Whether you call him a o tech, a nose tackle, a defensive lineman, a 1 tech, or a down lineman, it's not the position the Cowboys need, it's the player.

Aaron Donald is considered the best DT in the league, and he's well under 300 lbs. But he has POWER. Power is strength PLUS speed. A 280 lb person moving at 10 mph is just as powerful as a 330 lb person moving 8.5 mph.

Don't care if our DTs are 300 lbs or 350 lbs, if they can rush the passer and make run stops, that's who I want. But it ain't easy to find them. Problem is the Cowboys have never tried to find them, sure they get some guys who are well over 300 lbs, but they don't have the quickness and/or strength as well. Or they have the quickness like Irving, but aren't even close to 300 lbs, you do have to have some size, for durability and endurance if nothing else....

Well, if you want to be accurate you need to include we draft DEs that can’t run either.

Just about every run ply up the middle the DT either got doubled and got pushed 10 yards back or got pushed back 1v1 which frees up OL to reach 2nd level on LBs

you can have a nose guard in a 4-3. Often the 2 DTs play a 3-tech and a 1-tech, which isn’t too far from a 0-tech a NG or NT would be asked to do. And sometimes on passing downs they are in 1-tech even in a 3-4.
Only on this site have I seen people not understand that there's a NT in the 4-3.

Apparently from those who are watching the film, our problem isn’t 1T, it’s the 3T. Based off twitter accounts that have watched film Collins is playing absolutely awful in the running game

The issue is not having a NT to keep the 3 tech free

Yep. The DTs rolled with the blockers who continued rolling them allowing the green bay backs to make a single cut into the open gaps. And stunting the DL on running plays is ludicrous. I swear it was as if green Bay knew exactly which linemen were stunting on any given play.

Dude they weren’t stunting all the time, in most cases they were just getting manhandled 1v1.

Yeah, Collins is more of a quality rotational type. He was playing 1 tech previously, dude is prolly majorly confused at this point. He doesn't appear to consistently anchor well, which is why he's not good vs the run. Maybe if they picked a position and let him learn it?

Then answer a couple of questions.

I'll start with just one question.

Go to 2:02 of the video.

Look at DT #96 Collins and notice he is lined up in the middle between the hash marks.

Watch him, especially before the RB gets the handoff.

Why does Collins end up outside the right hash marks?
The problem is Marinelli's scheme and how he has our Dlinemen stunting, thus making it easier for the opposing Oline to push them out of the way, past the hash Mark's, thus creating big lanes to run through inside the hashes.

I know it's really too late, but if Jerry doesn't find someone who can run a better D, this season will end in yet another lusterless mess.

Agree.

They wasted Romos best years with those terrible defense.
But i ultimately blame romo. His fumbled snap against seattle caused parcells to quit. With parcells at HC and wade at DC we definitely have more success in the late 2000s
