well if personal attacks are banned, they should add in ridiculously stupid posters

if your IQ is your age or lower, you shouldnt be allowed to post

that'd eliminate a few hundred people here

Personal attacks have never been allowed. You've been on the board long enough to know that.

I suggest you put whoever it is you think is stupid, ignorant, or ridiculous on ignore and go on your merry way.

I would rather have a player like Deon Grant at the FS position and have Ken Hamlin at the line of scrimmage... At least Hamlin can cover SOME.

That being said I still love Roy.

Another thing nobody seems to see: Roy has lost weight. He is also going to be playing close to the line of scrimmage, so wouldn't it have been better for him to keep the weight since he is going to probably be taking more punishment?

I hope this thread hasn't gone to hell and is still on topic.

Bad jokes should be punishable - nothing worse than a lame act OR a fan with Roy Williams blinders on.

The lack of knowledge of football on a football board is amazing to me. Seems some people want to look at a players performance in a vacuum. This is a team sport and how player A performs, will effect how player b performs. Roy has his faults, he is not a perfect player, but still one of the best SS in the league and anyone that don't see that, shouldn't be allowed to watch football anymore.

I think having an experienced FS this year will improve roy's game tremendously. It is very hard to play on your instincts when you are worried about the guy next to you. And if you don't think having subpar FS play has had an impact on how Roy plays, again, you shouldn't be allowed to watch football anymore.

The part of Roy's game that has me the most conerned is not his coverage but his running. As noted, he did take some bad angles at times. I personally think that was due to his size and not being as fast has he once was. You can't take the same angle at 245 as you do when you are 220.

Now that he is back down in weight, has someone to take some of the pressure off in Hamlin, as a group, the communication is much improved, and a more attacking defense, which will allow him to be proactive and not as reactive, I think we will see the Roy that will take the step forward from one of the best, to the best.

Ken Hamlin ranked at #17 in Success% last season.
Roy Williams ranked at #21 in Success% last season.
Pat Watkins ranked at #80 out of 81 safeties ranked.
Ed Reed ranked at #65 in Success% last season.

Too many of you people act like Roy gave up a reception every single time they threw at him. Fact is, Roy wasn't NEAR as bad as some of you guys say. Its just that when people don't know what the hell they are looking at... they see 1 play all game where Roy gave up a reception and think he had an awful game.

Roy now weighs about 221 pounds. There are LBers that don't weigh much more than that. Weight isn't everything... its entirely possible to keep every bit of your strength and power and lose 10 pounds of unneeded weight.

All of our defensive players have lost weight... its a good thing!

Great points all, but I don't really like to use those metrics, especially if they are Joyners, because players like Ed Reed and Sean Taylor get penalized for blown coverages of Samari Rolle and whoever the Commanders have playing CB. They get penalized for the players coming into their zone and having blown the coverage although it was obviously somebody elses bad coverage job on the play. I personally like to watch the players themselves instead of trusting metrics.

I have seen Ed Reed numerous times and I know for a fact he can cover when he wants; its just that he is so overzealous and hungry for the big play he bites on a good play action and tries to put himself in play for an int instead of a defensed pass. (he is actually on thin ice now; if he doesn't play within Rex Ryans scheme this year they are threatening to bench him.) Same with Roy Williams to a point; I think he can cover WR's much better than he can cover tight ends... I don't think he will ever get better at that.

Don't think I am saying Ken Hamlin is so much better than Roy. But Hamlin was a leader back there in Seattle, putting people into position and such. Roy is a great player but he is not that type of player or leader however you put it.

I watch alot of football... I am not going to post a idea de jour just because somebody else posted as such. And I am not really bashing Roy just becuase I have a viewpoint that is not 1000 percent Cowboy.

By the way, teams are going to move the TE around and have roy forced to cover the TE on third downs when he moves to LB to create a mismatch. I would be shocked if a team doesn't try that on us by week 4. Just a thought.

there are people posting in this forum multiple times daily, that make fans at ExtremeSkins seem downright genius

we have a a team loaded with good young players and a franchise loaded with great history, but we have one of the most ignorant fan bases anywhere in sports

only in here can you see fans actually HOPE one of our OWN guys fails so they can have some sick satisfaction...and it isnt just with RW

David

How are people being critical of things that Roy does every week ignorance? It's ignorant to think that he is the greatest safety ever. It is ignorant to assume that people HOPE he fails...nobody wants him to fail.

It is when they continue to spout out the same garbage that's been proven wrong on a daily basis on this board. It's a fairly common occurrence.

It's ignorant to think that he is the greatest safety ever.

THAT would truly be ignorant. However, I've yet to see anyone say as much. Exaggerate much?

While YOU might not hope that he fails, I've seen several posters on here express their desire to see Williams be "exposed for what he truly is"...

Get off your high horse

Funny you should say that.

YAR! you blow
:laugh2: Dunno why that made me laugh, but it did...

I don't get the whole Roy argument. It seems to have to do with the whole "overrated" concept. Why difference does it make how he or any other player is "rated" by fans? The guy is a darn good player, one of the best SSs in the game. Isn't that all that matters?

How can you prove that Roy isn't slow? Doesn't take bad angles? Doesn't miss tackles?

Exaggeration is for emphasis, everyone does it...

I don't remember seeing anyone saying that they hope he plays badly, but these posters must truly not want to see the Boys win. Any true fan would not want him to play bad.

How can you tell me to get off my high horse. Never have I said that someone shouldn't be allowed to post for being stupid or ridiculus or made personal attacks of the like simply for having an opinion different than my own. Posters who do that are on a serious ego trip if you ask me.

The whole "overrated" concept in itself is pretty amusing. It seems, as in Williams case, that many of these guys with this label have become "underrated." I mean, when was the last time you've heard ANYONE (other than a Dallas fan) say that Williams was a great player?

The simple fact is, as Adamjt13 has pointed out several times, Williams makes it to Hawaii based on performance...not just his rep or his "big hits".

It's so weird to me. Let's say that on a totally objective scale, a player is an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. There's a group of fans out there that seem to take it as a personal offense if the player is called a 9 instead. But what difference does it make?

Not talking about Junk here, as he is a very reasonable poster. But it aggravates some posters to no end if a player is "overrated". I truly don't get it.

I can't. I wouldn't necassarily call him "slow", but he's certainly not blazing fast...few strong safeties are.

He does take some bad angles. He does miss some tackles. Again, so does every single safety in the league. Some more than others *cough* Taylor *cough*. Williams unlike most, however, also makes big plays to counter that. Sometimes I think many of the posters on this board need to switch teams for a week...see how the other half live, so to speak.

Exaggeration is for emphasis, everyone does it...

I know...but that was quite an exaggeration.

I recall a few, not many, but they're out there. It seems his detractors are a fair bit more dramatic about the whole issue...they tend to exaggerate more.

I didn't. It just seems ironic that you told the other poster to do so for expressign his opinion. I guess I didn't find his post to be as offensive as you did.

...and I agree. Ego trips are far more prevalent than admissions on this and any other messege board. Sadly.

I'd appreciate if you could find it, because I find it hard to believe that someone would say that honestly.

I wasn't telling him to get off the high horse for his opinion, he can love RW all he wants. I said it because he put down others for having a different opinion. Huge difference.
