With the 53 man roster in place (at least, until after game one), the Boys have 15 new players on their roster:

Jon Kitna, QB... free agent...
Stephen McGee, QB... draft pick...

John Phillips, TE... draft pick...

Kevin Ogletree, WR... undrafted rookie free agent... the only UDRFA on the team this year...

Duke Preston, C/OG... late preseason waiver wire pickup...

That's just 5 new players on offense...

Igor Olshansky, DE... free agent... will be a starter...
Junior Siavii, DT... in Cowboys camp last year, stuck this year...

Keith Brooking, ILB... free agent... will be a starter...
Victor Butler, OLB... draft pick...
Jason Williams, ILB... draft pick...
Curtis Johnson, OLB... late preseason waiver wire pickup...

Gerald Sensabaugh, S... free agent... will be a starter...
Mike Hamlin, S... draft pick...
Marvin White, S... late preseason waiver wire pickup...

Lots of turnover on defense, especially the linebacker corps...

David Buehler, K... draft pick... urban legend... :D

So, we have 4 veteran free agents, 3 of whom will be starters while the other significantly upgrades the backup QB position... we have 6 draft picks, with 3 more on IR and 2 on the practice squad... the 12th draft pick would have been on the PS if he hadn't been claimed by the Browns for their active roster... we have one undrafted rookie free agents... we have Junior Siavii, not sure exactly how to describe him, LOL...

And we have three late preseason waiver wire pickups-- Duke Preston, Curtis Johnson and Marvin White... I'm quite high on Preston and Johnson, not so sure about White...

All in all, a 15-16 player turnover per season is about what you're looking for, I think...

I think they upgraded every position except one. The third OLB replacing Spencer who is now starting.

Good point. I was scanning the list of the newcomers.

Maybe Carpenter's testicals drop and he becomes ferocious.

I'm hoping he just looks different in real games. He wasn't a problem against the run his rookie season. He didn't play timid there. In fact, he started to become pretty aggressive. So maybe in real games he'll turn it on.

Or maybe he is too much of a vag now to be a football player.

I was thinking that every time I saw Burnett making plays this preseason.
But he was happy to leave so...

Burnett didn't exactly light it up either, and was often injured.

I'm not so sure about that.

OK given, he isn't Superman when it comes to playing the run (in fact he is more of a Clark Kent). But he is really good against the pass. And he will be used in nickle situations, so 70% of the time he will defend passes.

I am not sure if he is really an upgrade over Burnett but i do think he is not much of a downgrade neither.

I'm pretty sure Burnett has out played Carp in during their years with the cowboys.

This is Carp's last year on his contract correct? So it's a make or break season for him, He sinks or swims this year

I was hoping that his OBGYN might scribe some Testosterone just this once.

The other day when people were calling Octavian "Dr Oc", I was kind of wishing Carpenters name was Octavian so we could all call him Octopuss

anyone really think the QB who went 0-16 is better than Brad Johnson... enough to win important games?

As a QB, how do you go 0-16 and get a better job? I would take my chances with the rookie!

It's weird, how quickly this thread about the new players on the roster turned into yet another extended whinefest about Carpenter...

Guess y'all don't have any opinions about the new players... but hey, thanks for crappin' up the thread... :D

One correction needs to be made to the above-- Kitna was not a free agent, he was of course acquired via the trade route... that was a brain cramp on my part...
