Rumor: Cowboys interested in LaVar Arrington ***MERGED***

I heard it early this morning, that the Dallas Cowboys are interested into hometown Washington Commanders linebacker.

1500 said according to a San Antonio News source that Cowboys seems to be interest in Outside Linebacker Lavar Arrington.
They said since the Cowboys released Larry Allen, the Dallas Cowboys freed up some cap space to get in the bidding sweepstakes for Lavar, and a schedule visit didn't get schedule yet, but stay tuned.

I surely hope he signs as a Cowboys as well as Charles Woodson or get another first round and move up and get Michael Huff as a safety...
I'm not opposed to LeVar, but I heard on ESPN he wants $6 Million a year. That seems steep given his recent production.

You have Parcells working with him now.. So Parcells could use him like he did Lawrence Taylor...

It'd be great to have a matching set of douchebags, one on O (T.O.) and one on D (L. A.). Arrington thinks he's the 2nd coming of Derrick Thomas and prefers to follow his own instincts about which direction a play will be coming from. That's why he sometimes makes spectacular plays and why he also so often gets caught of position really badly. I just can't see BP not having an aneurysm after Arrington has blown 3 plays in a row.

Arrington is, and has never been anything like LT

other than wearing the same number, thats it

Arrington would be a great addition but...

1) He seems to despise the Cowboys, almost to the point of refusing to play for them.
2) The Postons.

This is obviously the same report from the other thread. He is visiting the Jags I believe today. I won't believe it till I see it.

Love to have him here. We would be the most feared team from our LB spot. Just blitz Ware or LA, whichever one doesnt have the TE on that side. Hell send both once in awhile. Could you imagine the fear QB would have playing us?

Really.. People just don't know that this would benefit Cowboys now and down the line with a young linebacker core.. I would love to see Lavar Arrington in a star.. He could become a extremely feared playmaker under Parcells supervision...

a descent offer from the Commanders is quite a HEFTY offer from any other team, wouldt you say.

Now that's a point where i ask myself: man if Lavar turns down a decent offer from the deadskinz doesn't show that that he mybe dislikes this organisation and doesn't want to stay there?

:laugh2:

Problem is, Arrington doesn't seem to be too interested in playing for the Boys... he was REAL clear about that, a week or so back...

They said since the Cowboys released Larry Allen, the Dallas Cowboys freed up some cap space to get in the bidding sweepstakes for Lavar, and a schedule visit didn't get schedule yet, but stay tuned.

Seems those boys aren't real bright, since the Boys had PLENTY of cap room to pursue Arrington BEFORE they cut Allen...

I'd prefer to have Chris Claiborne, or maybe Keith Newman, anyway...

Yeah, I cant understand Arrington. First, he said he grew up being a Dallas Cowboy fan. Yet, after being cut from Commanders, he said he wanted to stay in nfl east, but not for the Cowboys. So, go figure!

He wouldn't get #56 in Dallas unless he bought it from James.

When he signs or if he signs he could afford the number 56... 1500 says that they hope that Cowboys don't sign a hometown linebacker.. but I say why not the Commanders sign Tony Dixon and Demetric Evans...

A guy at Extremeskins.com claiming to be a scout says Jax will be it...

A old friend of mine on the Jaguars' coaching squad told me tonight that LaVar Arrington is flying in to Jacksonville sometime this week to engage in contract talks with the team. He said that HC Jack Del Rio, who is a former Pro-Bowl linebacker with the Vikings, is enamored with Arrington.

I can't say I have any love the man that fired me from the organization, but I do think that JDR has the right idea in going after Arrington. The Jaguars are in severe need of a good OLB, and with a top-10 defense that includes players like Mike Peterson at MLB, Big John Henderson and Marcus Stroud as lineman, Reggie Hayward, Rashean Mathis, and Donovin Darius - you can see why a player with Arrington's potential (I said potential) could push the Jaguars over the top.

As a scout, I was lucky to get the opportunity to see Arrington play in the Alamo Bowl back in 1999. I remember turning to Rick Davis, the head college scout for the Jags, and saying that this was the next LT we had been looking for for all of this time. LaVar hasn't really lived up to those expectations, but he has had a fairly productive career with the Skins, despite spending time under the tutelage of more than a few defensive coordinators and LB coaches.

What are you thoughts, as fans, about LaVar coming to Jacksonville? Most of you know much more about Arrington as a player than I do, having watched him grow from a rookie to a six-year veteran with the Commanders. What do you think about his potential with this current Jaguars squad?

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

Stephen Hodge

Akin Adoyele
Mike Vanderjagt
Rocky Boiman
Kyle Koiser
Lavar Arrington<Would be nice to add him too...

The thing I don't get is who would be lining up to give $6M/year to a guy who his own team sat for 5 games last year, has a potentially degenerative knee condition that has limited his play the last two seasons, has only one season of double-digit sacks and has a reputation for being a freelancer.

Now I have painted a negative picture but I think we would do well to stay out of a bidding war for his services. If we were to sign him, I would give him a long-term deal with about $5M SB and 1 year salary of $1M but then next year he can have a $10M roster bonus (convertible into a salary bonus) if he plays well. That would be a good way of hedging our bets if he is not capable of performing at a Pro Bowl level at OLB.

Anyhow, ultimately I think we are probably better off just drafting one of the top OLBs in this draft as there should be plentry of good ones available in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Pittsburgh has made a living off of drafting OLBs at such slots.

Pittsburgh has made a living out of drafting them out of the 3rd-5th rounds.

I expect him to sign today with either the Dolphins or Jaguars. My money would be on the Dolphins. I'm glad we're showing interest in many of these players.

Im feeling that you might just be right.. but did he go to Cinncinati yet?

I know that him traveling and getting phone calls, one of those phone calls might be Jerry saying he sending his plane to Florida to pick up Arrington just like Synder did.

I know Synder giving Jerry Jones tips on how to lure Arrington in...:laugh1: :star:
