I think it was more rhetoric than anything. He gave that statement a day before Defense Ministers/Secretaries from 40+ countries were going to meet at a US Air Force Base in Germany. He wasn't going to say the word "Nuclear".I think I see where the confusion lies. Over the years the term "World War III" has become synonymous with "Nuclear War". It's not necessarily the same thing however. The possibility of World War III was stated, not nuclear war.
That doesn't mean to say that he didn't mean to imply the risk of it, but clearly he stated World War III and not Nuclear War. All of these journalism sites are going by the assumption that World War III is the same thing as Nuclear War when it doesn't really mean that.
I don’t see a nuclear war happening. It’d just be mutual destruction. IMO…

Kinda like in those mob movies, where they tell a witness, it would be shame if there was an unfortunate accident.
I agree completely. Whenever NATO or the EU are showing solidarity, or their Ukraine war is going badly, Putin and his punks trot out the “Nuclear” word again like it’s the boogie man meant to show how tough and scary they are. Not only would it never happen and be mutual destruction - the Russian missiles are probably all connected to dead or stolen batteries.
I learn something new every day. Thank you for your service. I had no ideal that you had served.I remember when I was in Basic at Fort Bliss in El Paso.
That installation was for the 56th ada Air Defense and we would occasionally see soldiers from different countries training there.
Have to wonder if they will be getting an influx of Ukranian soldiers as of late.
I am shocked that Russia has not gained air supremacy. I feel like Putin has been totally shocked at the lack of success from his armed forces. I think that Putin has been misled by his generals about their capabilities. Putin is not the only one that is shocked. I have watched the Russian war games for the last few years and they were impressive to say the least. I guess the armed forces looks a lot better when nobody is shooting back.I didn’t advocate sending troops in, but instead enforce a no fly zone. Ukraine has proven they have the infantry to do the job by themselves on the ground. And keep sending them lots of weapons.
I came across this article that may explain some of the reasons why. It's a pretty interesting article about the Intelligence US is sharing with Ukraine, may also explain why so many Russian senior officers have been killed too. Here's a small bit from the article......I am shocked that Russia has not gained air supremacy. I feel like Putin has been totally shocked at the lack of success from his armed forces. "Putin will reportedly put hardline Security Council head and ex-FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev in power while he is dealing with surgery. Patrushev, 70, has played a big role in the Ukraine war thus far and convinced Putin that Kyiv is overrun by neo-*****, the Daily Mail reports."Russia’s Putin To Hand Over Keys To War While He Has Cancer Surgery

Nuclear saber-rattling is an unattractive habit, & Putin & his aides resort to it often. In 2008, they warned Poland that it would risk annihilation if it joined a U.S.sponsored missile defense program. (The Poles joined anyway.) In 2014, they warned that an attempt to push Russia out of Crimea, which they had grabbed from Ukraine, could trigger a nuclear response & so it goes on....Russia-Ukraine War LIVE: Russia warns of nuclear war
