Watching the game I realized these two teams have totally different objectives. SF was playing to win. Garrett seemingly just put his guys out on the field with the simple instructions to go make plays as individuals. I didn't see any semblance of a unified team representing the Cowboys.

That is the biggest thing that people seem to forget...not everyone has the same goals or objectives. I think Dallas looks more for guys to make plays where they beat their man. I think a lot of other teams look more to see guys produce within their system. Dallas thinking is if they can succeed individually they will find a way to get them to succeed within the scheme. I think Bellichick is more like how we run things in preseason. I think Parcells was the same way...Johnson also.

Anyway, I don't think that the score from last night's game has any bearing how things will go in 3 weeks.

We looked absolutely horrible.

Only bright spots were:

Gregory is about 2 years ahead of schedule. Can't remember a rookie showing this much technique this early on

Russell

Keith Smith

Corey White - Extend his contract right now

Joseph Randle looking like a skilled runner

QB's are awful.. Absolutely awful.

Couldn't say it any better than this. Spot on.

ejthedj, thanks for the look.

Both special teams and backup quarterbacks are presently a problem.

Think that Whitehead has won a roster spot?

The potential downside of this approach is that the key players don't get enough reps in the preseason and the sloppy play carries over into the regular season. They played one of their poorest games in the first game last year.

Perhaps. But there is also the idea that Dallas simply does not take preseason games seriously. I cannot even name the time we looked like we were doing much of anything other than trying to just get the game over with.

Yes, Whitehead has looked decisive and fast as a returner. He's the only one we got.

Agree...and as far as Hardy goes, not sure it makes sense to put him out there, take minutes away from guys who need them & whom will be playing in his place for the first 4 games. Getting guys to 'gel' in the preseason, only to lose one of them for four games, makes zero sense. And if you've seen this guy practice, he has about as much rust as that 2017 Ford F150 sitting at the Detroit Auto Show. SMH

So you'd rather not have him out there and then just bring him in after the 4th game?, it's best to get him as much playing time as possible since he missed all of last year. Practice can never match real game speed so he needs to develop chemistry with his teammates, look at how McClain folded down the stretch last year.

As for the RBs i'm not judging any of them until i see them run behind the starting O-Line, i was surprised to see Randle get some positive yards with only 2 starters out there.
