Because Awuzie can play safety, the need to take one goes down some for me.

It's possible our starting secondary could be CB Scandrick/Carroll, CB Brown/Carroll, S Chidobe Awusie, S Byron Jones, with Jourdan Lewis coming in on the nickel.

We currently have nine DBs we'll probably carry (Scandrick, Brown, Carroll, Lewis, Awusie, Jones, Heath, Blanton and Frazier) so I feel pretty good about the secondary options. It wouldn't hurt to add a 10th as I think it's likely we'll carry that number.

Both Blanton and Frazier are cuttable IMO.

They may use 4 CB's more then 3 Safeties as well

Think it will be Brown/Awuzie.

I think the Cowboys like Jeff Heath a lot more than people think. I don't think that they target safety unless a guy drops that has huge value. Could easily see an offensive lineman, TE or another DL prospect the rest of the way.

Yeah to me the Blanton signing meant the same thing to me at the S position as the Bell signing did to RT. Solid vet backups who can start if need be as insurance options to what we already have. They are going to go into the season with Heath at SS and Green at RT

I deduced the safety need was all but absent a week or so ago after we signed blanton.

Byron Jones and Jeff Heath are starters. Javon Frazier and Robert Blanton the back ups.
That's likely the 4 who make the team.
With Awuzie as the nickel type coming from the CB pool.

If Awuzie is a safety, they needed another DB in this draft.

Passing on King for Switzer was a mistake IMO.

Not a big deal..

Also, Heath deserves to start but we can find someone to be solid for us at almost anytime.

Upgradable, but not bad depth IMO. Both will see far more time on special teams than with the regular defense, although I'm glad to have picked up Blanton since he has some starting experience.

With the corners we've now got, I would definitely use the corners over the safeties. If Heath ends up as the starting safety, he and Jones would stay on the field in the nickel and dime, but I can't see the other safeties getting on the field ahead of Awusie and Lewis, assuming our top three corners at least to start the season will be Scandrick, Brown and Carroll.

Of course, it is always possibly one or both of the two new corners won't pan out and we'll be happy to have Blanton and Frazier on the field instead.
