Build a bridge Roy and get over it.

This team is lacking fire-in-the-belly, puke-at-the-thought-of-losing leaders and Roy would be a good candidate to step up and be guy like that. I'm not sure he has it in him, though. He seems more comfortable letting others take that role.

Troy Aikman. Who makes his teammates accountable?
Emmitt Smith. Who sets the goal of being the best who ever played the game?
James Washington. Who on this defense has a serious mean streak, is an overachiever and backs up his endless talk with big plays?
Erik Williams went into each Packers game with the mindset that he was going to take the great Reggie White and beat the crap out of him. For some reason, I don't think Flozell has that in him.
Nobody is denying the talent the early 1990s Cowboys had, but it's my opinion that the above-listed intangibles are what made the team great.
I'm not convinced this team has anything close to it. Terence Newman has tried to assert himself some recently and Romo could develop into a vocal leader.
Parcells cast such a huge, domineering shadow within the entire organization that perhaps it stunted the growth of vocal leadership among the players. Or maybe most of these players are just nice guys, waiting around for someone to tell them what to do. Or maybe it's both, but I see it as a missing ingredient right now -- something that is necessary to win a Super Bowl.

make some sense of this statement please?NextGenBoys;1620352 said:I've said it before, Roy Williams is the Vince Carter of the NFL. ...And thats not a compliment either, even if VC is my favorite player in the NBA.
you are preaching the gospel now...you keep telling the truth...I am sick and tired of all these guys looking around at the end of the year talking about how talented we are....so Jerry brings in Wade, a laid back coach...gives the team back to the players..and instead of them taking the reigns, they are b*tchn about a couple of guys being cut...I REALLY like Roy...look up any post from me and you will never find a thread where I criticize him...but he was a top 10 pick...which means he has gotten 2 nice bonuses..he has everything right in front of him to be a Cowboy for life, a defense that will feature him, a chance to be in the Ring of Honor..a chance to win a Super Bowl....a chance to be remembered as a leader of a Super Bowl team...and he runs from it...so maybe some of these other high priced guys that have been around for a while and that the team actually drafted (Witten, Ware, Newman, soon to be Romo) will step up and act like they appreciate wearing the star....and are embarassed about being associated with the longest playoff winning drought in this storied franchise history. This playoff winning drought is embarassing and there is enough talent here to END it.Chief;1620035 said:Michael Irvin. Who is the heart and soul of this team?
