Sabbatical Year

Agree. Even if our D plays at the same level our offense needs to take a step forward. That's a big IF. If our D doesn't play at the same level, we're not even making the playoffs.
In our sorry division I believe we repeat

It’s a little early in the offseason for this type of thought to be taken seriously.

i still think mccarthy finishes his 5yrs.
we'll see.
another 6 win season tho and its over.

Even if we lose a fair amount of our "talented" players, barring losing Dak for an extended stretch, this team will probably be good enough to stumble to more 9-8 or 10-7 seasons, maybe some 8-9 seasons, and Jerry will tell us that "we're close" and he won't have to fire MM and pay him for nothing.

Not saying I expect mediocrity in the next few years, but that's been the Cowboys for most of the last 26 years, so...............

So JJ has decided to maintain the status quo with MM while allowing rumors to swirl about Payton— and retaining Quinn at DC, and Moore likely returns at OC.

The handwriting is on the wall for McCarthy. JJ has created a lame duck scenario for Mike… so this is just a wasted year of Dallas treading water.

We will lose some FAs this year due to the cap situation. We likely aren’t signing any FA that will make a difference. Moore and Dak will return with the same offense we have seen. Playing on a 1st place schedule—We will win 8-9 games. Mike will be fired. Quinn will be promoted to HC next year— or Payton will.

So what is the point of watching this year? JJ may be alright with wasting the talent on the roster— but doesn’t mean I’m gonna let him waste my time.

After the clown-show end to this season…. I may just shift into sabbatical mode. Watch a game here or there. Just don’t see them doing anything worth a damn in 2022. Might as well focus on other things for a bit.

Still enjoy this forum and chatting with you all… but this team is up Crap Creek so nothing to do but sit back and laugh at the train wreck JJ has created lol

That looks fake. Can Locomotives accelerate like that in a very short distance?

This time last year fans said the 2021 defense would doom the team...

Well whoever said MM wouldn't make mid season has about a 50-50 chance of being right, those kinds of "predictions" take no great amount of skill or study to make, I basically ignore them....

About right yeah...

While other teams surpass where we are to beat us.

How many times has SF broken it down and rebuilt since we did anything of consequence?

We are mediocre, except for the couple of years when the QB got hurt and excuses were obvious.

Blowing a one seed is mediocreville for anyone who is unclear there.

No, but they probably just increased the film speed, anyway a 100-plus ton locomotive doesn't need a lot of speed anyway to do lots of damage....

Sometimes, but didn't both GB and Buffalo blow the one seed this year? Don't think too many people think of them as mediocre teams, sometimes the other team just has a better day...

GB yes, Buffalo no, but theres a difference between being the one team that loses because someone has to lose, or being completely out-schemed and/or not ready to play.

I've gotten that impression from some of the better Dallas teams in the last 30 years.

Big time.

Agree with everything the OP said with the exception of his question, “why watch them”…… I agree that on paper that the prognosis is pretty bad, but hope and optimism is the one thing we have left.

We’ll watch the games and know pretty soon how good the team is and the one thing that should be entertaining is hopefully watching Quinn, Parsons, Diggs and the defense possibly grow into a dominant entity…..could be fun to watch those boys wreak havoc if they continue improving

The Cowboys had a solid season going 12-5 but I don't see them winning 12 games next year because of the schedule, however, 9 or 10 would be a solid season and that would most likely get them into the playoffs. Now if they can improve both the offense and defensive lines through the draft and FA then maybe they'll advance in the playoffs which would be a nice change around here.

Really? An 80 year old Jerruh Jones is willing to just throw a season away and wait until he's 81 to figure it out? Ok. Got it.
Yes. A 50-year old Jerry Jones believed he had it completely figured out after winning his first Super Bowl. His mindset (what some people call "an ego") has not changed and will never change if his 33 years in the NFL is any indication.

It is less about Jones figuring out how to get back to the Super Bowl before he can no longer be a general manager. Jones will keep on Jonesing to the very end. It is more about observers finally figuring out how he truly thinks.

Some people keep repeating the same mistake of putting themselves in Jones' shoes. The commonly held conception is that Jones is just another Joe with too much money and terribly stubborn. Surely, he will start thinking just like them 'someday'. Problem is, his shoe size never fits them. His narcissism wears a size 40. Kinda loose fitting for most folks.

Amen brother.

Yes, too many people try to make Jerry a "reasonable" person, which is what they are. The old "surely sooner or later Jerry will realize that he isn't a good gm and will hire one" or "if he really wanted to win another SB he'd hire a gm".

Neither is Jerry Jones. He really does think he's a great gm, and really does want to win another SB, but it has to be with him as gm, because if not it will forever be "well, Jimmy was the reason they won the 3 SBs in 4 years, Jimmy as coach 2 times and one with 'Jimmy's players/team".

And his ego, narcissism if you will, just won't permit that...

Dallas has been treading water for most of the last 25 years, so it really isn't anything new.

I'm too old for a sabbatical year, so I'll do what I've been doing - hope Jethro & Son prove they can actually win something. I learned years ago not to expect it.

Only an honest Poster will prefix this type of post with their Dallas Cowboys 2021 Season Record Prediction....

It only has about 2 train car lengths to accelerate. A 100 ton locomotive would be going slower than you walk in that distance...

We went from a losing season with no hope of playoffs to a 12 win season and runaway division champs, a vastly improved defense and the league's highest rated offense. We lost a playoff game to the same team that went into Green Bay and shut down the mighty Aarron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett/Matt LaFleur. We certainly regressed offensively in the second half of the season, but blowing it all up and starting over with a new head coach and OC is not a recipe for success.

There was a lot to like about our season and there's plenty not to like, but some of you act like the only possible outcome next year is failure. I choose to be optimistic and believe these coaches are not idiots and are capable of identifying and fixing our weaknesses. And I choose to believe that Will McClay and the front office will find enough new talent to take the next step and compete for the Super Bowl.
JJ loves you!
