I don’t really buy that. Talent and desire almost always shines through. Each player has a given responsibility on any play. The play of others around them (or lack thereof) doesn’t absolve them. And the tape doesn’t lie. The coaches can see it and break down performance tendencies. They probably looking for indicators that display an understanding of those responsibilities on the part of the player - and, maybe more importantly right now, the level of effort displayed by the player. You can teach understanding - I don’t know that you can teach effort so much.
I get what you are trying to say. I'm a...veteran.... :) guitar player. You don't have to play a gig or with others for me to know how good you are...I can hand you the guitar and and in seconds or a minute know.

But nfl football is a bit different. Not saying you can't bop in and excel....with a decent team.
But THIS one? I think even Irvin and Smith would have troubles.

Given the injuries to Zach and tyler........our 2 best players on the OL...... maybe the smart move would be to not start the statue at QB? Washington has a great DL. This could get ugly.

I can see your point to the extent that, for example, a coach may not be getting an accurate read on an ILBs instinct if he keeps getting washed out due to the poor interior DL play in front of him. But if the coaches have a larger body of plays to cull from -?they will generally get to the essence if the player. So, the coaches should busy themselves for the remainder of this season creating film on the lower 2/3RDs of the roster. Which will probably move you and I onto the subject of the lame-duck coaching staff and their source of motivation to do so.

Dallas should be giving PT to every player on the roster at this too-late stage. Gut check time for the younger guys - do any of them really want a career? Let’s SEE.
Everybody played in the Houston game except for Lance.

"A package" does absolutely nothing in terms of the Cowboys evaluating his actual ability to be a starting QB.

So of course that's the plan.
Lance is an impending free agent and Dak just signed a massive extension…Like it or not there is no evaluation for another starting QB.

It will be Dak and a new backup QB next season.

I don't think they'll start evaluating until they reach 9 losses. As long as they are not mathematically eliminated, the front office and coaches do not want to signal that they are giving up on the season. Frankly, I don't think it could get much worse. I mean, would it have mattered if we lost 48-3 to Houston instead of 34-10?
