Here's how Stephen can swing this.

Redo the Owens deal, 1 year left with and a Cap # of about 9mil I'm guessing. Give him four years 36 mil. 12 mil SB. 2008-2011. Here's what the annual cap #'s could look like: 2008 5mil 2009 8mil 2010 10mil 2011 13mil

This move would actually save us about 4mil in 2008 cap space.

Now we can turn around and offer Moss the identical contract.
Four years 36 mil 12 mil SB.

My only question is if this is a big enough contract for Moss.

Has any player ever came to visit Valley Ranch that Jerry really wanted, that he did not get?

I cannot think of one. Jerry could sell Milk to a Cow.

Yeah, can you imagine the fight over the #81?

Who's the original #81?

That story would live all season long!

You remind me of the media, all ways thinking negative, and predicted negative things happening to your team.... These players is more mature than you think, these are grown men we are talking about, not some high school kids trying to get the same jersey number as the favorite athlete.
Randy Moss never been the type to fight over a number, look at Oakland, and Patroits, Vikings I might add. 84-18-81.... 18 IN DALLAS? OR WHAT?

And...

If Moss signs with the Cowboys, he probably already had a talk with Jerry Jones (i.e. Terrell Owens who had a bad boy rep in the NFL). To be honest I see Terrell Owens as the most honest player in the league and that's something that the NFL can't accept, honesty. Why do you think coaches get fined for expressing their freedom of speech about the referees lousy calling? But overall Terrell Owens came to Dallas with a positive attitude and most of all will and want to win.

I believe Randy Moss wants the same thing Terrell Owens want. To Win A SUPERBOWL. I believe once Moss is onboard and assuming that everyone stays healthy and focused I believe MOSS AND OWENS will have their first superbowl ring and probably focus on getting more rings and bonding with one another. A football team is a family.

Most of all, I don't care how people look at Terrell Owens when he was crying in the press confrence talking about Romo, that goes to show you he's found his quarterback which every great wide receiver have one (i.e. Troy Aikman/Michael Irvin, Steve Young/Jerry Rice, Roger Staubach/Drew Pearson, etc.) but the difference between Romo and these quarterbacks if Randy Moss signs? Romo would have more weapons than any quarterback ever had including hisself.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Randy Moss is "inching closer to the point of frustration" over the lack of contract progress with the Patriots.
We've seen this before, when Adam Vinatieri sat on the market, trying to convince teams he may not stay a Patriot. Other teams may be leery of being a pawn in negotiations, and only a few franchises have the cash and team to make sense. Philadelphia, Denver, Washington, and possibly Green Bay seem like the best fits to us. Dallas doesn't have the cap room.

Dallas can easily make room under the cap if they wanted to.
It's all about upfront money and it can work. I don't think Jerry
is worried to much with the cap going away after a couple of years.

If the Commanders can do it year in and year out, so can Jerry.

You just know this has to temp Jerry. He has a team here on the brink. If there is one player that could put this team over the top, it is Moss. Adding Moss would make this offense absolutely sick, and he still has TWO first round picks in the draft.

Jerry is a heck of an owner. And beyond that, he is the Cowboys number one fan (no offense CC), he absolutely wants the Cowboys to win and always is trying to make us better. And absolutely beyond those two points, Jerry is one hell of a businessman. Can you imagine the interest that would be generated if he landed Moss, what this would do for the Cowboys as a business? Sick again!

I don't know how we do it given our cap space right now, and what we have comming as far as players up for contract this and the following seasons. But, if you think this team has a shot to do it all (and how can he or anyone not), then you have to really take a long and serious look at what it takes to get Moss signed here.

Man, this is going to be a great topic until Moss actually signs a contract.

As it is right now Moss is 31 and TO is 34 and will turn 35 next season.

I think extending TO another season is a good move. It will accomplish two things.

A) Lower his cap charge for this year.
B) Keep him happy.

Now the obvious downside to signing Moss is that it would decrease our cap flexibility. We do have Newman's contract coming up and Ware's the following year. Given that I am not sure that signing Moss is feasible and if we would have to give up Newman or Ware to get Moss then its an obvious no brainer.

At the same time i would be VERY surprised if Owens was still being paid by us after two more years. He will be 37 and I doubt we will pay him the amount of money he will want.

Given that, it may be possible to work out a deal such that Moss' deal would cost less against the cap for the first two years and then go up once TO is off the books.

Now it maybe that the Cowboys are counting on Owens to come off the books to resign Ware and Newman but I definitely think its possible to get Moss.

I've always said when Jerry wants a player or wants to keep a player he always seems to make it happen.

God I would LOVE Moss here!

Let's say we do sign Moss and draft Owen Schmitt (in case Cricket isn't quite ready for the start of next season)

Starters

QB: Romo
RB: Barber
FB: Schmitt
WR: TO, Moss
TE: Witten

You can't double Moss, TO, and Witten......but if you do, that leaves only 5 in the box for Barber to use and abuse, especially with Schmitt blocking for him.

Before we go crazy here. Offense was not our problem. Defense was. Moss and Owen would be a Madden fantasy but most likely a nightmare in reality. Unless we throw the ball 40+ per game and get the ball to each 5-10 times each. Neither would be happy. Unless we go 18-0, every loss and any unhappy Moss/Owen will rip up the locker room and Dallas becomes a media circus.

In reality, we don't need Moss. It's a nice thought. We need CB's, WR, RB and DT in the draft. If some 2ndary FA that fits the system like Hamlin last yr, by all mean. We don't need to overpay nor screw up our cap in the future.

Sometimes the smart thing is sit tight.

I don't believe he is set to visit us on Tuesday, there is a guy on the ranch that started this BS rumor...said he heard it on the radio.

What's with the Schmitt crap, Deon Anderson will be the starting full back for the Cowboys in 2008... I wouldn't hold my breath about Randy Moss either, he's using Dallas and Philly as leverage pretty much, I'd rather try and trade for Larry Fitzgerald.

Is there a chance they could sign Moss and Cut Owens?

Not that I think this would happen, but Owens' contract is pretty much 3, 1 year deals.

If the cowboys cut him, they would save a TON this year.

Just throwing it out there. I would rather see both and I'm not sure which I would prefer over the other. Probably owens because he is here and he and Romo play well together.

Moss sure had a lot of touchdowns last season. But I still prefer Owens. I view him as a tougher, more versatile receiver. He is a beast across the middle. I don't think we would get the same kind of toughness outta Moss.
