Safety Roy Williams is better than advertised

Roy Williams is better than he is given credit for. Roy Williams has great hands for interceptions and he usually does something with the return when he makes the interception. He is an explosive hitter as well. Now does he have his deficiencies? Of course. His man to man coverage skills are below average. He weighs to much and as a result he can't always get to the runner and he resorts to horse collaring runners.
Personally I'd love to see him blitzing and playing linebacker in the nickle and dime defenses.

The problem is that Roy Willy doesn't do any of the things that you mentioned anymore, ie: make plays. If he did, the people on here wouldn't be complaining. We all know the players are not perfect. Those who have deficiencies in their play usually make it up by playing outstanding in another aspect. Roy use to be able to offset his bad coverage skills by stuffing the run, making hard hits, and intercepting the ball when it counts. Now his coverage skills are so bad that he can't even cover up the fact that he isn't any good.

I've been one of the biggest Roy defenders in the past, but the fact is he played pretty lousy last year. He is coasting at this point, and he needs to stop. He needs to lose about 12 to 15 pounds and spend more time in his playbook than his church.

My biggest problem with RW is that he has become the scarecrow - no heart. It really looks like he doesn't care and is just going through the motions. He is still the second best safety on the team behind Hamlin but we may be better off without him anyway.

I agree. It seems as though the mob mentality has taken over and ppl are piling on this thought that RW sucks when he clearly does not. What I'd like to know is what is it that RW does that makes him any more of a liablility than any other SS in the league?

I like I sure most Cowboy fans a few years Roy Williams used to be hands down my favorite player. The guy was at one point was a true impact player. For whatever the reason he career has fallen off a cliff and he simply put just isn't that good anymore. If he ever came back to play at his "old" form I would be the first guy to jump back on his bandwagon, but I just don't see it. I would love to be wrong for Roy's sake.
