Things are taking shape, and I'm pleased to say, I think this roster represents some really solid depth across the board that we haven't seen in recent years. Good players will get cut, certainly a couple that you may wish you hadn't one day. That's a good sign.

I think the picture becoming pretty clear, so with that said, here's my stab at the 53 that SHOULD make this team. Notice how, suddenly, there is depth in the offensive line!

With that, please stay healthy, boys!

QUARTERBACKS - 2
Tony Romo
Kyle Orton

RUNNING BACKS - 4
Demarco Murray
Joseph Randle
Lance Dunbar
Philip Tanner (too good on special teams to let go and carry three)

TIGHT ENDS - 4
Jason Witten
James Hanna
Gavin Escobar (worried about this pick; won't suit out many gamedays)
Dante Rosario

WIDE RECEIVERS - 5
Dez Bryant
Miles Austin
Terrance Williams
Dwayne Harris
Anthony Armstrong (much sturdier and faster than Beasley)
OFFENSIVE LINEMEN - 9
Tyron Smith
Ronald Leary
Travis Frederick
BRIAN WATERS (Got to make this happen, Jerry)
Doug Free
Phil Costa
Jermey Parnell
Mackenzy Bernadeau
Nate Livings (costs us against the cap anyway, and I want Arkin gone for good)

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN - 9
Demarcus Ware (about to have his best season as a pro)
Jay Ratliff
Jason Hatcher
Anthony Spencer
Kyle Wilber
Nick Hayden
Ben Bass
Sean Lissimore
George Selvie

LINEBACKERS - 7
Sean Lee
Bruce Carter
Ernie Sims (I think he starts over Durant; great camp from Sims)
Justin Durant
Alex Albright
Devonte Holloman
Brandon Magee

CORNERBACKS - 5
Brandon Carr
Mo Claiborne
Orlando Scandrick
Sterling Moore (this guy is a player)
B.W. Webb (lot of inactive gamedays ahead for this guy)

SAFETIES - 5
Barry Church
Will Allen
JJ Wilcox
Matt Johnson (oy, dude, this is your last chance)
Eric Frampton

SPECIALISTS - 3
Dan Bailey (bless this man)
Chris Jones
L.P. Ladoucer

My only issue with this list is that it's hard for me to see Cole Beasley not making the team. Yes, he gets banged up a lot but hes a good route runner and knows how to get open. That is what you need in a Romo offense. Get open, and Romo will get you the ball. He's definitely making the team IMO.

agreed. beasley makes plays. he'll make the team for sure.

also, i think tanner makes it for more than just special teams. he brings a physicality that this offense lacks at the skill positions, with the exception of dez. he seems to run like every carry could be his last chance in the league. i've gotta believe that garrett wants that kind of hunger to rub off on the team.

I don't see Escobar being inactive on game day.

The questions are down to:

4th RB (it appears that they will keep 4)
5th/6th WR (Armstrong and/or Beasley, 5 or 6)
9th/10th OL (9 or 10, who is affected if they sign Waters, could Livings be put on the designated for return IR or cut despite the guaranteed salary)
9th DL (8 or 9)
7th LB (6 or 7)
5th Safety (Frampton, McCray or a rookie like Hamilton)
4th TE (is 4 definite, is Rosario really a lock)

Players like Selvie, Armstrong and Frampton could probably be cut and re-signed after a game or two when a roster spot inevitably opens up.

You're probably right on Beasley. I just don't see what all the fuss is on him. Can't play special teams, and he's the fifth receiver. What does he do on game day? Basically, nothing.

If you keep six receivers, then you have to cut Selvie, Holloman, or Magee. Those guys can play more snaps and special teams than Beasley.

Beasley moves the chains. Plain and simple.

Not only do I realize Beasley will probably make the team, so will Danny McCray.

McCray is the team's best special teams player.

He's short and white. Therefore, he's got to be our version of Wes Welker.

Armstrong has been consistent to date. Coale better step up his game if he is going to make the traveling squad.

Austin, Bryant, Harris, Williams, and Beasley are all locks.

I was talking about Beasley. Coale is not looking good at all. Armstrong can beat him out.

I hope Kowalski gets back in there soon. I'd keep him over Costa. Don't want to keep a one position player as a back up. If a guard goes out we would be forced to slide Frederick over hurting two spots.

There's so much truth to what you just wrote, it's amazing.

That's not true at all. He shows up on practice, he shows up in pre-season games. He has improved from last year to this year. Makes no sense to give up on him now.

McCray is the team's best special teams player.

Frampton was the Special Teams ace while he was with the Vikings. He is basically a similar special teams player to McCray. Also, Frampton's salary is about half of McCray's (750K vs 1.3M). Frampton is a better Safety than McCray.
