I would dump him in a second - his performance v.s Seattle was an embarrassment to Scott Case , let alone the Dallas Cowboys

He does sux - in fact he's the most overrated , overpaid player in our History - the man cannot cover - simple as that - we've had to build a defense AWAY from him rather than AROUND him ..."Wade's gonna find a way to hide Roy" "Wade's gonna play to Roy's strengths" etc...
Roy has been brutal in big games.

Roy needs to improve his tackling, seen too many times where he whiffed last year. With help at FS (Hamlin), I think it will help him tremendously to do what he is good at, that is stopping the runs and perhaps sneaky blitz to sack QBs.

I'm going on record here , I LOVE ROY ( as a football player ) he is a human hi-lite reel. and the best thing we had in a long time on defense,( before D.ware was even thought about ) He brings the wood and is not affraid to lay it on the line, He didnt have a ( ROY ) great season last year but He still has my devotion as a Cowboy fan, I love you Roy and I hope you flourish in the system. Here's to all the naysayers :nono2:

What SAFETY in the NFL has a defense built AROUND THEM?

That's the most idiotic thing I've read in a long time.

Damn those coaches for playing the players to their strengths... why can't ALL players play great in ALL schemes? GEEZ!

Did this guy seriously just use a missed tackle and not being able to get off a block as a way to prove Roy was poor in coverage? wth

Normally, I would agree with you, but Roy was pretty bad at times last year. Poor angles, always trying to make the big play, he needs to have a big year this year.

most players who get burnt look pretty bad doing it, I don't recall ever seeing a good looking, busted play

and don't forget that Roy looked pretty good at times too

I agree. Roy is hell on wheels when he is allowed to play up close and can aggressively attack. He is not a 2 deep zone guy that does not mean he can't do better than he did at times last year but he is at his best when allowed to roam around the line of scrimmage.

I believe that he is, just even Brian Stewart pointed it out, we played a ridiculous amount of 2-deep coverage w/ our safeties last year, w/ Roy being back there most of the time because he was our best coverage safety, you are put in that position so many times, you are bound to get burnt, esp. when your pass-rush is bogged down

Look, I agree with you he's probably overpaid and he was overrated. However, right now everyone is so down on him right now that he's no longer overrated. How can he still be overrated when everyone who talks about him calls him a terrible cover safety. Roy has made his fair share of big plays in important games. He picked off McNabb to beat the Eagles on Monday Night. He stripped Brandon Jacobs and recovered the ball on the goal line in the 4th quarter vs the Giants in 2005. He picked off Delhomme in the 4th quarter after we got our first lead against them. He picked off Peyton Manning on the goal line. He also picked Hasselback in the playoffs and against them in 2005 (which should have led to a field goal and probably a win). He also tackled Gardner before he could get out of bounds to beat the Skins. I agree that he's not good in coverage but he has made his fair share of big plays, many of which were in important games.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a Grown Up Zone?

No flamers from other teams posing as 'Boys' fans.

Man the 70's team was lucky not to have the internet around back then or all these TV football gurus. Do people think guys like Cliff Harris or Charlie Waters were never beaten on plays? That they never gave up TD's? When you look at the overall player in Roy Williams the good and the bad I come to the conclusion that he brings more positives than negatives to this team.

Good point. I swear I saw Cliff Harris beaten by Lynn Swann in the 1978 SB but that can't be because only Roy Williams is beaten ;)

what most are forgetting is that Williams poor play even reached an area he has historically been strong...run support. He had multiple games were he just took horrible angles at the running backs who easily avoided him. His blitz attemps were embarrassing. It was as if he had a complete meltdown that affected all facets of his game. He didn't even closely resemble the player that he was his rookie season. Lets all just hope it was Parcells scheme and not something more serious like a complete break-down in confidence.

It's never Roy's fault. Despite how many times he constantly gets burned deep, misses tackles, takes horrible angles, gets faked out of his cleats by TE's and WR's.. nope, DEFINITELY not his fault!

Why would it be? I mean afterall, he's good ol' ROY!!!!! He can't do nothin' wrong, right? It's the coaches fault, they didn't play to his strengths! No wait, it was actually Anthony Henry's fault, he was supposed to be there! Plus the Free Safety sucks so Roy has to do EVERYTHING.. duh! Also, the pass rush sucks too! See, can't blame Roy!

I think it's great that every time he gets embarrassingly beat on a play he starts yelling at the refs and pointing at teammates. As a "leader" of the team, it really shows our young players that being accountable for your play on the field is last on your list of priorities as a player.

WHO ARE YOU TO DOUBT ROY WILLIAMS?

I said he was capable of doing better than he did but he did but he has given up some big plays back there, I agree lack of pass rush contributed to that at time but there also seemed to be a lot of mis-communication back there. Watching Roy when he 1st got to Dallas and his days at OU there are no doubt in my mind that Roy is at his very best when allowed to roam around the line of scrimmage.

Roy Williams will continued to get ripped by the media, bloggers, casual fans, zoners, and Madden champions alike until he proves that he can cover. He is yet to do that.

BINGO

plus he needs to cut down on the bad angles when missing tackles.

yeah, he struggles in all sorts of areas...thats why he makes pro bowls and is always at or near the top in safety ratings, even when done by league personnel people

David

Ah, its the old pro bowl argument when someone can't find a real way to defend a player...he makes pro bowls because of homeristic fans (including myself) who vote him in and casual fans who only watch the highlight reels.

So being in the pro bowl makes him great, does not getting into the pro bowl mean that Newman is bad?
