Yeah, I would never be nervous when John Carney was up to kick.

Man, I totally forgot about that game.

That was an amazing finish and he totally choked it.

Worst extra point miss ever.

He has missed 4 PAT's in the last 5 seasons, including a season-ender (literally). On top of that, he's 45 years old.

But yeah, we're slanting it.

Lame...

Why don't you post his career stats while you're at it? Then go ahead and measure that up against pretty much any kicker playing today. 45/55/65 yrs old.. whatever. The guy is nails from 40 or so in. I hope Shaun handles his business but it's still fun to entertain the thought. Carney or Suisham... either will do just fine.

he was injured, missed some time and the kid who replaced him was doing a great job, and has a much stronger leg.

Actually, Garrett Hartley, who won the starting gig last year and went 13 of 13, was suspended for the first four games of 2009 for taking a banned stimulant before a drive to mini camp. The Saints brought Carney in to fill for those four games, but Carney was doing so well that they let him keep playing while working with Hartley and Thomas Morestead, punter/kickoff specialist. They switched back to Hartley, who is the future, once the playoffs neared. Carney was cool with it as he knew this was how it would go all along.

That said, the timing was clearly intentional. The Saints kept him on the roster in an inactive role until they had already faced both Dallas and Washington, who had both been rumored to be shopping around.
