Rush wasn't doing as bad as some think

Hopefully McCarthy won't hold the offense back as much next game.
hold it back? perhaps MM is right in holding back because Rush sucks and can't do half the stuff MM wants him to do. I mean he had one completion of 10 yards, being his longest.
if MM is holding offense back, there is a reason. Noodle Arm can't make most of the throws. he belongs to USFL at best. perhaps a back up in USFL would be more appropriate.

Yet CeeDee told us why.
He said the offense was limited.
That's on McCarthy.
offense was limited perhaps because Rush is not capable of running the full offense. I mean, when he struggles throwing the ball 10 yards down field, that takes away any deep attack.

I beg to differ. After all he was 5-1 as a starter before this last game.

Realistically your backup quarterback isn't expected to come in and lead a poor team to victory over a very good team. If he could do that, he'd be a starter somewhere else.

No, he's supposed to come in and be a bus driver, do enough to keep the rest of the team functioning somewhat close to as when the starter is in, let the stars do a bit more than usual to make up for the stater not being in there, the line calls change to keep the backup from having to make tight throws, etc.

And most of all your defense has to step up.

None of the 5above things happened.

He should have done better, but winning the game wasn't happening...
That record is more of a reflection on the team, rather than Rush. He was hot garbage in a couple starts two years ago and for some reason, that's the point everyone thinks is valid.
He has no arm.

he was not garbage, but he was below average with a very strong team around him. so it hid his garbageness.

the cowboys will never win anything with Jerry. Dak has been here 9 years. our futility of sucking in post season is 30 years and running. you put mahomes here and we fail in post season. you put mahomes on current team and we win one more game at most.
I disagree about the Mahomes thing (just look how Jayden Daniels transformed Wash)...but do agree with ur heaping blame on the wrinkly, saggy skinned, stooped over back of our senile scroogey owner

Review the games. As I posted, in a couple of starts, specifically vs. Philly he was absolutely terrible with 3 INTs. Vs. LA was a close second recording Zero TDs and 100 yards passing. Just because the team won, doesn't take away from his noodle arm. His yards per attempt are astoundingly below average and expectedly, the more games he played, the worse he got.

Except for CeeDee losing the ball in the sun, the Cowboys would have been leading at the end of the first half.
The Eagles got a turnover, but other than that Rush kept their offense forced to drive the length of the field to score.
It makes a difference, and our defense responded by holding the Eagles pretty well.
Rush did make the Cowboys a better team.
But, the momentum the Eagles gained at the end of the first half and beginning of the third quarter was too much to overcome with McCarthy continuing to be ultra conservative with the offense.
Guess you didn’t see the Mr. Noodle arm throws short , when WR beat the DBs

he was inept, but it was hidden from casual fans who look at final record and make declarations. was it Philly 45 yards bad? no, but he did have a game he threw for 76 yards and we won because defense gifted them 10 points. the Rush led offense was 22nd or worse in every offensive category. that's pretty bad. yeah, not 45 yards of passing bad, but that's bad.
Yep, exactly.
Bad, but not last Sunday bad.
That was my point.

It was more than shocking.
It’s going to take some real good performances the rest of the season for him to have any chance of returning as the backup next season. With Dak having a hamstring that could be a problem for him the rest of his career, we’re going to need a dependable backup that doesn’t need a great team for them to win a game.

As I said, when I see someone use "noodle arm" to describe a quarterback, I instantly know they don't know what a quarterback is.

I think with him having the surgery he will be fine going forward. The good news, if there can be such a thing with an injury such is this, is that the muscle will offer warning ahead of time before you do any serious damage. You will feel a little tug or some tightness which is the leg saying "slow down big fella!" and if you are smart enough to listen you won't reinjure it. I was usually smart enough to listen to mine and only hurt myself again when I tried to be macho and power through it. Now in competition that can be tricky. One time in my 30's I reaggravated mine in a flag football game chasing another player. But again, I shut it down the instant I felt that little tug and it only kept me out a week or two. That's what Dak is going to have to be smart enough to do going forward. The good news is he aint much of a runner anymore so the chances of his hurting himself on an open field run are slim to none. I do worry about him having to make throws from awkward positions while the line is struggling. Let's pray we get that fixed by next season. Richards did not embarrass himself on Sunday so there may be some hope that moving Guyton to RT and moving on from Steele could pay dividends for the future. I always like Richards but I get it, Guyton was a first round pick so he gets first dibs. But if Richards turns out to be the better player.. so be it. I certainly think he is a better player right now.

At his age I’m not so sure he’ll be fine going forward. This is a serious hamstring injury. Hamstrings can keep flaring up. Miles Austin had repeated hamstring issues and to my knowledge never had the serious hamstring injury Dak suffered. This injury could slow Dak up even more making him less mobile than he’s been. He’s still having issues with his ankle. Well just have to see how it goes.

Given the circumstances he came in under. I stand by what I posted. Did anyone expect some miracle comeback.
as that is what the Trey haters will base their Biased opinions on.
I appreciate your position.

Don't agree, but we're all (hopefully here) Cowboys fans...

actually there have been many backup QBs who have been really good and come in and lead the team to a win against a good team. one Jason Garrett comes to mind who beat GB on thanks giving. there are several others.
Yes, but like in Garrett's case, the team was very good, Rush had to come in and play with a dysfunctional team that was missing (still) it's main DE in Lawrence, one of their main CBs in Bland, having 2 rookies on the OL, missing their (supposedly, though he'd not been playing well) second WR in Cooks and having mediocre running backs (and that's being kind to Zeke).

Those "many backup QBs" that you mention were on very good teams, like Foles coming in for Wentz.

To expect Rush to play well in this game with this current team was looking at the game with rose colored glasses at best...

well, when he played a couple of years back, he was below average with all of those resources. he went 4-1 because the defense was just fantastic in that stretch.
so Sunday's performance is exactly what I expected. well, maybe a little worse than I expected.

FYI not everyone hates him. Why don’t you do me and everyone else who understands football a favor and just read posts instead of posting. By the way I’ll never have a new team but should go find one with a QB you don’t think sucks.
