Don't think he has the strongest arm but doubt it's the weakest. He's underthrown lot of times but he's also overthrown a lot too. He also led the NFL in most completed passes 20 yards or more in 07; around 54+. Don't forget there is a reason why the Cowboys scored more TDs (except for the Pats) then any othe team in the NFL. So exactly how many throws did Romo miss that you feel he should have completed to win games?
But agree Favre was perceived to have the strongest arm before he retired; but he also lacked accuracy with it which is why het set the NFL record for INTs. It was the strength of his game. He could hit a WR 70 yards down the field--think it was one of those long passes to WRs Jennings? which enabled Packers to come from behind to beat the Broncos in closing minute of the game. He was trying to throw deep against our secondary early in Cowboys-Packer game but Hamlin (I believe) picked it off.
Aikman had a very successful career cause, while he had a really good arm, , his short to intermediate game was great & he could hit the quick slants/outs, etc. anywhere on the field. Jason Garrett had a beautiful deep ball--partly because he understood how to use the air to get more trajectory. Garrett could certainly teach Romo to make those throws if he felt it was important. OTOH, Garrett couldn't make it as a starter cause he lacked real arm strength to rifle the ball across the field before the defender could get there & make a play on it--it took too long for Garretts ball to get to his WR in comparison with Aikman.
Do believe Romo's game is probably the deep intermediate pass (which he loves to throw and it shows) which he amazingly accurate at whether in the pocket or on the run--latter is something most NFL QBs cannot do. Romo more then makes up for any perceived lack of arm strength by numerous other strengths which most QBs can't do. Most DCs scheme against Romo to stop/limit his big-play ability & aren't usually successful.
Don't forget it was the ability of the Giant defense to bring pressure on Romo in the 2nd half of the playoff game so he didn't have time to make those big plays he usually makes. Also don't forget the Giant defense was able to bring same pressure on Favre in the playoff game & Brady in the SB; neither of them could make the winning play either with their perceived stronger arms then Romo. Let's face the real reality. If Crayton hadn't screwed up twice, he'd have caught 2 TDs; if Fasano hadn't screwed up there's another TD; if (can't remember who our other WR was) hadn't screwed up there would have been a 4th TD by Romo & we'd have blown the Giants away. Maybe that's one reason why Fasano isn't with the team any more & everybody's been screaming about Crayton whose been amazingly quiet since the game.
BTW: Romo didn't have any trouble getting the deep ball to Terry Glenn; but then Romo didn't have Glenn available in 07. And Hurd & Crayton sure didn't give Romo many chances to throw deep--since both lack speed & Austin hasn't shown he can consistently catch anything. We do know that Jerry Jones wants to add another WR to the Cowboys to play opposite TO & who can stretch the field--in other words go deep. Doubt Cowboys want such a WR if they didn't think Romo could hit him down the field. Give Romo a WR who can consistently go deep & can catch the ball and I bet you'll find he more often then not well hit him on the money.
