Good post. I've wondered about this also.

I really feel that Jones should be at CB. If Jones plays Safety, who is the 3rd CB? IMO, Jones could beat out Carr as the 2nd CB and is definitely better than any guys competing for the 3rd CB spot.

The Safety play might not have been great in 2014, but it was good enough and Wilcox will improve with more experience, better CB and LB play around him and a better pass rush.

The big question is whether or not Carr is on the team in 2015. That 8M salary is difficult to ignore, but they become really thin without him. If Carr did leave, then both Jones and White would likely be CBs for 2015.

I've reviewed about 120 snaps from White with the Saints. He had a lot of really good snaps, but would flake out on occasion and his failed plays seemed to be big and obvious. IMO, at worst case he is better than Sterling Moore.

3rd corner is Fields, the guy with 1st round talent remember? All kidding aside (and I like Fields fyi), the 3rd corner will be between Mo and Jones.

And if both Claiborne & Carr are unavailable, for whatever reason, then White is 3rd corner. Would love to upgrade FS but not with another project.

Corey White was terrible last year. That was the consensus on Saints forums, so I'll take the opinions of posters who saw him for 16 games.

However, there were also many posters who felt he should've been given a shot at Safety before releasing him. One thing he does well is tackle.

I hope our intention is to use him at Safety, because I don't wanna see White at CB. At all. I've read some posters here and on BTB claiming he'll be our slot CB. Stahp.

Corey White's 2015 season (Warning, may cause flashbacks to Jacques Reeves)

Watch that and tell me you'd be comfortable with him playing meaningful reps at corner.

The only way Jones plays safety is is he fails at corner or we are desperate because of injuries.

White isn't even a lock to make the game day roster.

So to answer the OP, no.

Somebody compiles all of his bad plays and that's the best (worst) they can come up with?Come on, all CBs get beat.

Some of those plays were not his fault including one where they drew circles to show his play. Some other plays were typical of scheme problems we saw when RR was in Dallas.

He had couple of missed tackles that bothered me more than any coverage issues.

I have access to this thing called coaches film and I've reviewed a significant number of his snaps. He has some ability.

If you recall Terence Newman struggled in RR's scheme but was rejuvinated in Mike Zimmer's scheme.

Basing anything on message board poster's opinions is meaningless unless you know that poster's post history.

Did they sign Fields?

I agree that some of those plays don't belong in a lowlight video. But he looked completely lost on several plays. And the timing of some of his errors couldn't have been worse.

Credibility is important if I were basing it off a single poster's opinion. But when an entire forum is all saying White blows, I'm going to give Saints fans the benefit of the doubt.

You'll see Patmon before White.

CZ was probably very happy when Newman was gone, but he was a decent player for Zimmer.

Dallas seems to be building its decision around Claiborne. If he can get healthy and play up to his ability (both big ifs), then it can shift Jones to safety. The problem with that strategy is if Jones proves he's better than Claiborne. If he does or Claiborne can stay healthy, Jones is needed at corner.

Then Carr definitely is the other part of the equation. If we progress through camp with a healthy Claiborne playing well and Jones playing at least on Carr's level, we could decide to save money by either trading or cutting Carr. I don't like that scenario because I see no reason to trust that Claiborne will stay healthy.

Neither of those scenarios would make it necessary to play White at corner (and I don't think we even consider cutting Carr is Claiborne isn't healthy), which is why I think it might be best to start him off at safety. We're thin at safety, but relatively stocked at corner. I can't say I've watched White's play at corner, but it wasn't good enough for New Orleans to keep him around as the third corner for a relatively low price (of course the same could be said about Sterling Moore for us).

At least we're in a position with him and Jones to be able to consider how to strengthen the whole secondary instead of just the corner spot.

And Bengals fans all told us how terrible Nate Livings was, but some people bought into the whole "Callahan handpicked him, he's a better scheme fit here" talk.

If you think White will improve due to coaching and a better pass rush that's fair, but based off his 2014 performance I don't want him sniffing the field at CB.

That's kind of how I feel about him. Maybe in this scheme he'll be a better corner than he was in New Orleans, but safety was where he was projected to play before NO drafted him and kept him at corner. A so-so corner can excel at safety if he's physical enough.

I wasn't very happy because I felt Newman was a better corner than he was given credit for being, but injuries made it impossible for Dallas to keep him at his salary. I thought he would have made an excellent third corner at that point in his career.

Livings was the 2nd best OL his 1st few games and then he got injured and was ever right after the injury.

White was claimed off waivers from NO, so I trust the coaches opinions.
Now this was before the draft, and many ? At the position at that point. So could been hedging their bets on FA, draft, and Mo's recovery. But they must like something about him.

Saints fans opinions as well as on here, nice to read and discuss. But I will go. With the coaches first at this point. And as said, let's see what happens in TC.

If he can play ST's and may push Heath for a roster spot, if they put him at S over CB.

This team loves there "project" safties.

When your highest draft player at that position is a mid 3rd rounder who is changing from his college position to play they and you don't want to invest a premium pick at that position what else is left?

If the plan is to use White at safety and be an "emergency" CB (and by emergency, I mean multiples injuries at CB), I like the move a lot.

His skillset should translate into a capable safety, which is why some Saints fans said they wish they would've kept him at that position.
Livings was the 2nd best OL his 1st few games and then he got injured and was ever right after the injury.
C'mon X, Livings being the 2nd best OL on that line is like being the 2nd smartest person in a room full of dummies. That was the year Free crapped the bed after signing a big contract, Ryan Cook/Phil Costa were starting at Center, and an underwhelming Bernadeau was the other starter at guard.

I doubt that Heath's spot is in jeopardy. We brought McCray back as a special teams guy, but he's not a better safety than Heath. I see us keeping 10 DBs, whether it's six corners and four safeties or five corners and five safeties likely depends on if either Jones or White ends up at safety.

My 10: Scandrick, Carr, Jones, Claiborne, Patmon, White, Church, Wilcox, Heath and McCray. If we don't decide to keep Carr because of financial concerns plus the play of Claiborne and Jones, then we might go with nine unless one of the young players steps up. That to me is also the only way Heath could end up getting cut, but McCray would probably be the first to go.

what are you talking about, thats the new trend, get rid of good players. Believe me, you missed the boat on this guy. I have it on good authority the guy is so good, the team just didnt see it. Nor anyone else.

Rob Ryan leaves his corners out to dry. TNEW looked pathetic here with ryan. Yet he's still in the league playing well. White can at least be Moores replacement. I hope. I'm just not going to write him off bc of what happened in New Orleans under ryan.

Sterling Moore was on the street, too. Nobody wanted him before dallas finally grabbed him midseason a couple years ago. Dig a little deeper fellas. Instead of relying on posters on a saints forum.
