Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring interviewed Sunday to become the new defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State, two sources said.
No formal agreement was reached, according to the sources. OSU coach Mike Gundy could not be reached for comment. A school spokesman declined comment.
Herring joined the Cowboys' staff last February. He's spent most of his professional career in the college ranks. His fiery demeanor made him a legend among coaching circles and landed him on YouTube.
He was Arkansas' defensive coordinator from 2005 to 2007 and served as the team's interim head coach prior to the 2008 AT&T Cotton Bowl.
In the days leading up to the Cotton Bowl, Herring accepted a similar position as Texas A&M's defensive coordinator. About one month later, Herring left A&M for the Cowboys.
OSU's previous defensive coordinator, Tim Beckman, left to become the head coach at Toledo.
