Broncos | Team to trade up in draft
Fri, 27 Apr 2007 10:30:36 -0700
Neil Stratton, of Inside the League, has learned that the Houston Texans, as previously rumored, will swap first-round draft picks in this year's NFL Draft with the Denver Broncos Friday, April 27, in exchange for the Broncos' second-round pick, No. 56 overall. The Broncos would select Mississippi LB Patrick Willis.

Houston would be screwing themselves out of value about 120pts in value. (equivalent to a late 2nd round pick 31st overall)

If you are a fan of trading up to get Peterson, and he gets to at least #7 Dallas now has to trade up to

#7 Minnesota
#8 Atlanta
#9 Miami
#11 San Fran

I dont know if any of this is possible, but if all DENVER GAVE UP WAS A 2ND, then maybe it cheapens the price to move up, but do any of these teams want to move down to #22?

If AD reaches to the 10 spot I think Dallas will make a move to get him. I'd give up MBIII, Julius Jones and Polite and throw in a months supply of ESPN the magazine...

:laugh2:

I don't know about all that...

besides, we all know ESPN the magazine ain't worth anything (unless you use it for the fireplace). I would reject that trade just cause you threw that in there :)

The last few years there have been trades that haven't matched the point value. Jerry said in his press conference that the draft pick value sheet is getting antiquated and outdated.

Interesting. the Broncos are very aggressive. They are sort of like the Skins but make a little better decisions....maybe by taking advantage of the Skins helps.

If I was Dallas, I wouldn't committ to a trade until that team is on the clock. I like the players at 22. I don't think they will be top 5 players at their position, but I think there are 6-8 guys I would be thrilled with at 22. AD is the only guy who I would trade picks for. If he isn't there, then I am fine with just taking your BPA at 22.

wait so can Peterson fall to #12?

There was a decent chance IMO that even if he fell to the Texans they weren't going to take him anyway.

I do like Revis a lot, I like him better than Leon Hall.
I am not sure if I would want to trade up for him, maybe. It would have to be pretty cheap.

A guy on another site said said cold pizza reported that it was:

Denvers 1st (21) , 3rd (86) and next years 2nd

For

10th overall.

That would be a little more balanced chartwise but who knows right now. Gotta say though. Giving up only a 3rd this year isn't that bad to move up 10 spots.

I just hope we don't draft the "man of glass" Adrian Peterson.

I would completely freak if we got Adrian Peterson (in a good way). But we all know that won't happen. We stay put at #22 most likely.

Honestly, Adrian would be better than the ever-so-fragile Julius Jones.

Yeah, Jerry said with the salary cap and the amount that the top picks get that those old values don't hold up anymore.

If Houston did indeed make this trade, it's probably because they want Staley (OT) and figure that Thomas and Brown will be gone already by 10. Or, perhaps they like Staley as much as Brown and figure they can move back and still get him.

Either way, this way they insure the ability to trade back and get their OT and not be stuck at the 10th pick and have to take him there.

I dunno... that's really the only reason I can see Houston doing this right now.

If this is true, it's good news for Dallas if they're looking to move up in round 1 for their "wow" player. That'll lower overall values a little bit.

Denver did this same sort of thing a couple of years ago with the 'Skins, moving a 1st round pick a couple of days before the draft.

They must be pretty sure whoever they want will be there at #10, then.

That is what I am saying, if that is it we should have pulled this move.
I am pissed off if this is true and Peterson gets to #10.

I would be shocked if he is there at 10. I still think he could go to the Browns.

Who's to say that Denver won't take Peterson or Revis.. they love RB's and they need a corner.

They must. Likely, they have about 3 or 4 guys who they really like at 10 and figure one of them has got to be there.

They're sort of in the same position we are in: Rather have fewer picks that have a better chance of cracking a talented line up (ie "bundle" up) than more picks. I think it is a very good idea and hope we do the same if there is a player there that we really think can make an impact.

I have a friend who is a die hard Bronco fan who says he is watching the Broncos pre-draft press conference live right now, and the asked Shannahan about any trade, and he told them they will have to wait until tomorrow to see.

Exactly. They may have Willis pegged right now, but if Peterson slips, I see them jumping all over him.

Right.

I mean, we can't keep counting on a RB who is facing surgery to have a steel plate welded to his collarbone to prevent repeated injury . . .

oh, wait . . .
