Donovan McNabb seems like a nice guy. You'd hate to see something like this happen to him. Getting shipped to the Detroit Lions is like getting sent to Leavenworth. But that's the rumor that's being circulated, both in the Ann Arbor News and in Miami during Super Bowl festivities, that the Eagles could send McNabb to the Lions for the second overall pick in the draft, and in turn use that pick for Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

McNabb will speak publicly for the first time since his November knee injury today, and he might be asked about the vocal minority of Eagles fans who would like to see him sent packing. We already know McNabb has some gripes. Would the Eagles really want to get rid of him and build the franchise around a rookie?

That seems highly unlikely. The Eagles could be a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2007, and bringing in a rookie quarterback would be a rebuilding move. The real story here may be how hungry NFL fans are for any kind of information about their teams. The Eagles have been out of it for two weeks, and the Lions have been out of it for six years. Fans of both teams just want to hear something juicy, and McNabb to the Lions definitely fits.

McFlubb for the #2 overall? Seems a little high for me. He just turned 30 so he has a few years left. Detroit hasn't has a good QB in so long maybe they consider this a better move rather than risk the pick.

Stupid rumor. A first pick is even stretching it. Garcia was a nice stop gap player, but he has very few years left and has been very inconsistent over the years.

Heck, wouldn't it be better for the Lions to just hire Garcia for a year and draft Quinn themselves?

I would usually say "stranger things have happened"......but in this case..I just don't see this happening.

You're kidding, right? Only has a few years left? Elite QBs play at a high level into their mid-30s.

He's only 30, but when was the last time he actually finished a season? When he was 28? The Eagles would love to rid themselves of McNabb and get their QB of the future. And sorry, I don't buy the 'super bowl contenders' argument for a second. They won 10 games with a last place schedule in a weak conference. One of these days, that window is going to close.

I don't think he's worth the #2 pick overall. But we talking about the Lions here. They'll probably throw in Roy Williams and Shawn Rogers to make the deal happen.:rake:

NO I am not kidding. Do you know how to subtract? If he plays to his mid-30's and he is 30 now let's see that means......oh yea he has a few years left. Exactly what I said.

How long has it been since Detroit had a truly good qb?

Bobby Layne?

I think the last time a Lions QB was in the Pro-Bowl was Greg Landry in 1971. It was his only Pro-Bowl appearance.

I thought Scott Mitchell might have been in 1995 when he threw for over 4000 yards but not with Aikman, Young, Favre, and Moon (who was with the Vikings that year) ahead of him.

Bobby Layne went to 5 Pro-Bowls (4 as Lion) but his last full season in Detroit was the year before I was born so it's been my lifetime since the Lions had a truly good QB.

1957 was also their last championship. Pretty sad, it must suck to be a Lions fan. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :lmao2: :lmao: :laugh2: :laugh1:

Didnt the Lions owner say THEY WILL BE CONTENDERS next year, or was that a different team im thinking of? Not saying Mcnabb will make them contenders but better than brady quinn/russel

McNabb would certainly be an instant upgrade and he should have at least another 4-5 years in him at a high level.

He may not even return form his knee injury until half way through next season and who knows how he would recover from that?

If the Lions were a team one player away from a championship, maybe, but they are a bad, rebuilding team, that would be an idiotic trade (if the rumor is true) for the Lions to give up the #2 pick for an aging, injured QB.

Then again, Matt Millen is still there so I wouldn't be shocked.

What difference would it make, the Lions will probably waste that pick on a WR anyway. :laugh2:

Sounds like "connect the dots" conjecture to me.

Just like the Vick for Moss/Porter rumor a week ago.

Besides, Reid loves Donovan, I can't see him ever getting rid of him. I think their careers and legacies are intertwined.

I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down. No way does this trade happen. Even Andy Reid has said recently that Donovan is their man.
