Roy Williams appreciation thread...

Good for you, EMMITnROY. Some guys here have made it a personal mission to help the local media talk Row out of another pro bowl appearance.
thanks, LD... yeah, I've noticed that too.. I'm just curious now to see what JFE says this week.. I'd bet my Everson Walls rookie card she won't give him any credit and still talk crap on him.. any takers?

Roy was very good yesterday, and he wasn't nearly as bad as people might have led you to believe a week ago. But again, yesterday, he was very good...

I hope people are fair and balanced when it comes to Roy, but I doubt it.

I thought the "soft bigotry of low expectations" only applied to inner-city school children, not multi-million-dollar strong safeties. Congrats Roy, on peforming like we expect you to perform every week, considering your draft status, rep, and enormous salary. Come here so I can pet you on the head.

Roy played nickle linebacker yesterday and did well. I really like Roy and Burnett in the LB position on passing downs.
Actually, he was dominant playing in that position. If you go back and watch, it is true that when RW is closer to the line, he's basically unstoppable.

I'm willing to bet that if they moved RW to ILB full time, he would probably become all world.

But yeah, he was very good yesterday.

Exactly what i was thinking. He actually played better last week than he did yesterday. I think some ppl just need something to cry about or they don't feel whole.

I thought Roy was outstanding yesterday in Miami. That's what I expect out of #31.

As someone mentioned previously, he, along with everyone else, should be taken to task when performances rate as subpar. To be fair, I'm more than willing to praise a guy when their play is deserving.

Against the Dolphins, our safety play was pretty darn solid.

I think he was put in a position that allowed him to use his skillset better this week. It also allows Bradie James to get off the field on 3rd down. James by the way has played very well.

The way Roy was used in this game, for the most part, played to his strengths.

People say he's bad in coverage, but he's very good in coverage when he's coming forward. In those situations, he reads the QB well, breaks on the ball well and delivers the hit well.

We need to do what we can to allow Roy to play this way, and also attack the line of scrimmage.

Roy got lucky and had an interception. He still does not know how to blitz, unless they are teaching to bull rush bigger, stronger players than him. If that is what they are doing, then he is spot on. His game was OK, nothing special, he is supposed to blow stuff up every game. So now that he has a decent game we are supposed to throw our arms around him and say everything is alright. It's not, he has to have a string of games before I drink the Kool Aid.

Ah, bbgun, my arch-nemesis. ;)

A simple "Good game, Roy!" would have sufficed. You were one of the bigger complainers last week about Roy's play. All I'm saying is that you had plenty of time and energy to put in your two cents last week to bash the guy, yet you can't even say something good about him in an appreciation thread.

I find it funny that the thing you use to argue against him is his draft status, rep and his enormous salary. Okay, first off, he has already justified far and away his high draft status. You know how many 1st rounders each year are busts? You know how many 1st rounders each year are "just a guy"? Just look at our roster for evidence. Yet Roy gets more crap than any of them for some reason. And Roy isn't a bust. Roy isn't "just a guy". Roy is a 4 time Pro Bowler, a gamechanger, a playmaker, and probably the hardest hitter in the NFL. Then you mention his rep. Well, how do you think he got that rep? They don't just give them out to people. He got a rep because he is all those things I just mentioned. And his salary was given to him because the Cowboys front office and every single coach he's had here is impressed with him and believe he's worth the money.

I'm sure hearing the truth hurts you a little and got you all emotional and frustrated on the inside. I'm sorry about that. Come here so I can pet you on the head.

Roy's int was no more luck than the INT Romo threw last weeked. It appears to me that Roy was reading Green the whole way and almost appeared to be running up a bit to go after a scrambling QB. The throw by Green was not bad because it was being thrown to Ginn however he didn't see Roy running into the area. It was a great play by Roy, the defensive coaches put him in the position.

Do not bother ...... some of these people will never get it.

Roy Williams is the most over rated player in the NFL. Praise enough?

No.

Ok he is a fat SOB that can't cover worth crap. He is a liability on the team that blames others for his shortcomings.

Need more, don't worry I got more.

Is it asking too much to have your highest paid, "All-World" (according to some on here), and team "leader" to mix in a good game every once in a while?

I'm a Cowboys fan, and I want Roy to be the best damn player on the field, because he's paid to do so, and as I said he had a decent game, so I'll acknowledge said game.

He had a "nice" game...surely not an "incredible" or "amazing" game, but again, he ain't paid to be "nice." In fact, shouldn't "nice" be the absolute minimum we all expect from him?

All of you Roy apologists must sit around and beg for him to actually tackle someone or get a pick, so you can throw it in our faces, but the truth is you care more about his level of play than he appears too. I'll say it until he's gone — he's no better now than he was in his rookie season.

And, if you guys expect him to suddenly "get it" and a light switch to go off in his 6th season so you can tell us what a great player he is, knock yourselves out. I'll judge him on more than just one, nice game.

I'll go one further he was better his rookie year.

If it's all the same ignorant crap as that you can just keep it.

Did you listen to or read the recap of Wade Phillips' press conference. He had a very good game. And he has had a lot of good games. I guess AdamJT13 has just given up because the facts go right over the heads of guys like you; but he has posted stats several times that prove that RW is among the very best safetys in the league. The following is from the Cowboys web site.

Williams is likely to see more time playing closer to the line of scrimmage in Wade Phillips' style of the 3-4 scheme in 2007. He is one of just five defensive backs (Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins, Rodney Harrison and Deshea Townsend) to have posted two-or-more sacks and interceptions in the same season three times in the last five years (2002-06). He has led the club in interceptions twice (2002 and 2006) and has returned three of his 17 career interceptions for touchdowns--leaving him one touchdown shy of the club record of four that is held by Dennis Thurman and Dexter Coakley. He has also recorded 6.5 sacks since entering the league in 2002.

Of course I listened - I'm a fan.

You think he's the greatest thing ever...I don't. And, he's also had his share of really bad games.

I prefer the Cowboys players/leaders, like Cliff Harris, R. White, Aikman, Lilly, etc. who actually LED the team. They support their team (don't point fingers), talk to the press (and us) through good and bad (don't run from the press) after games and they play beyond their hype.

I heard Phillips say good things this week, just like I heard dance very gingerly while refusing to say anything bad about him last week. He knows his fragile "leader" can't handle the negative.

As I said, he had a "nice", or "good" game. I expect a bit more from the "greatest saftey ever".

^^Who had the dirtiest jersey out on the field on Sunday? Im sure some people are gonna read that question and say who cares but Roy Williams is a warrior. Anybody who talks about him like hes a liability on the team is ********. I dont know what yall saw but i saw on several running plays how 2 offensive lineman were targeting him while he was playing SAFETY. He wasnt playing the nickel linebacker. Think those lineman would give a damn if Keith Davis was playing safety? Man whatever. Roy was gettin down and dirty on Sunday while our linebackers were clean as a whistle. People think we look bad without Newman? Give me a break. Without Roy teams would rape us in the run game with no vasoline.

Facts. Whatever.

It's from the Cowboys site. Of course they're gonna say great things.

You think they're gonna mention things like "instrumental in allowing 2 comeback bombs to Moss in a loss to the Commanders," or "wiffed a key tackle on crucial 3rd and short in a playoff loss to Seahawks," or "failed to assist on long bomb to Burress, Moss, et al."

As I said, you take Roy, I'll stick w/Woodson or Harris —*REAL hall of fame caliber safeties.
