What exactly was the model when it took them 26 years between Super Bowl winning teams? You know 1980 to 2006?

The good news is we are chasing their record. Only 13 years to go!

That is my point. It isn't easy. What most people consider the model franchise went 26 years in between Super Bowls. It isn't as easy as most people think.

But some franchises come closer than others.

People like to play the extreme card a lot, but bottom line is if this team spent the last decade either close to the playoffs, in the playoffs, deep in the the playoffs or in the Superbowl, you would hear a lot less moaning.

I think most rational people understand you are not going to hoist a Lombardi every year. But this year was the first time we were even favored to in over a decade, and when it flops you need to start looking at why. And all of the dry years in between opportunities.

what you fail to mention... in that 26 year time frame

they played in AFC championship games

in 84, 94,95,97,01,04 and finally 2005

thats a total of 7 AFC championship games with 2 wins...

in the 12 years we have YET to win a playoff game.

Uhh, Al Davis has a few more playoff victories than Jerry in the LAST decade.

It's these kind of things, along with the Cards in the Super Bowl, that make me very depressed.

But, I'll keep on keeping on.
Great point. As bad as Al Davis gets ripped, he got the Raiders to the SB in 2002, lost an Afc Title game after the 2000 season, and had a Title game appearance after 01 stolen becuase of Tuck Rule.

I would say Al has had a much better decade than Jethro Jones.

We've slipped to 3rd in winning %, and will be 2nd in Super Bowls.

The last 12 years have been atrocious. Thank you, Jerry Jones.

Embrace the Mediocrity!

I am so very embarrassed

we are now closer to teams like the Lions and Cincy

than the steelers or Patriots

sad but true

Look I am not saying the Steelers aren't a great franchise because they are. I was just trying to point out that it is harder than you think. It is also a lot harder now because of the salary cap. Remember also that the Steelers also played in one of the worst division ever for a long time. When you play the bengals, browns, and oilers twice a year forever you win most of the time. I know each of those teams had a run hear and there but for the most part they were bad. This helped Pittsburgh no doubt. We play in one of the toughest divisions each year and always have. I am just as pissed as the rest of you about this current mess we are in but I don't think it is as bad as most people do. If we make a few changes and stay healthy next year I think we will be ok. Now this may not happen but I don't think it is as bad as most do.

I hate the steelers BUT

they have an owener who is a owner not GM scout coach ect....

They are going to the 2nd superbowl in 4 season most likly going to be the first to 6 superbowl wins.

While our owener wants to play GM and his team has not won a playoff game since the talent from the early 90's has run out....

sad

it's not like boxing, where coming in second is bad, there will be no shame in the Cowboys being the second team to win six Superbowls. Much to the demise of the Jerry bashers, he will be responsible for 4 of the 6 when it happens. Let that sink in folks as we watch Arizona get to the very first one, of teams entire existence.

We haven't won a playoff game in the salary cap era, other than the 96 team was which was still loaded from the Jimmy years.

Apparently, this is not such an obstacle for many, many other teams.

He hasn't won squat in 13 years.

I'm thinking Stephan gets credit for number 6.

You right but all we can do is keep trying and hopefully it will turn around. I am still going to be a fan no matter what and I will live and die with this team.

Hey me too.

Just pointing out the reality, and why all things considered I would rather have the Rooney's record than the Jones'.

Can't argue with that attitude. You are a fan like all of us. We can only hope that Jerry realizes that he's a "business" man and not really a "football" man. He has never been truly successful without a true "football" man guiding the ship. People cite the 1995 season but I just cannot accept that, that team was "Jerry's" but that's just me. Jerry simply remains a Bafoon....

Once Jimmy Johnson's team got old, he hasn't even won a playoff game.

Yes, there's a shame in not getting to 6 first, when you've thrown away year after year in a stubborn attempt to prove you're not the league's worst GM.

yet I am told here that winning the SB is all that matters so by that definition the Steelers were abject failures for 26 years.
