't coming off a couple of broken collarbones and a broken back. He hadn't missed the better part of two seasons. Although he's had injury issues, he was relatively healthy last season and was playing excellent football the final month of the season. Romo will be 37 next season and carries a huge risk. He hasn't made it through two games the last three times he's seen the field. He needs rest days to try and keep him healthy and no one knows where his game or health is at this point.

He's had three different back injuries since 2013 and no team is going to give up a premium pick for a QB who's missed a lot of games the past two seasons and has the injury concerns he does. Minn was desperate with only two weeks before the opener due to Bridgewater's injury and saw an opportunity to bring in a 20 something QB who's shown potential and still has room to grow.

One good hit could have Romo back on the sidelines with another injury. He's become injury prone and can't take a good hit anymore. He could start having issues with his back so he'll be a huge gamble for any team that signs him and they'll need a solid contingency plan at QB in the event he goes down with another injury.

I think any statements about his trade value now should be take. With a grain of salt. Let's see what it is in March.

Exactly, most of these statements are either pure guess work or they are planted by Agents to be lower than reality or GMs to be higher than reality.

Also the winning bid for Romo won't be "what it should be", it will be the highest bidder.

Cowboys desire to do right by Romo lessens their leverage considerably. Still think these projections are ludicrously low.

I think that's a real possibility even though some people may have trouble accepting the chance of it happening.

Everything is a possibility

I think in order of things that could from least to greatest would be.....

Trade > Cut > Stay

When the Cowboys say they desire to do right by Romo I think it means with an AFC team in mind.

I can't imagine Dallas letting him go to a team where he would be instant competition.

No way.

Since Romo has this contract and DAK does not have do another deal until his current one is up...

what is the hurry?

Lets play this out.

We do not know DAK is our future.

He maybe a flash player that has skills but may not be able to handle pressure well.

Time will tell.

In the meantime keep Romo and let's see what the team does.

Right now the whole team is struggling.

I mean we lost the game to Beckhams TD.

I was flabbergasted there was no double coverage on the best WR in the NFL.

Just a zone which they shreded. That's arrogance if you ask me.

Marinelli completely must have lost his mind to allow that.

Too easy.

Dak has had one poor game all season and we all knew it was bound to happen. It wasn't all his fault, Dez didn't provide him any help with screwed up routes and fumbling away what would have a much needed 3rd down conversion. Even if Dak does continue to struggle, he'll learn from this season and for him to take another step he needs to go into camp as the starter and get all the starting reps. We committed to him this season and we have to show confidence in him.

It wouldn't be a healthy situation for Romo to have to battle for his job in camp when he never lost it on the field. It would create some tension that wouldn't happen if you had two young QBs battling for the job. Romo isn't happy as it is and making him compete for the starting job in camp next season would lead to a very unhealthy situation in my opinion that could have an adverse affect on team chemistry. Once Romo held that press conference saying this is Dak's team we can't go back to him.

We can't save any real cap space until June 1st anyways.........so be patient and act as if we are keeping him.....the market will get heated up after the draft and once any injuries happen in camp

He will not be released, so that isn't an option........you might as well forfeit our 2nd round pick if think letting him go for nostalgia is a good idea....this a business not UNICEF

the only way I trade him in the Spring and take the 19.6m cap hit in 2017 is if a team gives us their 2017 1st rounder......

....a conditional 4th is a joke
