Nope. 100% pure devil's advocate... Cassel's the QB now and I'm behind him for sure. I'm just genuinely troubled by the way the team has handled everything, from bringing in Weeden in the first place, to replacing him with Cassel. It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Don't forget, it was a last minute panic decision, as well. They were an injury away from Darren McFadden playing QB.

At this point I really couldn't give a crap less about the stats. I just want to beat the Giants.

Cassel's bad numbers are misleading, but yet of course everyone and their dog was working overtime trying to show how Weeden's good numbers (completion %, rating, QBR) were all misleading as well. Funny how that works around here.
At least with that crazy 3rd down distance on his track record, Cassel surely won't be unprepared for McFadden and Randle running into oblivion every first down, and Devin Street dropping his second down pass. It'll be just like old times.

I meant Weeden's other numbers were misleading, not Cassel's. I think I worded that poorly. Anyone who has watched the two play can easily tell Cassel is better. Not great, but capable. Something Weeden can't claim.

First of all Percy's threads are my favorite. Love the Romo stats especially that verify just how great a player he has been.

But for me, when it comes to Weeden, stats don't really mean much and I admit I have only followed him closely since he has been a Cowboy, so small sample size. But, first and foremost I don't think Weeden has the personal courage required to play the position. I think this is best illustrated by him bailing early out of clean pockets but also that give up slide towards the end of the game was just embarrassing. He seems to lack the will to win. Check downs are fine, but you can't always take what the defense gives you because they don't give you first downs. Crucial third downs you must give your team a chance. I also don't think Weeden has the mind to play the position. He doesnt seem to be able to process what is going on so he can go through his progressions or recognize when the the offense could be put in a better position to succeed.

For me, weeeden just doesn't give his teammates a reason to follow. He's got to be one of the most uninspiring qbs I have ever watch playing the game. I honestly just feel like he just does not care. These stats certainly don't make me feel better about Cassell but my hope is he at least willing to do what it takes to win two of the next four games, till Romo can fix all our offensive woes and gets us where we need to go.

Yet Cassel was 2-2.

How's Weeden's record?
In Cassel's two wins, his defense gave up 13 and 6 points, his running game rushed for 175 and 184 yards, and he threw a total of 1 INT. If he can get that type of support from his defense and running game again, he'll win.

Of course, you could say the same thing about any QB who only throws 1 INT while getting that kind of support -- not just Cassel.

Thank you for the kind words. See "Percentage of 3rd-Down Completions Resulting in a First Down" in the OP. This is for their last 3+ games.

Romo 68.2%
Cassel 58.8%
Weeden 42.1%

This next list is from the larger sample. You can see the same pattern

Romo 78.7%
Cassel 63.5%
Weeden 50.8%

Here's the percentage of all 3rd-down drop backs that resulted in a first down, again from the larger sample of games.

Romo 48.0%
Cassel 34.4%
Weeden 26.6%
