SABAN BLEW OFF HUIZENGA

Our pal Alex Marvez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports in a 10:34 a.m. EST item that former Fins coach Nick Saban failed to show for a Wednesday morning meeting with Miami coach Wayne Huizenga, and that Saban informed Huizenga by phone of his decision to depart the Dolphins for Alabama.

As we reported within the past hour, it is confirmed that Saban is on a plane for Tuscaloosa.

More details to come.

Like owners who say the coach’s job is not in jeopardy and then fire him the next day? Saban has as much credibility as anyone else in the NFL.

I disagree. He did the same thing when at LSU and Saban was pretty staunch in his denials just as recently as a week ago that he wasn't taking the Alabama job. While I agree with you that other NFL people including owners/coaches have lied or mislead the media about their future intentions, Saban has now taken it to a new level, IMO.

Meh... not shocked at all.... more times than not when there is MAJOR waffling about "coming back or not" when there is another tempting offer... they usually leave...

I dont get it though... coaching in NFL is what these guys dream of.. then because of little to average success they quit... he quit on the team... IMO...

Daunte was a mistake... and no not just in hindsight... the guy wasnt the same before the injury minus Moss...

Why wouldn't he deny it? They still had games left when he first denied it!! You want to try to squelch any distractions if at all possible.

What a d-bag.

"Wayne, just checking in....no....no, I won't be making our meeting for the deadline we set.....I thought it would be better if I just took the ten million you gave me for two years, and left you with a pathetic QB (who coincidentally has an outrageous, inescapable contract) and an aging team full of character problems. Goodbyes are so hard. Hugs and kisses, Wayne!"

I guess I'm biased, but I'd put the Cowboys higher in the pecking order than the Dolphins job, if BP leaves.

Their personnel is a mess, and the Boys have some good young talent and some offensive firepower.

But then again, I'd put the Cowboys as the best gig in the league.:)

Oh, I agree on that, although the Dolphins would be a good one, too. I meant more from a time perspective. Say we lose Saturday -- If Parcells goes up to or near that Feb. 9 deadline, that's over a month we'd be left in limbo while other teams pursue available coaches.

Listening to the PC via a friend's telephone, Huizenga basically said it is what is.

Huizenga said that the Fins are about winning. "They're REALLY about winning. No matter what it takes. No matter what it costs. We'll do whatever to win."

The analysts are talking like Huizenga is talking Steinbrenner...and reaching to try to link Cowher to the Fins.

Wow... Cowher in Miami... never thought about that one... I would imagine that the players talking about retirement would change their mind...

I agree you want to squelch distractions, especially while still in the playoff hunt. However, he could have just as easily said that he's not going to respond to any questions about Alabama and left it at that.

He did this same crap to LSU before taking the Miami job in the first place. Wayne H. should have seen this coming a mile away.

Saban...
