There's a reason why he's the highest rated 4th quarter QB in NFL history. It's because he's darn good in the clutch.

There's also a reason he has a career 74 passer rating with 5 minutes or less to go in the 4th quarter and either tied or down by less than 7 points.

Its because he's not that darn good in the clutch.

actually that is pretty darn good when compaired to others down by 7 with less than 5 minutes left. Only brady , and brees have a better rating with less than 5 minutes down by a score the last 3 years. Your close minded .

Link to the rankings of that stat, by chance?

This is the most intentionally misleading stat to come down the pike in a long time, courtesy of FOX Sports.

They tell you Romo's rating is 74, then give that number no context. So you assume it's a low number. It's not. Truth is, it's actually well above average.

If you take the 32 QB with the most attempts in this situation (5 minutes or less to go in the 4th quarter and either tied or down by less than 7 points), Romo ranks 10th out of 32.

Any stat in which a player or team ranks 10th out of 32 is a good stat for that player. He's one of the top 10 QB in the NFL over his career in these situations. And remember, FOX picked the parameters that would give Romo the lowest rating possible. If you change the situation to "2 minutes or less" Romo moves up to 5th. If you make it "8 minutes or less" he moves up to 6th. You finally just have to conclude that he's very good in these situations.

Despite the best efforts of the good folks at FOX and what they want you to believe.

youre dead on , espn actually had an article on this after the vikings win and he is right at the top with that 75 rating at the end of games. Most elite qbs including rodgers and peyton are actually in the 60s in similiar situations...

His record of comebacks against teams with winning records is not good.

Before today, when's the last time you remember Romo leading us on a game winning drive at the end of the 4th?

Great job today.. but idk about the "yet again" part.

3 weeks ago vs Minnesota.

What was it 5 or 6 game winning drives last season?

The blind hate for Romo in this thread is unreal.

Thanks for adding some truth into the conversation.

There is A LOT of things wrong with this team, and the QB position is near the bottom of the list.

And Latinmind, propping up Dez for saving this game despite Romo.... The guy costs us 25 yards on a fumble, killing the drive.

He also managed to drop a pass that hit him in the chest, causing an interception and killing that drive.

Romo being money in the redzone was crucial to the Cowboys winning that game. He threw 2 bullets to Witten.

How many came against teams with winning records? It is not near the accomplishment when a comeback is against some bad team in a meaningless game.

Do you realize that his comebacks against the better teams can be counted on your hand? It is a very telling stat because beating scrub teams by a last minute drive is not that damn impressive.

his 3 drops cause a int and a fumble?

and i believe the op is talking bout the final drive. Romo was off all game and Dez and Beasly saved him from media ridicule this week.

Not really.. they just went to who they should have went to all game long...

2 weeks ago against Minnesotta? Surely you didn't forget about that game, it wasn't that long ago. :p

Simply not true, that's why he has the highest rating in NFL history in the 4th qtr. You can't not be clutch, but then have the highest rating in the 4th qtr out of all QBs. Talk about a contradiction.

I agree. I love Dez but Dez also had some costly mistakes. The 1st int that was on Dez and then the fumble and a big drop in the game. Dez was far from perfect.
