Rumor: Donovan McNabb to the Lions for Second Overall Pick?

Personally, I think it would be a great deal for both teams.

Detroit? Drafting a rookie QB isn't going to make them a playoff contender...they have a young rusher, young and talented WR's, and were solid enough to be playing well at the end of the year and of course, defeat the Cowboys in a game that meant something to us. Add McNabb, a veteran who would be throwing to the best WR's he's seen in his career short of the ProBowl, and Detroit just may gain instant credibility.

Philly? They have the talent to win a divisional title without McNabb, maybe they have concerns about his injury, maybe they have concerns about peace on a team that may have Garcia starting when the season begins...what if Garcia leads them to a 3-0 start or something...why have the headaches? You have Garcia to run the show while you groom another franchise QB of the future.

For Detroit, the deal is best over the next 3-4 years...much better than drafting a young QB.

For Philly, the deal is best after the next 1-2 years when they'll have another young, hopefully successful QB for the next 10 years.

Donovan McNabb seems like a nice guy. You'd hate to see something like this happen to him. Getting shipped to the Detroit Lions is like getting sent to Leavenworth. But that's the rumor that's being circulated, both in the Ann Arbor News and in Miami during Super Bowl festivities, that the Eagles could send McNabb to the Lions for the second overall pick in the draft, and in turn use that pick for Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

McNabb will speak publicly for the first time since his November knee injury today, and he might be asked about the vocal minority of Eagles fans who would like to see him sent packing. We already know McNabb has some gripes. Would the Eagles really want to get rid of him and build the franchise around a rookie?

That seems highly unlikely. The Eagles could be a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2007, and bringing in a rookie quarterback would be a rebuilding move. The real story here may be how hungry NFL fans are for any kind of information about their teams. The Eagles have been out of it for two weeks, and the Lions have been out of it for six years. Fans of both teams just want to hear something juicy, and McNabb to the Lions definitely fits.

At first I dismissed this as a stupid rumor.
Who in their right mind would trade the 2nd pick for McNabb?
Then I realized it was the Lions and now I think this will happen soon!

Matt Millen and the Kitty Kats have done so many stupid things over the last 5 years that this would not even be in the top 5. It is true that they just might have pretty much a very solid Offense- but their D is not good. They could outscore people but cannot stop anyone. that is not the way you win much in the NFL. But when you consider millen and company, its certainly possible. It is either this or they draft Johnson.

You also failed to discuss McNabb's injury and that he may not even play until week 8 or 9 next year and the Lions are a 3-13 team with many holes, McNabb wouldn't instantly make them a contender even if he comes back %100 from his injury.

I think it would be an idiotic deal for the Lions who have a horrid O-Line amongst other problems....who says they would take a QB at #2 anyway?

It is either this or they draft Johnson.

why not Joe Thomas?

Because as long as the Moron Millen is running things they will keep doing incredibly stupid things like drafting one WR after another. 3 First rd picks on WRs and only one has worked.

NO I am not kidding. Do you know how to subtract? If he plays to his mid-30's and he is 30 now let's see that means......oh yea he has a few years left. Exactly what I said.

Mike Martz commented at the Senior Bowl that Detroit needed everything, except QB.

I don't believe this rumor at all. Besides, I don't see McNabb as a good triggerman for Martz' offense.

Stupid rumor. A first pick is even stretching it. Garcia was a nice stop gap player, but he has very few years left and has been very inconsistent over the years.

Hence the Quinn pick.

I sure hope this is not true. I'm a big Notre Dame fan, and fan of Quinn. Seems like every top ND QB goes to a team I hate.

Theismann-Commanders
Montana-49ers
Quinn-Eagles???????

Could it get any worse than that? There is no way I could hate three teams like I hate those three.

It always hurt to see Montana as a 49r; I was only able to cheer for him without limits when he was with the Chiefs. Never liked Theisman so it did not matter he went to the skins.

No way! I want McNabb in this division for as long as possible. You can always count on him to throw that key interception or make that poor decision that costs his team the game. No way I want Philly rebuilding with a Brady Quinn type quarterback.

McNabb signed a 10 year contract, here's hoping he plays it out and then some for the Philadelphia Eagles.

You do realize that he is 11-4 against us and has put some of the worst beat-downs on us in the last 8 years.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go away.

i really doubt this happens but it would certainly be very interesting if it happened... Could possibly be a very good trade for both teams...

Sorry but Brady Quinn is not even close to being as good as the QB's that were drafted this year. He has an erratic throwing motion as if he is throwing a baseball pitch and he is a little slow in reading defenses. He is the default high draft QB this year. Maybe if I was getting the #2 overall last year, I would consider making this move. I like McNabb but his injuries are a concern.

why not Joe Thomas?

according to reports, he's way ahead of schedule, and he expects to be out there on opening day...no guarantees, but that's from his own mouth.
