I looked on Tony´s biography on wikipedia and I found this, and I didnt know bout:

"In the 2006 off-season, Sean Payton ( head coach of the New Orleans Saints), offered a third round draft pick for Romo, but Jerry Jones refused, asking for no less than a second round draft pick."

Didnt know that Payton wanted him there, and now I can tell that he should have given the second rounder for Tony´s services :p

I thought they offered a 2nd, but Dallas refused.

Not sure. Don't remember where I read it. Might be wrong.

That would have a lot of more sense... We then asked for a first rounder and for that time, Romo havent played a down, a first would have been a little too much.

Do you think people would be leaping off of bridges if we had gotten a first for Tony and he went on and had the same success he is having here in New Orleans?

And then use that 1st on Reggie Bush, with Bledsoe being our only option at QB?

No thanks.

Yep. This is old news that we tossed around last year. Sean Payton has an eye for talent and, lucky for us, Jerry's eyes isn't too bad at all.

Yeah Drew Brees sucks. And they had to give up way to many draft picks (ZERO) to get him.

I believe it was the Jets that offered a 2nd for Romo

These teams do a lot of homework during preseason and a few teams saw Romo's upside.

Actually Peyton did offer either a 2nd or 3rd for Tony before the 06 season started and before they signed Drew Brees. If I remember correctly, Peyton himself admitted that sometime earlier this year. I also heard/read the rumors that the Jets offered a first day pick for Romo near the end of trading deadline of 05.

I was reading some of the old archive threads this morning and one of them was a game thread for the Texans preseason game back in 2004. Even following the play by play in the game thread made me cringe. He was absolutely god awful and it was asked at least once in the thread what could Dallas possibly see in him. Thank goodness Sean Payton saw something though.

Whew.

He is worth 4 #1's and 3 #2's and 1 billion cash.

That is what the Vikings paid for Herschel Walker, adjusted for inflation of course.

If all we wanted was a 2nd for Romo then New Orleans should've pulled the trigger because we would be in big trouble right now without him.

Instead of a middle of the pack NFC team Romo has made us elite.

I know you already know that and everything but had they got Romo we would be screwed and not even really know how bad we got screwed.

Tony Romo, an undrafted free agent, is actually a down-grade from Drew Bledsoe, a Super Bowl QB and former number 1 overall pick in the draft.

Face it, your offensive line is 10 times better now then it was when Bledsoe was under center, particularly when Torrin Tucker and Petitti were in there.

Even Mark Rypien was able to win a Super Bowl when the offensive line only yielded 9 sacks the entire season.

So you mean that having Bledsoe this year we would have the same success that we have with Romo?...
Uh Well....

More success. Again, Bledsoe was a number 1 pick in the entire NFL draft. Romo is an undrafted free agent.

Because we all know draft status determines who is great and who isn't...

Tom Brady must suck.

On second thought, why am I feeding you?
