Rumor: Cowboys make offer for Miami's Beck?

So far today I have chased two rumors that continue to persist and I am ready to report to you the first is true, the second is not.

It is true the Dallas Cowboys are mildly, and I do stress mildly, interested in quarterback John Beck. The Cowboys have winked, hand-signaled, called or e-mailed the Dolphins (however it is they do it) that they would be willing to part with a low-round draft pick for the second-year player.

There have been persistent rumors the Dolphins are planning a uniform change this year. That is simply NOT true. The stuff about them going to silver pants and aqua helmets is just bunk.

The only change to Miami's uniform pattern of any significance is that the aqua pants will be added back to go with the white jerseys during road games. You saw that change in the opening road game of the preseason against Jacksonville.

So no uniform change. As I joked with a Dolphins official, that rumor is stomped like a bug.

Beck'll be traded for good player who might otherwise be cut, I'm guessing. Allan Ball or James Marten, maybe?

That's the route I would go.

It would probably look better for Miami anyway, rather than looking like they turned a 2nd round draft pick into a 7th rounder.

Omar kelly, dolphin beat writer was on Orlando Alzaguary's show this morning and said Dallas hasn't even picked picked up the phone to call miami. He said we would wait until he was cut. He also said miami is inclined to keep 4 QB's, which makes no sense. Beck has no trade value at all.

Maybe just make the first two dolphins have the logo, and the third one could have a tiny 'M', just to save time trying to design and print through an infinite loop.

The Dolphin logo has to be the stupidest logo in sports now that the Bucs have redesigned uniforms. It's so stupid, nobody even pays attention to it anymore and it's become iconic.

Personally, I think they should go with an all silver helmet with a blowhole on top. That'd be awesome.

Betting on Beck


The Miami Herald reports the Cowboys are willing to part with a low-round draft pick to acquire second-year Dolphins QB John Beck.


Although the Dolphins and Cowboys have talked about Beck, insiders say the Cowboys really aren't willing to part with a draft pick for Miami's 2007 second-round pick.


But you can count on this: If the Dolphins keep Josh McCown over Beck as their No. 2 guy behind Chad Pennington (remember the Dolphins also have 2008 second-round pick Chad Henne), the Cowboys won't waste any time grabbing Beck off waivers.


Although Brad Johnson bounced back from his horrible outing in San Diego with a solid performance in Denver, he lacks the mobility and arm strength to survive in a division filled with blitz-heavy teams. The Cowboys need to get younger in a hurry at QB and Beck seems like a good candidate to groom as a long-term backup to Tony Romo.
