Roy Williams appreciation thread...

Facts. Whatever.

It's from the Cowboys site. Of course they're gonna say great things.

You think they're gonna mention things like "instrumental in allowing 2 comeback bombs to Moss in a loss to the Commanders," or "wiffed a key tackle on crucial 3rd and short in a playoff loss to Seahawks," or "failed to assist on long bomb to Burress, Moss, et al."

As I said, you take Roy, I'll stick w/Woodson or Harris —*REAL hall of fame caliber safeties.

^^Since when did Darren Woodson take down MVP running backs by himself in a playoff game??????

And give Roy the pass rush Darren had for most of his career. Can you do that?

You dont know what you are talking about. Roy is ALOT better than Darren Woodson ever was. Im sure thats not a popular statement to most Cowboy fans that are obsessed with "tradition" but i like saying what is true. Sorry

Dawkins just got beat for a TD right before the half.

Just saying, other safeties out there are getting beat for TDs everyday.

^^ Anybody who talks about him like hes a liability on the team is ********.

Are freaking serious?

He's NOT a liability?

You're gonna tell me that you're comfortable with him in pass coverage, one on one with Dallas Clark or Daniel Graham, in the SuperBowl, with 2 minutes to go against Manning or Brady?

Then, perhaps, you should look in the mirror.

hey incase you haven't noticed cliff and darren retired. so get over it!

Yeah Chief, I get it.

The point is that you guys say he's the greatest ever and I'm telling you he couldn't sniff their jocks.

Williams did not have a good game Sunday, it was average. I still refuse to count that interception, it was the end of the game and Green was taking every chance he could, Roy just got lucky...Roy had an average game....and for the money he is paid and what is expected of him thats not good enough. It would be different if he had been playing well and had one average game, but its the opposite, he has been playing porrly and had one average game. Lets not celebrate or claim he is back until he has atleast one good game and even then im going to be waiting for a follow up to say for sure...just my thoughts.

IMO, you've lost all football cred with that statement, and I'm sure 99.9% of Cowboys fans, INCLUDING Roy apologists, would concur.

^I would'nt be comfortable with ED REED one on one with Dallas Clark. Thats what kills me. People say "oh man Shockey owns Roy". Well if you dont get a pass rush and your safety is one on one on Jeremey Shockey, guess whats gonna happen?

My point here is that, again, you guys keep arguing that he's the greatest thing since the safety position was created, and I'm saying that as the GREATEST COWBOYS SAFTEY EVER shouldn't he be able to at least annoy an average to above average TE?

Isn't it logical that "All-World" should trump average?

I'm pretty sure Reed, Dawkins, Wilson, Harris - heck pick a safety - would be much closer to those TEs than Roy's typical 20 yard cushion.

When has Adrian Wilson ever guarded a tight end?

But anyway Roy does give a cushion to the tight ends and i dont like that. But thats the only part of his game that i have a problem with. As far as how he plays in space. Give him a pass rush and then talk to me.

That's what cracks me up - everyones always saying, "well, he's the best ever damnit, but he just can't cover."

He's a freaking safety! He MUST cover. You can't freaking hide him. It's key to the position.

I'd understand that argument if we were discussing Canty or Ratliff, but we're talking about a safety and, "the great one" at that.

^ I didnt say he could'nt cover. I said he has trouble playing man to man on the outside. But you know what? Im done discussing Roy on this site. If you cant see how much Roy affects the game positively for the Dallas Cowboys then i really dont know what to say. How many safeties get targeted by offensive linemen?lol

This is ridiculous man. A Safety frees up our linebackers and they STILL dont make that many plays. Roy is always cleaning up Bradie James and Akin Ayodeles messes. THATS A FACT!

Where in the heck are you getting this "everyones always saying he's the best ever" crap. EVERYONE is NOT saying that. That statement is just a stupid as the guy above who said Roy was better that Woodson. In fact I doubt there are very many of us that would say that. If that's what torquing your jaw you can relax. This was a thread to give Roy his due For yesterday's game. It's just too bad some folks can't resist dissing him even when he does well.

You're right I should restate it to, "Roy apologist are always saying he's the greatest"...LOL.

As I said in my first reply in this thread...he had a nice game. I admit it.

It was good to see. After all, like you, I'm a fan, and a win is all that really matters.

Roy's int was no more luck than the INT Romo threw last weeked. It appears to me that Roy was reading Green the whole way and almost appeared to be running up a bit to go after a scrambling QB. The throw by Green was not bad because it was being thrown to Ginn however he didn't see Roy running into the area. It was a great play by Roy, the defensive coaches put him in the position.
THe game was out of reach and the Fins were being aggressive with the ball. You see that alot at the end of games, careless throws that are picked off. I guess Roy's was different though.

Also, like last week he tried to bull rush a bigger player on a blitz and was stoned. His timing and technique is horrible in that aspect...not as bad as his coverage, but close.

I think my new favorite argument is that Roy Williams should get no credit for a QB throwing a bad pass. I hope those same people take away all credit given to the Ed Reeds and Troy Ps too. What weird logic? Do some of you even like the players on this team or root for them?

they expect roy to have a huge game everytime. which isn't fair but that's the way it goes. if we won the superbowl beating the pats 49-0 somebody would still complain about something

I agree I dont count TO's TD either because it was late in the game

and the Barber 40 yard TD run didnt count because the game was already won.

and lets take away Henrys' INT's while were at it because Green sucks

Posts like this are a moronic way of looking for any reason to bash a Cowboys player even if you have to make incredible stretches and looks like a flipping idiot to do it

Ahh, yea he had a nice td for the second week in a row and looks good next to Calvin Johnson. The worst thing that happened to our RW is having Darren Woodsen retire. He was his mentor and keep him in check. Personally, and Im just speculating, I dont think he puts in the time working on his game in the offseason. He played well against the Fish. Now, lets string some consistent play together for 8-9 games.

Point blank - When a player does good, give him credit and vice versa.

Carry on! :)
