Rotoworld.com is reporting that the Carolina Panthers had a private work out with Mallet and are considering selecting him first overall.

I hope so. Anything that can make it more likely to push Peterson down the board.

Just doing their homework, I don't think any sane GM would approve Mallett as #1 overall.

Probably looking at him for their second round pick....they could even trade up from the top of the second, back into the end of the 1st to get him.

They are probably interested him at the top of the second potentially.

If Ryan Mallett goes #1 overall it will be the funniest draft moment since Minnesota running out of time and getting passed over in 2003. What an epic waste of a pick that would be :laugh2:

Won't happen though, no NFL GM is that stupid

If they think he is the best QB in the draft and they want a QB than I say good for them for stepping up and getting their guy.

People bust on Mallett but it's not like he doesn't have all kinds of talent.

I will say as it gets closer to April 28th it's not going to seem as crazy as it does now. He's not going to last till the 2nd and your going to see him name tossed around in the 8-12 range anyways.

I agree with this. Mallett has tremendous physical talent. I don't know why he gets looked over. His resume is superior to all the other QBs in the draft. Would I chose him over Newton or Gabbert would depend on whether or not I thought he was the best fit for my system. Probably the most ready of all QBs to step in and start. With the likelihood of a rookie cap, it's not like you're going to be guaranteeing him 50 million. Worth a shot if he's the guy you like.

Maybe they're looking to get out of the pick and trade down? That #1 overall pick seems to be more desirable than in years past.

Also safer and cheaper because by the time your able to sign the kid it's likely a rookie pay scale will be in place.

I honestly don't see him getting by Miami.

I've always thought Mallett was the best QB prospect in the draft. I dont think any of the other QB's can even come close to his pure passing ability. And Mallett ran up huge stats in a prostyle offense, not some gimmick spread system with simple one or two man reads.

They are not that dumb when it comes to the draft.

Yeah I have to agree somewhat, although any team that drafts him better have a good offensive line. If they do, he could be a steal. It was thought that he would fail miserably at the wonderlic, but he still scored an around average for a QB of 26.

Sure he might be lifted occasionally lol......but he can chunk it with anyone. He did run a prostyle offense with good results, and most of the receivers who he was throwing to will go undrafted.
