If Awuzie is a safety, they needed another DB in this draft.

Passing on King for Switzer was a mistake IMO.
There must be something wrong with D.King. Many thought he would go in the 2nd and definitely before the end of the 3rd.

My ideal numbers for defense is 10 DL, 6 LB and 10 DB.

As things stand, I have 9 DBs making the cut.

CB (5) - Orlando Scandrick, Nolan Carroll, Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis

S(4) - Byron Jones, Jeff Heath, Kavon Frazier, Robert Blanton

I'd like to add another safety, someone who can push Blanton off the roster or make the team keep 5 safeties. I'm not against keeping 6 CBs, either, so I hope we're aggressive in undrafted free agency looking for guys who can fill that role or land on the Practice Squad.

Looks like we have the numbers fit now after taking Woods. I think with his addition we'll end up carrying 10 DBs rather than cutting Blanton, because Blanton is a good special teams player. It seems like right now we have the players to go 10, 6, 10 on defense unless someone unexpected pushes for a spot.

We also have enough versatility at DB or DL that if we had to go one short at some point this season it wouldn't kill us. We are better on defense right now than we were last season. It may take a while for the new bodies to mesh and completely understand the defense, but the talent level is better. If Lee and Jaylon stay healthy, this D is gonna be improved.

Well, we have the potential to be better. JJ Wilcox was a third-round pick and we got little overall out of that investment, so who knows how these guys will turn out? I'm excited to see, though.

I'm excited because every one of the DBs has better film than Wilcox did coming out.

That's what I was trying to say about Frazier.

Woods - drafted at #191 baby!!!!!!!

YES....and I could be crazy, but I think this kid will get a long look at CB. I wouldn't be so sure he's going to be a safety. His size is IDEAL for corner and coming out of Conf. USA he's covered WR's one on one and zone for years. They showed him on NFL Network and he can really cover. Can we actually hit on TWO DB's in the 6th round in the last two years? My gosh....

Because Awuzie can play safety, the need to take one goes down some for me.

It's possible our starting secondary could be CB Scandrick/Carroll, CB Brown/Carroll, S Chidobe Awusie, S Byron Jones, with Jourdan Lewis coming in on the nickel.

We currently have nine DBs we'll probably carry (Scandrick, Brown, Carroll, Lewis, Awusie, Jones, Heath, Blanton and Frazier) so I feel pretty good about the secondary options. It wouldn't hurt to add a 10th as I think it's likely we'll carry that number.
I think they will see how Heath does this year. Depending on his play, it'll determine whether a Cheeto is a safety in 2018 or not. I wouldn't mind keeping him at corner!
