I have another dog a lovable mutt that my folks found in the middle of nowhere New Mexico he is very well behaved and loves playing with the golden. After my other golden passed away he seemed more bummed out than I was he kept looking for her but now he once again has a play mate

I've always had boy dogs.
Two Beagles and a Cairn Terrier...they were all great dogs...especially the Cairn.
I had him the longest, 15 years and in line with this thread, I was there with him when we put him to sleep.
Awful day.
That outside of my mothers death...was the worst day of my life.
Here's to you Freeway!

Cajuncowboy;3282208 said:Very sorry to hear this. I know losing a family pet hurts. Friends of ours just had to put theirs to sleep because she was no longer able to go to the bathroom. She was in a lot of pain and now their daughter is almost inconsolable over it. She is 10 years old and it was older than her.
WV Cowboy;3282228 said:Thanks Cajun, .. that is sort of what happened with our dog Mac.
Long story short, one day two years ago he couldn't urinate. So he had surgery to remove bladder stones, with one lodged in the uretha. . The surgery was tough on a 12 yr old dog.
Over the past two years he slowed down a lot, lost most of his hearing, most of his sight, and was pretty grumpy most of the time. Which was unlike him.
Then this past Sunday he couldn't pee again, so we took him to the vet and they x-rayed and found more stones in the bladder and one in the uretha. They put in a catheter and flushed the stone back up into his bladder along with the other stones that showed up on the x-rays.
They said that might work for a day, a month or a year. The only alternative was to do surgery again, and we decided when we came home from the vet on Sunday not to put him through that again at 14 yrs old.
Wednesday morning he couldn't pee again, so we knew this was it.
It has been two days now, .. thank goodness I have to go to work because it is tough to be in the house without him. It is very hard for my wife because she was with him all day, every day, .. and now he in not there.
It is still hard but we are putting it into perspective and we are getting through it.
What I mean by perspective, we lost our dog of 14 yrs on Wednesday, .. but somebody lost their spouse on Wed, somebody lost their child on Wed.
Doesn't make our pain go away, but it could be worse.
Many in this thread have mentioned losing a pet, so you all know what I'm trying to say.
Thanks again.

Mac is at peace, and we will be just fine eventually.
Such is life; such is death.
My wife and I have made it through a lot during our 38 1/2 years together.
We have had 4 dogs during that time, ... O.J., Barker, BlackJack & Mac.
We will grieve appropriately together, and we will move on through this together.
Thanks CowboyMcCoy for your thoughts.

BTW, I never knew you were that old. LOL I don't mean that in a bad way.

He was there for basically everything we have done for 16 years.
Makes me cry just thinking about it now...I didn't go to work for two days...he was all I could think about...I thought I was going crazy.

Really hurts when you lose a pet.
A few years ago we lost our Pit named brandy that we had for about 14 years.
Tough enough on me but it was really hard on the wife.
We later got another pit who was the same color and in some ways does some really odd ball things that remind us of brandy.
