heres what I gather....Cassel is 50% better than weeden, esp when looking at 3rd down stats.

Literally all we needed in the saints or falcons game was 1-2 more first downs.

Cassel stands a chance to be able to do that for us.

@percyhoward's threads are great in support of the greatness of Romo, but I don't think anyone really needs stats to backup just how ineffective a QB Brandon Weeden is. One simply needs to watch him play. Just like most people can look at a catch and realize it is one (except apparently Dean Blandino), most people can watch Weeden play and realize he's hardly even a capable backup. I don't want to see that guy on the field again.

I don't want you take this any wrong way, I'm just genuinely curious, but do you have something against Cassel? Is it personal?

People with Jerry Avatars are Jerry haters. He is trying to point out that Jerry and the Cowboys management screwed up the QB situation.

Bottom line is weeden as a bkup is supposed to win some games ?
He is 0-4 as a cowboy.
Orton was 0-1
Cassel is 0-0 so lets see if he can get a win.

My eyeballs tell me Cassel is better than Weeden.
It depends on which aspect of their performance you're looking at, and what your main focus is offensively. If it's about depending on the QB to keep drives alive with 3rd-down conversions, Cassel would seem to give you a better shot at doing that. If you have a good defense to go with an effective running game, Weeden would appear to have the edge, because his style of play involves less risk and less reward.

Both of them have spent a lot of time playing from behind, and although that's partly due to their own (mostly poor) play, being behind does hurt their numbers. From the "larger sample" of games, here's how they've played when their team had a lead:

Cassel 62 of 98 785 yd 8.0 ypa 5 td 3 int 92.4
Weeden 66 of 94 654 yd 7.0 ypa 2 td 2 int 87.8

Cassel has been slightly better with the lead. Really if you're able to play it safe, grind it out, and wait for the other team to make a mistake, either QB would do. But that hasn't been happening, and we need to be more aggressive offensively. So it's a little more than simply change for change's sake. Cassel takes more chances, and yet is veteran enough that he can still be trusted with the lead if his risks pay off, or if he does get support from his defense and running game.

If we're trying to come from behind, there's no Romo to bail us out.

Net passing in 2nd half, trailing by two scores or less
from larger sample of games
(includes all drop backs, counting sacks and sack yardage in rating)
Romo 50 of 62 736 yd 11.9 ypa 10 td 1 int 2 sk 149.0
Cassel 58 of 119 620 yd 5.2 ypa 4 td 3 int 7 sk 65.1
Weeden 68 of 145 821 yd 5.7 ypa 5 td 3 int 16 sk 67.6

Bottom line is that we still need the rest of the team to do more for the backup QB. That's if past performance is any indication, of course.

Is there some reason we can't use Romo's stats from the last three games he appeared in? Which would be relivent.

can he be worse than Weeden? the answer could well be a BIG YES but i am not worried about it because i think that means our season is toast, you cant win with your 2 best players out most of the time.this is a failure of the FO who thought Weeden can be a capable backup.

you should learn to read and interpret statistics. I'll give you a hint here:

Percentage of 3rd-Down Completions Resulting in a First Down
Romo 68.2% 15 of 22
Weeden 42.1% 8 of 19
Cassel 58.8% 10 of 17

You should really heed your own advice.

Here. Allow me to provide you with a hint. Go back and read the original post again. Slowly. Might take you until morning.

I can't provide help with the statistics. Frankly, I dint have the patience to teach you. Nor do I have infinite time.

Hope that helps!

Bottom line, all three QBs will look much better than Weeden did IF Dez is back. Without Dez, they will have trouble moving the ball.

Cassel has a great OL to play behind. Did not have the OL we have. Incorporate that.

One scrub for another scrub. This might get real ugly. I'm not even sure Cassel know enough of the offense to be effective.

Thread sucks. OP is a ******.

I hate it when irrefutable empirical evidence gets in the way of my optimism.
