Round 1 Tyron Smith Thoughts

I dont.

Peterson does nothing to fix the OL, nor does he really do anything to fix the lack of pass rush.

But he does fix the secondary, which finished dead last in the NFL last year.

Peterson, Miller, Green, etc... those guys are all Elite Blue Chip prospects. You're overrating Smith if you think he belongs in the same category as those guys. Most rankings I have seen place Smith outside of the top 15 players in the draft. If he were a legit Blue Chip Tackle there is not way we'd be the first team to consider taking him at 9, Elite Tackles are right up there with QBs and Pass Rushers as the most valuable positions in the draft, they go top 3-5.
First off, how do you know no other teams ahead of us are considering him? Second, consider those teams and what their needs are. Most have significant concerns elsewhere at more pressing positions. Some of the teams above us already have their OL positions secured, so it'd make no sense for them to consider Smith.

IMO, Smith's game film says 2nd Round but the fact that he's so young and has all that potential is pushing him into top 15 consideration
Not a one of these draft "guru's" or NFL people I see comment on him seems to agree with you.

Yeah, bad because the pass rush didnt get there. We had Ware and absolutely nothing else in the front 7. Ratliff had a bad year. Spencer was invisible. The blitz schemes were easily diagnosed and defeated.

The safety position is far worse than the CB position here.

Buffalo and Arizona have glaring needs at LT yet there hasn't been any notion that they're interested in Smith because IMO it's too big of a reach.

Really? Because the most commonly used comments that I see on Smith are "potential" and "ideal measurables". Very rarely do I see them talk about how dominating he was in college, and for good reason because he is a below average run blocker.

I think Smith is the pick if we stay put at 9 for a few different reasons, but none of those reasons are because he's the BPA. To say he's in the same tier as Peterson and Miller is just false.

Unless Peterson starts at FS and is a lot better than Ball then he does NOT fix the secondary or even come close.

And most of those you claim talk about Smith as not a top 15 players have changed their tune. The only real concern about smith was his weight and strength which are gone. He steadily improved over the year at USC from first game to last.

I see it differently, the pass rush wasn't great because our secondary was terrible in coverage. More times than not the ball was gone before our pass rush had a chance.

Plus Peterson can play anywhere in the secondary and be a difference maker.

Maybe he can be a difference maker. You seem to forget that ALL these playrs are POTENTIALS. How many "can't miss" players have missed?

A top CB cannot make as much difference for our D as a MUCH BETTER RT can make for our O.

Only if Peterson goes to FS and gets it done would the impact be as great.

More times than not the QB stood back there forever, thats lack of pass rush. Alot of times nobody even got a push other than Ware.

Some of it can be attributed to scheme, but the fact is a good pass rush makes even an average secondary look much better. On the other hand I dont care what kind of players you have in the secondary, if you dont rush the passer people will get open.

Or the Cowboys release Newman, who was horrible last year, and replaces him with a potential shutdown corner in Patrick Peterson...

Our new DC doesn't agree with this, him and his brother have shown they favor secondary talent>pass rush talent.

Buffalo and Arizona also both have glaring needs for QB's and pass rusher dont they?

Yeah pretty much really. And run blocking is only half what they do, pass blocking is much more of a premium now anyway because virtually every teams passes mroe than it runs.

And I wouldnt expect the guy to be a dominant run blocker at 280 lbs or whatever he was playing at, but he's up to around 310-315 now and despite having soem of the longest arms ever, benches 225 31 times at his proday.

Maybe, maybe not. Nobody will know for several seasons.

Newman was far from horrible, and he isnt going to be released.

And even if he were, he'll almost assurdly be resigned by us the next day just to save cap space.

Huh? When have either one of them ever said that?

Duh. He doesn't play OL or DL.

Tell that to every team that ever had Deion in his prime. Tell that to the Jets now.

If you don't know by now that the Ryan brothers value secondary talent over pass rush talent then you haven't been paying attention.

Deion really didnt make any difference in Atlanta now did he? I think they made the playoffs one time while he was there and their defense was consistently awful.

Deion helped the Niners and Cowboys win a championship because those two teams were vastly more talented than everyone else. We won two championships easily without him. We'd have beaten his Niner team in 1994 if it werent for the injuries and bad officiating. We'd have probably still won the super bowl in 1995 without him, especially if Kevin Smith hadnt gotten hurt in week one.

I'll take a great pass rush over a secondary with one good CB any day of the week.

Where is there any evidence of this whatsoever? Your just making an outlandish statement that cant be supported.

Every time I hear one of them speak, they all (the twins and his daddy) talk about the value of knocking QB's down and disrupting a passers rythym. They talk about dominating up front and being physical.
