So you don't think the rookie who kept the other rookie on the bench has any potential to get better, but the guy who was beaten out does?

Your logic is breathtaking to behold.

Actually, Wilcox was injured and had mental issues with his mom dying and the Cowboys were desperate, that is why they put a guy out there that had no business playing and boy did it show. Even in the limited time Wilcox played he looked way better than Heath. Are you seriously delusional enough to think Heath is better than Wilcox?

No. I think ultimately Wilcox will be a better player because he flashed the ability to be a better player. However, there were issues with his development, being out of control, out of position, etc., that caused him to not be a better starter last year and could cause him to not be a better starter this year for all we know.

I'm not going to just lay all of that at the feet of the death of his mom and injury. He was a rookie learning to be a pro, just like Heath was ... and Heath learned to understand the requirements of his position better than Wilcox did. If he can take his physical skills and apply better technique and Wilcox fails to grasp the mental aspect of the job, then Heath will turn out to be a better pro. But neither of those chapters has been written yet and I hope both of them have a happy ending.

No idea if Heath will even make the roster this year.

But he had no business being out there last year. Classic unready rookie thrown into the fire scenario.

In the past, I've posted a comparison of the measureables for all of the Safeties on the roster.

Overall, Heath's are the best.

The discussion of Heath is a good example of where fan logic goes off track. People are excited about Hamilton due to a couple of positive comments by Broaddus. Most of the same people hate Heath and want him cut. The coaches decided that Heath was a better option than Hamilton last season and Heath is bigger, stronger and faster. Hamilton had as many or more and bad plays per snap played as Heath. If Hamilton had started instead of Heath then fans would be anxiously awaiting Heath and hating Hamilton.

Better logic would be that either both suck or both have a chance to improve and contribute. Hamilton was originally and SEC player and should havee been ahead of Heath and Wilcox due to SEC coaching and experience. Hamilton only transferred to a small school due to grades.

I read the tea leaves. Wilcox, Johnson, and Hamilton all jumped Heath on the depth chart in OTAs. (At least Johnson did for the 2 seconds he was out there)

You will be wearing a Heath jersey by September.

lol....I might do that if he is the starter. Put your earlier statement as your signature man.. I want to see if it comes true. If Wilcox and Heath are both there when the season starts and Heath get the start over Wilcox, I will buy a Heath Jersey.

Heath will be fighting for a spot on the team this year. He could very well be cut.

I thought Heath did more than we could have expected. The kid has some decent size and nice speed to go along with it. Sure he got abused at times, but he seemed to be in position a lot of the time...he just didn't make a play on the ball. Hopefully this year he can do a little bit better. The kid has talent IMO.

going out on a limb here……i would guess that most here don't care what the name is on the back of the jersey or what college they came from or where (or if) they were drafted….they just want an above average to elite S out there consistently making big plays.
Heath, Dixon, Church, Johnson, Smith, Yoko Ono….no one cares as long as the S with the star on their helmet is intercepting or knocking down the ball when its near them.

Heath has one thing going for him that you can't teach from what I saw of him last year.
Speed.

And I don't mean just track speed but football speed.

Yeh he had that deer in the headlight look versus Calvin Johnson, but Heath was also the one who caught him from behind to save a TD.

If he improved himself by learning the position this off season, I think he has good chance of making the team.

I don't get how Will Allen gets cut for Heath?
Does Church die in this scenario?

I think there's potential with both Heath and Johnson, but I don't see either starting unless Wilcox proves incapable. I do think they can become capable backups.

I've never understood why fans get down on a small-school player whose thrown into the fire like Heath was. The fact that he didn't look totally lost should have us hoping that he develops instead of calling him and bum and trying to run him off.

I don't thing the typical fan is angry at Heath or the player but are more frustrated with the team "leadership" trotting out these sort of hopeful solutions. I know I'm not, I'd love for these guys to pan out just like Romo or Bill Bates.

You started an UDFA from a small school…that shows there is a large problem with talent evaluation. What did Will Allen do to not be a better player than Heath? Its total lack of depth and a larger plan for dealing with your roster. Been like this for years. Remember somebody thought Alan Ball was a real FS.

Yes, and it was one of the Vikings that came in and pushed them forward just enough for Peterson get into the endzone. Kind of a fluke play.

Peterson was all but carried into the endzone by one of his linemen - it drives me crazy listening to people talk about him like he NFL Blitz-style carried 5 guys hanging off of him into the endzone then threw them off into the stands. Give me a break.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Heath makes the team and is active on Sundays. He now has starting experience and can only improve. He led the team in special teams tackles and was fourth in passes defensed in six starts. Easy to convince me he isn't a starter, but no way he gets cut unless all the safeties on this team wake up from some mysterious walking coma to suddenly be head and shoulders above him on both defense and special teams.

I made a thread last year saying he was one of the, if not the worst player in football.

I stand by that.

Amen to that.
