Are you saying the 2009 Saints look better than the 2007 Patriots?

Adam Schefter answers readers' questions nearly every day in his blog. Monday, he's turning his attention to the MNF matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. Have a query of your own? Submit it right here.
Q: Do you think this year's Saints could be put on the same level as the 2007 Patriots, at least from the standpoint of sheer offensive dominance? Is it crazy to think they could run the table?
--Eric (Shreveport, La.)
A: As crazy as it sounds, Eric, it's not out of the question. So far, the Saints have scored an average of 39.7 points per game, which put them on pace to score an NFL single-season record 635 points, considerably more than the 589 that the Patriots scored in 2007. The other outstanding single-season marks are the 556 points the Vikings scored in 1998 and the 541 the Commanders scored in 1983. It'll be real tough for New Orleans to maintain that pace all season, but the Saints' offense is good, its schedule is soft and it cannot be dismissed, not with a quarterback as good as
Drew Brees.
