Sabbatical Year

I hear the raiders are making moves... and the chargers have a bright future. Maybe if those bandwagons are full, the Bengals would take a few more fans. Me, I'm gonna watch games. Not invest financially nor emotionally and just enjoy the game.

So JJ has decided to maintain the status quo with MM while allowing rumors to swirl about Payton— and retaining Quinn at DC, and Moore likely returns at OC.

The handwriting is on the wall for McCarthy. JJ has created a lame duck scenario for Mike… so this is just a wasted year of Dallas treading water.

We will lose some FAs this year due to the cap situation. We likely aren’t signing any FA that will make a difference. Moore and Dak will return with the same offense we have seen. Playing on a 1st place schedule—We will win 8-9 games. Mike will be fired. Quinn will be promoted to HC next year— or Payton will.

So what is the point of watching this year? JJ may be alright with wasting the talent on the roster— but doesn’t mean I’m gonna let him waste my time.

After the clown-show end to this season…. I may just shift into sabbatical mode. Watch a game here or there. Just don’t see them doing anything worth a damn in 2022. Might as well focus on other things for a bit.

Still enjoy this forum and chatting with you all… but this team is up Crap Creek so nothing to do but sit back and laugh at the train wreck JJ has created lol

Can't blame you. I even envy you.

I can't do the same. I've been a fan for so long that an alarm goes off in my head when the Cowboys are playing. I don't know how not to watch.

But something even worse is beginning to happen......It doesn't hurt as much when the Cowboys lose a big game. I'm getting accustomed to it.

I truly reside in the Cowboys realm of Hades.

Micah Parsons is a total stud and this D got way better last year for sure. But I think it still has a long way to go. Having all those TO’s last year masked some major deficiencies that were very evident in games where they didn’t have multiple TO’s.

When the Cowboys got behind early, teams could run on us pretty easily as evidenced by the niners game. Our best pass rusher last year was our stud rookie LB. Diggs made a ton of great int’s but he was also beaten like a drum too many times for big yardage.

I agree with you that the offense was terrible toward the end of the year and the defense was better. But both sides of the ball must get better to win 12 games next year. And that’s assuming we keep a few of the 21 Free Agents we are looking at and have an excellent draft. We’re facing a first place schedule next year so it will be more difficult to replicate what this team did this year.
I have some faith in this defense actually being a positive and improving.
Parsons is generational talent that you can build around, even with the possibility of losing some key players on D like Gregory, Lawrence, the 1yr contract DBs...
So we basically have some good youth on the DL, peeps can laugh all they want, but how long has everyone begged to address the DL and they kind of did with Gallimore and Osa.
Aaronn Donalds dont just fall of trees, and you get lucky when you draft a player like Parsons, like Donald.
Gallimore and Osa have the ability to solidify this interior DL with the right mentorship, and such a big part of Quinns retention, his ability to inspire and lead this young D.
Hill - can the light come on?
Watkins - Ive been lazy and havent checked his contract status yet
Bohanna* - If Quinn can elevate and motivate, here is an x factor.
DE is another story, going to see major transition here, and DEs that can rush the passer are luxuries and we are going to lose one or both.
Dont even know what the brain trust is planning on doing, extensions and guaranteed money, kick the can down the road, or just dive into the draft and grab edge/LBs and tell Quinn to call Parcells and talk about the 3-4.
Just give Quinn some athletes on defense and I bet he turns them into playmakers. We all knock Jerry for stupid decisions but he I will acknowledge when he makes a correct one, and retaining Quinn may be the 2nd best
thing next to McClay, as far as taking knowledge plus talent and actually applying it to benefit this franchise.
Give the bullets to the str8 shooters, if Im McClay, Im going to leverage all my available resources to a coordinator that actually use the tools he is given.
This defense might be what we hang our hats on for success the next few years.

Maybe it will light a fire under MM to stop being a horrible game and clock manager

I'm with you, and have said so before. This last game, when the Cowboys had the ball with time enough left to win, I was barely excited about it, guess I figured even if they pulled it out they'd just lose the next game 45-6 or such.

And I hate feeling that way, but it beats the heck out of getting all enthused only to be bitterly disappointed 1-3-5 games later, or in the playoffs. I'm too old for the up and down roller coaster of emotions, the old ticker just won't take it....

That is just part of it. Wait until winning doesn’t provide much joy to go along with losing not bringing much pain.

I was a bigger UNC basketball fan than I ever was a Cowboys fan. Couldn’t care less if they win or lose now. Didn’t even watch minute of their last 2 championship games (one win, one loss).

With the Cowboys I am at the point that I just really don’t care if they win or lose, just going to watch the game and see what happens. The result no longer bothers me one way or the other.

IMO, this might actually be the year that the fanbase stops falling for Jerry's propaganda. I know I have fallen for it. The team blatantly isn't as good as Jerry is trying to sell it as. This is not a contender. Him trying to sell the fanbase on super bowls just makes him look delusional.

I think at this point, the team is going to have to beat a few legit good teams before he wins some people back. Running up the score on crappy NFCE teams isn't going to do it anymore for many people.

If we dump Cooper or DLaw there’s no way to sell this team is a Super Bowl contender. So from that standpoint I’d agree don’t invest in meaningless regular season games.

NFL has become like the NBA. Any decent team will get in. Those that don’t should reboot anyway

Bringing back the same coaches = Same results.
