RUMOR MILL | Anyone hear where Jon Gruden says he wants to be Cowboys OC?

I think Gruden would make a great HC in the college ranks. He could make more money and have better job stability. He has that rah rah thing that Pete Carroll has and it seems that players love that. They love a HC thats not only the biggest mentor, but biggest fan. I remember seeing him @ senior bowl practices. You could tell he loved coaching up these kids.

Gruden seems to be intrigued with college football. If the right program calls I doubt he takes an NFL OC job.

Anyone noticed all the "My friend said" or "A buddy texted me that" threads lately that are completely bogus?
Dang near 100% of the time.

When CowboyJoe posts them it is 100% of the time, either he is just posting his wishes or he needs to find a new friend

I want Gruden to be head coach, team manager, rah-rah guy before I put him in charge of my offense

that crap he pulled with the 4/5 QBs was bogus

I watched the episode earlier today, well, had it running in the background while playing a vid game, but still... I am pretty sure that Gruden did NOT say anything like being a coach for the Cowboys... I'd have snapped to for something like that. I like Gruden, and that would have gotten my attention in a big hurry.

If it's Garrett as HC, Gruden as OC, and someone else young and fresh as DC, then maybe...? I wouldn't be horribly opposed. I just do not like Gruden having decisions over personnel and over coaching.

I would freaking love that.

I'm not so thrilled about the Wildcat as a main offensive weapon, but if we can run it 5-7 times per game and get decent yardage, by all means.

Guys, it doesn't matter who the coach is ... Jerry Jones runs the show.

So don't get your diapers wet over what Gruden supposedly said.

Everything you post is perfectly in line with your sig.

Heck I could deal with Gruden as OC, even under Wade Phillips. Not as good as Shanahan in my books, but still better than Garrett.

Even with Gruden, another year of StayPuff is just depressing.:(

Lol. I wish we could go back to the achives after the 07 playoff game. Everybody and their mama was riding Garretts jock. He is the same now as he was then.

No "professional" coach would gun for another coaches job over the public airways.

Getting the OC position half way through the season helps Gruden get the HC position by next season if he helps turn things around. He also knows the DC and OC are both equal level on this team.

He knows Garrett's job is vulnerable right now and $3 million is nothing to sneeze at when you're the OC of the Dallas Cowboys. He's no fool Gruden. Getting his foot in the door if this is true.

I cant see any scenario where there's a new OC here this season. It rarely happens anywhere. Sometime's you see a team demote a playcaller for someone on staff, but I cant think of a single instance where someone from outside was brought in with an entirely different system during a season.

Gruden offenses over the years:

2008- 19th pts, 14th yds
2007-18th pts, 18th yds
2006-31st pts, 29th yds
2005- 20th pts, 23rd yds
2004- 23rd pts, 22nd yds
2003- 18th pts, 10th yds
2002- 18th pts, 24th yds (won super bowl)

By the way, in the two yrs before Gruden arrived in Tampa, the Bucs finished 15th and 6th in pts scored.

In Oakland, here are Gruden's numbers:

2001- 4th pts, 7th yds
2000- 3rd pts, 6th yds
1999- 8th pts, 5th yds
1998- 22nd pts, 18th yds

Other than a couple of years, there's really not that much to get excited about with him.

Gruden-OC
Shanny, Holmgren, or Cowher-HC
Nice.
We'll need a DC too though.

He also didn't have near this much talent in either of those teams.

It also happens to be accurate, as unfortunate as that may be. Jerry Jones is a disease that is rotting away at this team.

Hell, I'd even lobby for my grandmother as OC if it got Garrett out of there...

Wow, really?

And even if he didn't, none of that is on him? He was at Tampa for seven years!

But good research, David. Do the Chuckie faces override all that, though?

Holmgren HC
Gruden OC
Mike Nolan DC

I like Mike Nolan and I think he's a heck of a DC but I don't know how we would get him in Dallas. He's already a DC so it would be latteral. NFL doesn't allow for that.

Probably the only way would be as Head Coach.
