Ryan Mallet at #1?

They're not going to take Ryan Mallet 1st overall. He's probably not going to be a first rounder.

They may trade out of the first overall pick and pick up someone's 2nd or something and then grab him then but he's probably not going in the 1st to anyone.

I think some teams look at his production, his size and arm strength as a safer option than Newton.

Awesome thrower, substance abuse issues, and a statue.

Have the substance abuse issues been substantiated? I don't think it's fair to compare him to a guy that was an alcoholic.

As for him being a statute, there are lots of successful QBs who don't run particularly well, some even the among the best in history (Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers). I wouldn't be too worried putting him behind our offensive line. I'll take a few sacks in exchange for his tremendous deep passing ability.

Smoke screen. Doubt a cheap skate like Jerry Richardson would be comfortable giving a knuckle head like Mallet number one money. Just dont see it.

Not only is he a statue but he doesnt make good decisions. Thats a real bad combo b/c when theres a rush he wont be able to make a quick smart decision or escape pressure. He is a sitting duck and if you dont give him a beautiful pocket hes a minus-9 or strip sack waiting to happen.

There are scenarios for him to succeed in the NFL. He needs great coaching and leadership around him, he needs to sit for a few years, and he needs a great lbne. The odds are it wont unfold that way for him but it can happen

The Jags can let him sit but the coaching part remains a question.

The Bills could let him set too but Gailey likes mobile QB's and is an unproven coach anyway

If Ryan Mallet didn't have all of these character issues he would go top 5. The guys got game.

The other players listen to him too. His weakness in his game is his lack of mobility.

Otherwise he has everything but great mobility game wise. It's his off the field stuff teams are worried about.

No way he go's #1 overall.

Whatever team gets this guy, if they can keep his head straight. Will have a good player.

At the QB position, that's your leader though. He's supposed to keep everyone else's head straight.

That's the problem here. It's not like he's a WR or corner. He's supposed to be the example for your football team.

It would be better for him if he doesn't go in the first round.

Doesn't make good decisions? Every time I watched him, he impressed me. That arm is no joke, he seemed to be able to move within the pocket to avoid the rush, and can read defenses. Does he take chances? Yeah, but so does most guys that are blessed with a cannon for an arm. Sure he had a couple of picks late in games, but I think you have to look at his play in it's entirety when determining his decision making. Romo's made some very bad decisions late in games that have cost us. If you put him with some talented wideouts, I think he can torch secondaries at the next level. He could have a Bledsoe type career. Obviously a good offensive line would go a long way, but sometimes it seems like a good QB can make his line look better. The Colts and Pats haven't been putting 5 studs across the o-line year after year.

His arm is so good that it gets to his head. He thinks he can just wing it around and it hurts him.

But like I said if you got him in the right situation and he actually did his homework then you might have something.

But you just throw him out there and from a mentally prepared perspective and a maturity perspective it would be a disaster. He would be calling out his WR's, questioning his OC, and he would have few supporters in the locker room. It would be a disaster if he started day 1.

Yeah, I'd feel sorry for Mallett having to play for that boob.

How often does he make bad decisions? He has something like 62 tds and 19 ints in two seasons as a starter, and thats against the best defensive talent in the country. His comp% went up dramatically from last year to this year.

I'd much prefer taking a guy like Mallett over any of these spread offense guys. He's been playing in an NFL style offense, making NFL reads and playing against alot of guys who will be playing on Sunday's.

He is the best QB out of the bunch.

Is he clean in the head? We don't know that.

He's got to lead your team.

It's best for him if he gets picked 3rd, 4th QB in this draft.

He leads on the field, that's for sure.

Also his performance gets worse by the quarter.

A lot of his throws get picked off in the NFL. He tries way too hard to squeeze balls in. This guy would have en epic failure of a rookie season if hes rushed him out there. He doesnt have the maturity or work ethic to learn and grasp a playbook nor the discipline to stick to a gameplan.

Never been impressed by Mallet. Anyone who has watched a few of his games can see why he is compared to Kerry Collins. The guy can throw. But its more important what is inside his head and that is why he is not seriously considered a top 10 pick by most scouts.

Lots of pressure up the middle he was dealing with on that play and everyone was covered. Even his check downs. Was not a good play on his part at all but a lot of good QB's without the mobility get duped on that one. I've seen Peyton Manning just last season get duped just like that.

Check this video and watch the throws he makes. The decisions and how it's all different types of throws. This guy is amazing at play action. All of this is against top teams.

Mallett has all the talent and is a very good QB. It's his personal issues that are killing him in this draft. Otherwise he's top 5 material.

The guy talks the same every interview I see him in. He's consistent in that regard and his demeanor is nothing like Kerry Collins. The kid does love playing. Does he like partying just as much. If not someone is going to get a very good QB.

I agree with this. Mallett has tremendous physical talent. I don't know why he gets looked over. His resume is superior to all the other QBs in the draft. Would I chose him over Newton or Gabbert would depend on whether or not I thought he was the best fit for my system. Probably the most ready of all QBs to step in and start. With the likelihood of a rookie cap, it's not like you're going to be guaranteeing him 50 million. Worth a shot if he's the guy you like.

Maybe they're looking to get out of the pick and trade down? That #1 overall pick seems to be more desirable than in years past.

Mallet = Derek Anderson

Big Strong Arm + Big Mouth and Bad attitude.
