Just curious as to why you think Hamilton didn't beat him out this pas year then?

For whatever reason Hamilton was just further behind in development. It was a mental thing not a physical one. Hamilton is a guy that could play as a slot cb because of his coverage skills. In OTAs Hamilton moved up to 2nd string when Johnson had more hammy issues. Heath was behind him.

I think it is a bit premature to know what we have at safety. Church is the elder in the group with 5 years the rest are entering their 2nd season or their rookie season.
How many seasons has Matt Johnson been on IR?

That would be two, this is his 3rd season. He's running out of time. This is likely his last chance.

Its hard not to wonder if if his skills and conditioning have eroded after two years of not playing........

This whole thread is a bit like deja vu. Reads like the Beasely thread last year except that most acknowledge Heath can play special teams. Personally, I will rely on the coaches ability to evaluate their talent more than an forum poster. The coaches believed that Heath was the best option as a starter last year so I think that says a lot about the other names thrown out in this thread. And all this, "he will be cut", or "he will be the starter" stuff is nothing more than preparation for "I told you so" later in the season. As if being right occasionally on an internet forum means you are a football guru that everyone else should recognize as genius. No thread searching to back this up, but my guess would be that the same guys who said, "'Beasley is a little bum" are the same guys that say "Heath is a bum." Negative posters are usually consistent.

No. Peterson ran him over

You haven't seen the replay have you?

Peterson was wrapped up going down Viking TE grabs Peterson by shoulder pads to help regain balance and then Peterson finishes it off.

It plainly shows it from the back angle you or UFC won't see on espn.

It's easy to pass premature judgment on someone who has been thrown to the wolves in the obvious manner that Heath was last year. Rather than insisting on a continuance of our judgments, perhaps it's more appropriate to wait and see what year two has to offer for this kid. Anyone who has been forced into action as prematurely as that kid should be afforded a chance to demonstrate what he's really capable of once he's had a chance to absorb and assimilate his responsibilities. Any rookie deserves a fair shot.

I believe he was on the roster much if his rookie year. If he was put on IR it was late in the season.

Edit: just looked it up he was on the Roster until November 17. Then put on IR.

Johnson injured his foot Aug 4 in a preseason game. Put on IR on Aug 31 last year.

His rookie year he struggled with hamstring and then had a back injury and more hamstring problems when they finally decided to IR him.

The move with Johson was inevitable as he been hobbled by a hamstring injury since training camp. The Cowboys held out hope that rookie fourth-round pick would be able to get healthy and contribute but the clock finally ran out on Johnson.

Last year wasn't his rookie year

I didn't realize you were talking about his rookie year at first. I thought it was widely known he was hurt the whole time and they kept hoping he would get well and get out on the field. This site has a lousy editing time limit. So I added the rookie season in the next post.

Saw that right after I posted my response. No worries.
