And that is the result of shortchanging the OL for so long and having an offense that does not protect the QB by simply running the ball.

I don't believe Romo will recover fully. He was off on more throws than normal this year, especially the deep ball, and I believe that's a physical issue. That will only get worse from here.

I think he was off on his throws this year because of the limitations resulting from the back problem. If the problem is fixed, then the results should be positive. But that's question - is it fixed? I know of athletes who have come back fine from this, but also plenty who haven't.

"Substantial risk" - that's for an athlete playing in the NFL. Big hits from big bodies. For you and me recovering from this proceedure, not so much risk.

This is the primary reason why I hate Garrett. The guy got demoted after two years in a row of career-high sacks of 36 for Romo. He can't stop a blitz worthy a dime nor can he adjust to basic blitzes up the middle. This year, when our latest clown OC took over, at least our sack total dropped to amongst the top five in the league.

Thank you Garrett for your long developing play-routes that go Romo killed. Jerry is so stupid he's keeping the guy that put at risk his primary investment, the one he just resigned for lots of money. The QB Jerry thinks can get him the Sb. Worst decision in the history of football, JG.

That's on the job training for you Jerry...

Given that we always draft somewhere in the teens I'd say that this year's bumper crop of QBs is our best chance at getting a first round talent without having to trade up. It sure would be nice to get a DL or OL or DB or LB with that first pick but dims the breaks,,,

Opinion of someone who rehabbed a herniated L4/5 disc: The unfortunate bottom line is that a ruptured, herniated disc means the low back is permanently weakened and vulnerable no matter how much rehab occurs. Could he play? yes. Could he play well? Yes. But the risk is substantial. The injury will shorten his career and just one slam to the turf could potentially end his career. Given the importance of body balance and leg strength in throwing, the injury is a GIANT hurdle to overcome.

You just answered what I was about to ask. If he had "full recovery" is he at higher risk of reinjuring the back at a later time? Given the way he plays the sport and his position and our offensive scheme (unlike Denver or NE of getting the ball out early) we have to draft another qb. Best case scenario Romo comes back better than ever and takes back his position as starter and we groom a potential qb starter or trade the potential starter for future draft picks. What's really upsetting is you cannot trust the owner gm coach of what is the real case. It's all about smoke and mirrors to sell the product.

Just as an aside;

This potential nerve issue was tweeted during the week of the game. I forget the source, but he essentially said the source was Tony's wife and was saying that the sources feeding them the notion he is gonna play is hogwash. It was already known he couldn't play based on it.

Off on his throws? What? Have you seen his stats?

Well this is as good year as any to draft Romo's succesor. Excluding UCLA's Brett Hundley, who hasnt declared yet there's at leas 4 QB's with 1st round grade

Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville Jr 6-3 205
Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M, So, 6-0 210
Blake Bortles, UCFr, Jr 6-3 230
Derek Carr, Fresno State Sr 6-3 218

There's a bunch of develomental prospects including one from Romo's alma matter.

I know it was not the OPs fault but the Thread title (taken from the actual article title) is a bit misleading.

I changed it around some. Even though at the end of the day there was still an additional complication found.

I tweaked it a bit, too. But really the article was a bit of a clusterfudge. I'm honestly not sure what the "news" or overall "update" on Romo was.

Not to mention his best asset, moving around and scrambling. He looks slow out there and has looked that way all year. He does have an occasional burst, but we would see this 4 to 5 times a game back then. Now we see it 2 or 3 times a year.

He did have great stats but a lot of his throws particularly the deep ones were off. Just because he had "good stats" doesn't mean that a lot of his throws could have been affected by his back.

lol... you don't know me very well. I was being sarcastic. I'm the biggest realist here when it comes to Romo and all of his faults.

Confused how the title of the article was misleading.... there was surgery, there was a complication.

Thread titles aside, life after Romo may very well be here a lot sooner than the Cowboys anticipated. As others have pointed out, he was physically not the same this year, long before the Washington game.

if Romo can make it through the year i would be surprised. even though i want to move on from him doesnt mean i like reading reports where he can lose motor skills.
